Now that he mentions it, it makes no sense. Warning: adult themes and language.

NeonCarrot "How the hell did you not find it funny?
It was on a topic most if not all people on here know about. Using witty not slap stick comedy.

Oops i think i found it the americans and non civilized alike found this not funny because of the lack of violence and people hurting them selves.

Loved the video and this comedian."

Americans do have witty comedy. Comedians have more than just the actual joke to think about. I find all the American comedians I have seen are very enthusiastic and do much better imitations than that guy did. The comedian kind of overworked a single part of some joke after it already had its laugh. If your ignorant assumption that the Americans didn`t find this funny, it`s probably because we actually know what funny is :-P. Pick up a Dane Cook cd. Clever, enthusiastic, non-repetitive (like some parts in this act), and just all around hilarious.

Maybe it means if you want to sit on a wall, make sure you are a cat and not an egg.

Isn`t "thumbs" a funny word?

The MORAL IS: Don`t hang out places that are dangerous or you might get it. Like use your brain sort of thing.

So... that actually made me laugh out loud...
it might be the lack of sleep, or the fact that I am giggly and my caffiene is wearing off...

or it might just be funny.

That was hilarious. And I never really thought about it, but he`s right, it`s never said that Humpty Dumpty was an egg...and yet, in every picture, he is an egg!

and I also have to admit that I had stopped watching halfway through, and hadn`t gotten to the part where RG mentioned that he only knows Humpty is an egg through pictorial evidence.

The cannon theory is a false etymology.

The original rhyme goes:

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall,
Threescore men and threescore more
Cannot place Humpty Dumpty as he was before.

This is an example of a nursery rhyme riddle, which were once very popular. One is supposed to figure out what Humpty Dumpty was. Answer: An egg.
(No horses either)

Thanks vikstar, appreciate the history. I usually like that guys comedy but this part was weak, it was like he forgot what came next so he repeated himself about 4 times.

Cy - ricky Gervais at no point says the nursery mentions that humpty dumpty is an egg. He does however say that he only knows this from pictorial evidence..
But still why would you send all the kings horses and men to fix a canon to a wall - there`s just no logic to it. Surely a crane would work better:)

i prefer lee evans but he does have a point, they dont say he`s an egg so how the hell did he become an egg?

yeah, this one isn`t very funny, it`s the `Politics` tour he does. His `Animals` tour is much better and funnier.

Yes, thanks for the story, Vikstar. Come to think of it, the nursery rhyme doesn`t say Humpty Dumpty was an egg at all (which makes RG`s routine kind of miss the point, but anyway); Lewis Carroll must be the source of that. Funny how that got so embedded into the way we think of the nursery rhyme that none of us even noticed that Humpty Dumpty is not about an egg. It`s not like that`s a very logical assumption.

I don`t think Ricky Gervais`s humor is all that unique. I was almost crying with laughter when he said: I`ve never worked out what the moral of Humpty Dumpty is. I could only think "Don`t sit on a wall if you`re an egg". Hilarious opener!

[quote]Humpty Dumpty was in fact an unusually large canon which was mounted on the protective wall of "St. Mary`s Wall Church" in Colchester, England. It was intended to protect the Parliamentarian stronghold of Colchester which was in the temporarily in control of the Royalists during the period of English history, described as the English Civil War ( 1642 - 1649). A shot from a Parliamentary canon succeeded in damaging the wall underneath Humpty Dumpty causing the canon to fall to the ground. The Royalists `all the King`s men` attempted to raise Humpty Dumpty on to another part of the wall but even with the help of ` all the King`s horses` failed in their task and Colchester fell to the Parliamentarians after a siege lasting eleven weeks.

Humpty Dumpty is a weird name for anything, nevermind an egg or a cannon.
Sure, I`ll say this is funny. "Don`t send ALL of them, it`ll be chaos!"
