they are so right video games are absolutely terrible and kids learn violence is cool from them. i agree with them completely. its not like it teaches them right and wrong, fantasy and reality or gives them a place to vent; video games only encourage bad behavior.

here`s what i said to them

Are you really serious about this? You complain about the sexual and drug abuse and violence in these games. but there`s something called ESRB. The Entertainment Software Rating Board. They say what is included in the games. And they also say what age of children should be playing it. You complain but really you guys are the goddamn idiots that give their little 10 year old kids grand theft auto. These games are meant for entertainment purposes, and nothing more. No matter what you fools will do, there will be video games. and if you don`t like it, get your kids some lower rated games. think of it this way. you`re angry that your kids are awful but it`s because you`re terrible parents. nothing more. if you spent less time hitting your spouse, cheating on each other, drinking and chain smoking, we wouldn`t have this mishap. You bad parents are just looking for someone else to blame. Hey! I`ve got a great suggestion! You can teach your kids not to play video

Slaine, there are people who have died playing video games for 36 hours straight..

I dont think this website is about violence or anything, but personally i felt addicted to WoW. I played around 5 hours a day (+ work, + army reserves, + school) So it really took alot of time out of me. And i was only getting worse. The only thing that stopped me was that they banned me for cheating :P.

This site is a premptive joke to discredit anyone who would actally take up the cause.

They will either rally under the site and write to it where they will be ignored, but still feel the issue is being addressed, or they will either cite it and or make sister sites that in both cases will cause them to become laughing stalks.

Feel lucky this site exists if you hate it, it`s probably one of the number one reasons why a real one like it doesn`t exist.

Also while the effect as mentioned above is great, it was not originally intended, and was a college joke.

You are right Darkmartyr I did a project on this in psych class.

I found out that 47 out of the 50 non-video game playing teens show violence at home and/or school.

6 out of the 50 video game players show violence at school and/or home.

Personally I think that`s a big steamy load. As a 14 year old boy I find it refreshing to take out my frustrations on little pixels and what not, my mother dearest has no problem with it. It`s those crazy moms who try and shelter their children and they get paranoid. Well I`m not knocking anyone, I`m just stating my opinion...

Same goes for this a teen kills someone, they look in his room and find on his pc CS,doom3,HL2, quake3 and are like "well we now know the games!" lol what a load of BS!

This site is funny. In an article on video game addiction it says not to allow any electronics in your child`s room such as clock radios or calculators. I suppose they want kids to be late due to no alarm clock or not able to do their math homework.

I don`t really see the danger with letting a kid play a violent game. I played Duke Nukem when I was 8, and I turned out a pacifist. It`s all down to genes and parents, NOT video games. I laughed pretty hard though.

I think, all the "Mothers against..." groups should get together and form "Mothers against everything".

However, they say videogames make you agressive, because kids who play a lot of violent games are agressive?
I think, they fell for a logical fallacy called "The Texan Sharpshooter Fallacy", wich means, they see to events and just take it for cause and effect.
They are just ignoring, that it could be the other way around.
Agressive kids play a lot of violent games, because they just are agressive.
    Who is with me?

I agree that world of warcraft can be pretty adictive, and some people play ALOT , but theres ways to control it. i played lots, it drated up school and my sociallife and everything, but i believe thats because i have self control on level with a fish:p I dont see why the parents are whining over it though, when there is that thing called parental control where you can set a shedule to when your kid can be able to log on and not. And also, its not like they will play it forever. One day they will get sick of it and start to do something else, like i did. Those parents need to stop whining.

I have been playing violent games ever since I was able to play video games. Nothing wrong with me. I think any kid that does violent things after playing a video game has something mentally wrong with them and should be checked out. The parents are at total faught too. All games have ratings on them and tells you what is being done in the game. Stupid parents.

There may be some bias in the study, as some teenagers who are already violent just happen to choose violent video games. But the study does show that there is some concern.

It`s very true that violent games make people, or at least children, preteens and teens, more violent and aggressive. When my brother started playing them was more like to yell at me or hit me.

My psychology book had an interesting story on a study done with young children. Half of a group of children watched a video where adults were playing very aggressively with a blown up clown doll. They hit it, kicked it, sat on it, etc. All the children were placed into rooms with toys. Once all the toys except the clown doll were removed, the children who saw the video all played more aggresively with the clown. If children see violence, they`re just going to repeat it.

jvcc, I heard of that study as well (a bit of a dated study, no?), but it seems to me that that only applies to children. As in, small children who haven`t had any behavioral foundation yet. Playing extremely violent video games isn`t likely to make me more violent or aggressive now, but it may have been more likely when I was younger. Not that I play especially violent games; I see no value in them.

I think another factor is the intelligence, individuality, and gullibleness of the subject. If they are not aware enough to know that this kind of violence is only acceptable and encouraged in a video game, they`re going to see it as a window through which to solve their wordly problems. Self-control and self-awareness are probably the biggest factors.

Does anyone else notice that in the cutaway brain diagram of a violent gamer at the top of the page, the highlighted red area is shaped like an automatic gun? This page seems like a fake.

Yeah, I`m real sure that when you play violent video games your brain forms a gun-shaped area of violent activity...

Alleged violent brain on left side has gun-shaped area of activity. This proves this mothers against games is a bit fake. At least, IMO.

And moms, clue yourself in; a violent game has a visible Mature rating on the front, and has the violent descriptions on the back. If you can`t read the age level ratings, then you`re posing a strike against yourself here.

Kids who play hours at a time and are seemingly addicted, may not be. Many kids play games a lot aren`t doing it because they are addicted or violent, they just want to be the best and complete the objective the best way possible and get the most points.

There is controversy surrounding these games as they promote fast food, mischievous behavior, and sneaking and surprising.

*Just to start, I know I shouldn`t worry about this site. But I have seen arguements like this before (Minus the first one) and felt the need to fight back.*

Fact: Publishers exploit cute, huggable and lovable franchises such as Pokemon and Splinter Cell, in hopes of hooking more potential gamers in today`s youth. This is the same strategy practiced in the tobacco industry.

*Who says Splinter Cell is cute? This one just made me laugh*

Fact: Video games are proven to prevent proper development of social interactive skills which is needed for a happy enjoyable life. Gamers who pick up a controller very early in their lives are the most prone to life long burdens such as long term depression and sadness.

*Me and my brothers have been playing games since we first had the ability to process long term memory. We are socially fine. I have friends who play video games and they are socially fine. I know a psychiatrist who says games don`t effect social development!*

    ^^^^ Continued

    *Screw you anti-video gamers!!!*

Fact: Psychological studies have proven that, even the most casual teen gamers are affected by video games and suffer from low self esteem issues compared to their more athletic and social peers. The studies also revealed, younger gamers were more likely to become lifetime addicts and social outcasts.

*To assume is to... well you know the rest. Apparently casual gamers aren`t athletic. Therefore they have social problems. Also gamers are automatically social outcasts (Can you hear my sarcasm?). And What percent is "likely"? Because a majority of the people I`ve met played video games when they were little. They don`t today.*

    I win!!

I play tons of violent video games. I`m 14, and a GIRL. This is really stupid. How can violent video games affect the brain? IT CANT And now you have to be 18 or older to buy Mature rated games. I wonder who are buying these games, it`s the drating retarded mothers!
Can`t anyone see on the back of a video game the game rating.
How can you not see the Rating, it has M! For you slow moms going, I need to spoil my kids, since I want them to be popular, so I`m going to give them the bad games, with violent, sex, and gangs.

I play a lot of video games. And my parents know what I play. They don`t have a problem, since I`M NOT CHANGING.
I still go to school, play sports, and do well with my friends.

And you mothers are NEVER going to get rid of video games, so don`t even bother with this bullpoo.

Uhh... i know how you don`t get addicted
personally i`ve always hated it.. it seems like a pointless game, but then again, i`ve always hated RPGs, even after i took a 1 year long `liking` to Rune Scape when i was 10.
besides, any sane mother would probably want their child shooting pixelated mexican terrorists than shooting random birds and nieghborhood cats with a pellet gun
    Plus, think of the experience
i actually learned the actions in which to load, rooster, and ready guns in a few games, and when i fired an M1 Carbine and M1 Garand, i felt tons more safe
and, the day a nuclear bomb goes off in new york, mexican terrorists attack texas, zombies take over, and clone experiments go arye, and pentagon staff are assasinated I`ll know what to do

ppl are soooo drating stupid when it comes to stuff like this. if your not mentally sound enough to tell the difference between reality and fantasy and start acting like the characters in the games your playing, you shouldnt be gaming at all.

It just another stupid website that people make because they can`t compete with Blizzard and other big game companies. They just take the REAL facts and twist and/or bend it to influence other ignorant parents to stop buying games for their kids. Still some parents could have made this because they were stupid enough to not read the ratings and got their kid killed or at least made the kid skip school but I`m not just blaming this on parents but also on the 9 year old out there that is butchering the English language and also just not using their mind to think before, during, and after playing games.

Still the website is just stupid propaganda to tell parents that your child is stupid and violent due to video games.

"Slaine, there are people who have died playing video games for 36 hours straight.."

This is a personal hot button issue for me. It started when I discovered a little game called Mortal Kombat 3 when I was 6 years old. My dad and I would play that thing for hours trying to kill each other and it was hecka fun.

Since then I have played games like Halo, GTA, Max Payne, Gears of War, and other gore-fests. I turned out fine!

This crap is all sh*t perpetuated by the media to protect children, when really they don`t need a whole lot of protection. Cmon, no "big talk" (you know what I mean" until age 16???!!! That`s messed up. Kids are gonna grow up not knowing what condoms or birth control are.

    This is sh*t.

Sorry for posting again, but I figured I`d say something less stupid.

You can`t really get a video game that is really violent until you`re about 18, and your mind is much more able to absorb and learn things when you are much younger. When you can actually get this sh*t you`re too old to have your mind `programed` or whatever to think this violence is right. By the time you can get it you probably would know that this is entertainment, not a role model of how you should be. If your playing these games at ten or something that`s the fault of your parents (who are the ones complaining about this *gasp*).
