What? The edges of the sign look pretty sharp to me.

And for those of you to stupid to realise, that was sarcasm.

I once saw a sign that said `This is a sign`. I laughed at it a lot. *NOTE* This didn`t actually happen.

When I went to Japan a few years ago I saw the sign on pretty much every escalator we went on... It also usually had a bunch of Japanese characters on it that we could not understand which we assumed proclaimed "Don`t hit your head on this sign!". I`ve been telling people about it for years, now maybe they will believe me.

i thought i saw Seattle mentioned somewhere... maybe this is in the U.S.
at least it`s creative

It`s in a mall in the Philippines. There is a link somewhere where a commenter seen a garbage can ontop of a walkway in Seattle or something like that.

I think someone stole the sign. :-P

for every body who wants to know there is a gap in between and little kid stick there head down there to look and they get decapitated thats why the sign was there and now they removed it and put it back up with just the plastic board read further to find stuff like this

after a child got severly injusred at a shopping mall in japan, getting his head caught between a floor and the escalator as he moved upwards almost every single escalator has had those installed. The place where the incident occured got really bad publicity etc. So yeah the sign isnt about the sign but about that if you look overwards you will hit that sign in prevention from getting your head stuck in something else.

I think it`s also to keep you from leaning over and hitting your head on the part where an up escalator meets a down ecalator. And most of these signs aren`t self-referential warnings anymore, just plastic triangles to keep you from leaning over.

I think its a joke, and if there really were dangers from people leaning over the sides, they could have put guard rails that made more sense.

Reminds me of the sign warning - sign ahead

The reason its there is because a) they cant put it down, so they put a warning for itself b) they need a certain amount of signs which have a real meaning according to building zone regulations part 8B

We actually have a sign on a dead-end street posted on a median about halfway down. It only says "Do not take this sign." It`s funny, though, knowing that part of town... no one has taken the sign. It`s been there for years. Wish I had a digital camera.

Haha, wtf. American culture allows stupidity to go unchecked? Did you visit every single place in the US, talked with every single citizen? Because you sure didn`t talk to me.

No one likes sweeping generalisations. :-P

Maybe it`s a sign in France, telling escalator users of the seriousness of the abuses of the French monarchy! The escalator finally meets the guillotine.

Haha... this was sorta funny... 3.. this is like putting a 4ft by 4ft by 4ft concret slab in the middle of a freeway with a sign warning drivers about itself..

Lol I`m over my anger issues now, The part where they were doing "party boy" in Japan really pushed my buttons. They do that kind of **** and then say "Why does everyone hate us?" Ugh... And I lived in America for awhile, You aren`t any stupider than the rest of the world, Just your culture allows for you to be a complete moron without consequence... </rant> Lol sorry...

Sorry for double post, but this was in the Phillipines... one of the tags was Manila.
Manila is the capital of the Philippines.
The Philipines are.. what, at least a few thousand miles from the United States.
You Europeans are probably closer to the eastern seaboard than we are to the Philipines.
so there.

and yeah, another funny idea for a sign woulda been one that said
"Keep all arms and legs and heads and limbs inside the escalator at all times, at the risk of your said limb being torn off."
But that mighta been too big.
Drat. (i actually said drat, it isn`t the word filter)
and on a side note, ironically, jacka$$ the movie is on my TV right now... it came on an hour or two ago, I was watching office space, and it... just finished.
I don`t care for it, and I wasn`t really watching it.. I just didn`t turn it off.
`sides, it helps erase all of the "What if I attached bottle rockets to my roller blades?" thoughts

@Deadman3215: The whole point of "Jacka$$: The Movie" was to be funny, it has nothing to do with the people in it being stupid, they just like living life in the moment. It isn`t only Americans who do this, the "Dudesons" for example, were around before the people on "Jacka$$," and they aren`t from America. They are from Finland.

god, please don`t let this become an anti american thread.
Deadman, we are less ignorant than you, that`s for sure.. *mumbles something about non-nice individuals*
Besides... we all need a lil diversity, even in the world of warning signs..

I`m American... and I can`t even watch "Jacka$$: The Movie" without getting pissed off. Ooh but what really grinds my gears is that there is an even worse sequel.

*cough* Right, back on topic of the sign. I loved it, we need more funny signs.

@Guest5386: Stay away from Americans and you`ll be safe. They`re ignorant and seem to think they speak the only language on Earth.

If anybody is curious about my obvious anger at Americans right now, Watch "Jacka**: The Movie" and try to not be pissed off at them. Retards.

Ya them Americans are crazy about their warning signs. Maybe they would be better off with a "Warning: Contents might make you a fata**." on every Happy Meal.

Maybe the world would be better off if in America there was a warning sign that said "Warning: This bridge is incomplete, Keep driving and have a nice day."

this is so ridiculous! But i love it ! Is that was in USA? Because i noticed that USA people are freak about their "warning sign" they are everywhere... i cant keep mysefl from noticing it...

what was the sentence again... Oh yeah!

"I have nothing against americans... but just remove all the warning symbols and lets the problem solve itsefl"

(this is a joke ^_- dont take it too seriously!)

*DISCLAIMER: after comments about my bad english, I now need to tell people its not my native language. Now you know I`m not a retard, just love to learn many languages ^^ Thank You ^^

^^^^^ guess its kind of a warning symbol inst it ?

That`s pretty funny. The only sign I`ve seen that I liked more was the "no left turn" sign at the very top of a mountain in Hawaii. (We were climbing the mountain at the time, so a left turn would have sent us plummeting several thousand feet.)

After clicking on a few links, I find that the sign is actually there to make sure people don`t lean over the rail of the escalator and get a limb/head caught between the wall and escalator side. So the sign refers to itself, but actually to say "Hey, look at this sign instead of leaning over the side and possibly getting maimed or killed."
