It was all over the news here in Australia, its a young male and female. They were coincidently (sp?) found in Italy near Verona (romeo n Juliet) The male had a spear/spear wound in his back and the female in her side. The experts atm beleive he may have died in battle and she was sacrificed and buried with him. I like to see it as romantic! :)

It was two girls from a porno, trying to escape to become circis clowns. But tragity struck when an ariplane cracked into the earth and killed them, they were hugging eachother and probably ahving sex before they died...also, they were guys too.

Actually, these two were found in Verona, William Shakespeare`s setting for Romeo and Juliet. Obviously, they are not the two characters but, it makes you think.
Also, they were on the news and i am pretty sure that they are a little younger than 5,000 years old.

Couple dying of something else and placed in grave together?
Unlikely that they would die at the same time unless killed by humans or disease.

Illness?
They would need to die at the same time, which is quite possible, but why would others risk their own health putting them in a nice final resting position.

Killed by humans?
Unlikely that they would be placed together. Unlikely that they would both receive fatal wounds and be able to huddle up to each other.

Volcano?
The surrounding sediment appears to be fine and uniform and the fossils are both well preserved, which is consistent with the expected results of volcanic activity. Unlikely to be Vesuvius, as it would likely be mentioned as it is rather famous.

"5000-6000 years ago puts this smack in the middle of the italian renaissance. were there any cultural persecutions going on?"

I hope that you`re joking or don`t know the difference between 100 & 1000.

Most bones simply break down, however if they are covered by sediment then mineral rich ground water can fill empty spaces and deposit minerals, preserving/replacing the bones and occasionally soft tissues as well.

Dying of exposure is possible, but they:
A) Are in Italy, it doesn`t get that cold and even at that time it was heavily populated, so it is rather unlikely that the relatively mild storms could catch them off guard away from civilization.
B) Would be covered in snow, not sediment, making it extremely unlikely that they would be fossilized.
C) Would likely seek shelter under a tree or in a depression. They appear to be lying flat.

Sorry amonstrosity, I`m not usually the one to do this but...The Italian Renaissance began the opening phase of the Renaissance, a period of great cultural change and achievement in Europe that spanned the period from the end of the 14th century to about 1600, marking the transition between Medieval and Early Modern Europe... Meaning the Italian Renaissance was only about 5 hundred years ago not 5 thousand. But congrats on being in love. Those times are what make life seem worth living.

"Whens the last time you heard of someones last words, on a hospital bed being, "OH DEAR GOD IT HURTS AHHHH"."

If the person is hospitalized and about to die, they probably have a certain illness. Their senses won`t be functioning as well as they enter this near-death state. I don`t think screaming in pain is really an option.

Bones disintegrate after a while...
...ever heard of the dinosaurs? Their bones haven`t disintegrated. It`s all about conditions.

Let`s see, a young couple... if i were a young person in love (hey! i am!) how/why would i want us to die?
1. they didn`t decide to die because she was pregnant (there would have been a fetus skeleton too)
2. 5000-6000 years ago puts this smack in the middle of the italian renaissance. were there any cultural persecutions going on?

I don`t think this is really THAT old... I always assumed that bones would disintegrate after awhile... On the other hand I`m not a scientist, so who knows. The thing that really stood out to me is how the one on the left has his hand under the right ones chin.

"
Um, yeah.. cos the first thing on your mind if your in unimaginable pain and dying is to give the person next to you a hug? "

Who says they were in pain? Death isn`t painful unless your being burned alive or something. Whens the last time you heard of someones last words, on a hospital bed being, "OH DEAR GOD IT HURTS AHHHH". They could have froze to death, it could have been instant, or they could have just died of disease or something.

Looks like the man is on the left, and the woman on the right. It is kind of a romantic notion that we perceive these two in an intimate embrace. Pretty cool as far as anthropological significance is concerned, though.

Theory of Mind: We attribute our understanding of the world to the world. That is to say, because we have come to associate that position with love and romance we assume that they were in love or that the entire situation was somehow romantic. In fact, there is no way to truly know why they were like that, it could be accidental, it could be that they were placed there for some religious reason we don`t understand or they could have been in love. We simply cannot know why the skeletons are placed like that. Science tends to make things more depressing; a hell of a lot more interesting but definately more depressing.

I`d like to see a kid shouting "Look! A Simba!" Just so I could tell them that simba actually does mean lion in Swahili. Pumbaa means lazy though. So if the warthog was just laying around, the kid could technically be right, just with bad grammar.. or something. I should go to sleep.

Its sure cute, but maybe they was executed, maybe they just died out of disase... I guess im not in a romantic mood =P even with valentine comming soon ^^

For all we know, it could be a "commun tomb" where they bury 243608726 people together and those just appeared to fall that way.

I actually like the "cold" idea

And on a totally unrealated note...
Artgeek, Disney ruined all the classic... and all the animal kingdom as well... go to a zoo and look at the kids screaming "MOM MOM!! LOOK! A PUMBAA!!!!"

maybe they were cuddling when a meter hit, or scared cause someone was attacking them so they cuddled together. maybe they were sick and cold. who knows?

maybe its two guys from the future but there time machine crashed and thats how the seats are just really close together so thats how they came out but the time machine disintegrated in the heat of the crash but the future men were protected by the space suits made of a giant one celled organism thats all gooey but then those died and now all that is left is the bones of the people...
