thank you so much for showing us that! i`m guessing the music wasn`t recorded yet, which is a shame, as i probably wouldn`t have seen it with the lame voiceover and strange sound effects. little did they know what effect it would have on society...

even though I wasn`t alive at the time, I can transpose what I seen to the day and time it was created for, and not compare it to today`s trailers.

All of you who say this was crap, I would give 50$ to to make a better trailer.. only using 1970`s technology, nothing, I mean NOTHING at all from today`s world.

George Lucas made a masterpiece from popsical sticks and super glue, I doubt any of you could do better, hell I KNOW none of you can do better.

That trailer was pure crap! It was so boring; I would never see the bloody movie with a trailer like that. It makes it boring and stupid.

this was fox, forcing the issue of release, i believe this was the second trailer, no music created just yet & James Earl Jones (uncredited) was not known as the voice of vader until the film was 1st shown, the follow on trailers were much more theatrical, Lucas had a helluva time releasing this movie on fox` shedule & in the 70`s buck rogers still held the gauntlet, so while dull this commercial showed some pretty promising effects

keep in mind main frame servers ran a 7Mhz or less & the internet was still owned by darpa/arpa in pre production of the film, so "most" of what you see is good old ingenuity

if your interested the trilogy dvd empire of dreams is worthy

What so many people here (mostly the 13-17 yr-olds) are forgetting to do is compare this trailer to the other movie trailers OF THE 70`S. If you compare it to trailers of today, no doubt it`s rather unimpressive (unless, of course, you`re a sci-fi fan to begin with). I enjoyed it, simply because I sometimes wondered what it would look like. And now I know. :-)

Man, I forgot about that. When I was a kid that totally hooked me. It was all I could think about (still too young for girls.) But I have to agree with an earlier comment, I don`t remember the voice over or that crap soundtrack. Strange.

Screw all the haters. Two words: Freakin` Awesome! Though, I do agree that the trailer would have been Way better if they had included the legendary Star Wars music.

Wow that was pretty sad. I don`t know anything about star wars and I don`t think I want to now... poo wait a minute... I recognized Hans Solo, Leia, Luke, Anakin/Darth Vader and the Millenium Falcon. I`m a loser. =(

I`m sure at the time period Star Wars was released that trailer was at the top of it`s game. Seriously, who could`ve turned down a space adventure with such great special effects as well as cool looking villains? Not me, but then again I wasn`t born in that time period :D

All of you "I could do better" Idiots, Let us see what you can do with Film and Miniture animation! PLEASE! What a bunch of tools!!

I watched SW four times that summer at the theatre. It is still the only movie I have ever "paid" to see that many times.

Greatest film of its time.

I was 15 when Star Wars came out. I remember at that time EVERY, damn, last, one of the science fiction movies released in years previous had been VERY super-serious social commentary (2001, Planet of the Apes, Clockwork Orange, Soylent Green and so forth)

So it`s not surprising the promoters did not use the right kind of feel for the trailer. The idea of the feel-good "popcorn" flick had been away for a while, but Star Wars helped bring it back.

I remember the trailer but not the pre-John Williams crappy soundtrack and voiceover.

I *do* remember watching it (as a kid) in a theater that summer and the opening orchestral crescendo taking my breath away.
