You don`t have to take "superhuman powers" literally, and that guy who thought he was God, doesn`t look like a very pleasant disorder. But that`s not the point. The point is that they are very interesting and unusual, some of them completely changing the way the people see the world.

Stop being so bloody literal and pedantic.

firstly, a "photographic memory" is a common symptom of savant syndrome.
Secondly i would not be envying these people yet because these conditions have mass negative effects.
for example the autistic savant in that video gets emotionally affected by numbers that means he can get distressed by the number 3.14163784969094 (pi with random 6s and 9s added to it)
people with PSAS suffer too because it is uncomfortable to be in that state and it is not a convenience to have an orgasm in the middle of a job interview.
also having any condition you don`t fit in and that itself can be torture, i know that because i am not the most neurotypical person in the world.

Did anybody else watch the YouTube video on savants and wonder if Dr. Simon Baron-Cohen is related to Sasha Baren-Cohen (Borat)?

Oh and the musical pitch thing. I can hit certain notes because I relate them to a visual.

I have synesthesia.I saw a dateline report on it once. Another thing about it is you see normally non-visual things as pictures. Like the way I view the months. It has nothing to do with color, but January is above my head, and December is at my feet. Or like this > JFMAMJJASND. [The months in order like that.]
Anyone else with this?

When I first saw this I was thinking it was going to be like "unbreakable" type stuff, but really all that is not as rare as some make it to be.

This is a really cool link. :-) Interesting stuff. I think I used to have synesthesia when I was younger but it seems to have faded away..:-( I can still remember what most of the colours were though, I had the letter = colour thing..

I`ve heard a lot of people with perfect pitch have related musical synesthesia with colors. I have perfect pitch, but don`t have the color correlation, but I know some that do.

Omg, I totally have the synesthesia or whatever, I really do assign genders and personalities to numbers, I thought everyone did it until I was like 12.

The diseases don`t give you `superhuman powers.` They are side affects, and most of them weren`t too great. Yeah, photographic memory, or dramatic bursts of creativity would be kind of cool but.. lame.

Sorry that *they`re* Divinity`s gift to humanity....when what they really are is probably no more than sneering, lecherous observers smearing and secreting their own negativity on and in everyone else without much to show for it but an increased abuse of language. "Reframing what people want and expect."

But the problem with people who can`t be bothered to believe in Divinity is that they usually continue believing that their Divinity`s gift to humanity. This article disturbed me. It would seem that these "scientists" were too jealous to concentrate on what was positive and share it....or possess it so that they could. So they end up selling bizarre diseases. I think Western medicine has succeeded in permanently degrading the race. Not that they`re completely ignorant or completely harmful, just that they`re proof positive that a little bit of wisdom is often worse than none.

I sort of have hypergraphia. It feels like I need to write something but all the words are blocked up in my mind and nothing comes. It`s a horrible/wonderful feeling.

On the bright side, my ACT writing/reading was a 36... XD

I read a book about a girl who had Synesthesia. It`s like having a cross in your senses, is how I think of it. She had the sound-color style, where, whatever sound there was, it had a color and shape to it. Like, people`s names and the sound of her cat meowing (she named him Mango, for that reason alone). It was interesting... kind of wish I had it.

Temporal Lobe Epilepsy looks incredible.

You can tell he`s not faking it when he`s talking about the joy he felt when he goes into those seizures. I can only imagine =/

Watching #5, the guy with temporal lobe epilepsy, made me so sad. His father mentioned you can see in his eyes a cry for help...his eyes look so empty, like they`re missing something. I can`t really explain, but I almost started crying. I hope that doctor can help him.

Apart from the first one, I don`t think they`re what I`d call `superhuman`. They have certain advantages, yes, but some of their disadvantages might counter that more.

As an interesting side note, the Professor Simon Baron Cohen mentioned in the video on savants is a first cousin of Sacha Baron Cohen, the comedian who plays Ali G and Borat.

One of my art teachers had Synesthesia. Of all the ones on the list, it seems to be the best choice for "superhuman power" without horrific side effects.
Although it I was going to die, doing it right after a dramatic burst of creative energy wouldn`t be such a bad thing I suppose.
