But can you imagine us lookin back on like the new iPhone sayings its gonna be crap and it could be a breakthrough too... you never know xx

btw, i noe there are lots of cheaper mp3 players which are just as good, some even better, than the ipod but i own an ipod coz i like it and im susceptible to trendy advertising lol. at least i admit it unlike the rest of u but yea its becoz apple created this really cool image of the ipod and did really well to market it to teens.

Spriggan666, wat u sed about ppl my age not knowing about technology before their 9th bday is complete bull. I`ve been using computers since i was 5 and before windows was being used by everyone. Yes, i used DOS when i was 5, and those of u who remember DOS would noe how hard it is to work and i was 5 when i was doing it and also playing my star wars games with my joystick :D. but anyways, i have been a techie since a young age and i even remember the first ever ipod which sucked coz it only worked on macs and macs back then sucks too.

Yeah what`s wrong with itunes. It does everything i need. I got an ipod just because i could. I don`t care of other products are cheaper, i wanted Ipod. Maybe you couldn`t afford ipod, that`s sad, but don`t bad mouth the people that can. That`s life.

I still think iPods are massively overrated and overpriced. I`ve never owned one and doubt I ever will.

Yeah! I totally agree. One of my friends got drunk and baked their ipod in the oven and bught a new one. What a waste of money.

"I still think iPods are massively overrated and overpriced. I`ve never owned one and doubt I ever will."

I own a Creative Zen, 5GB storage, only cost me $128. It records voice, plays radio, and (even though it seems rather useless) record radio, NONE of which the iPod do (unless you feel like buying extra accessories). It is fairly small for its size as well.

By comparison, a 2GB iPod Nano is $149, 4GB is $199.

Comparisons are a lot closer when you compare the iPods that can play video to the Creative counterparts. Of course, just like the iMac, the iPod only works with certain video files that it supports and is not very widely compatible.

So why does iPod cost more? Because it is trendy. No real human being uses iTunes, and no real human being would spend so much on a crappy iPhone (or iMac for that matter). Except maybe in the case of the iPhone, you are paying more for less, and in all cases paying too much.

Pathetic and a plauge to the internet. Go vist elderscrolls.com/forums and take a 5 minute look at the massive retards who are just like that.

I have a 20gig iRiver. It does all of the things that the iPod does, and more (remote control that clips to your shirt when you`re running, leather case, recording feature, etc.). I bought it brand new on Ebay for $170, vs the iPod which usually ended for $350. One of the main reasons why iPod has record sales is because iPods are pieces of poo. What else would be expected if you have to buy so many of them so often? They`re not durable, they bomb soon after their warranty`s up, the battery dies, they freeze, and anything else you can think of.
Congrats to all those who pay double for a label.

Correct me if I`m wrong but I believe a PDA is a "Personal Digital Assistant", pretty nifty things too. I fortunately didn`t become an isheep like 90% of ppl my age, I have used a mac at school several times, and I have fiddled with my sisters ipod, and I dont see what`s so great about them.

and of course we know what they are (or maybe it`s just me)

little arrogant kids are annoying too
people have and always are concerned with technology... i don`t get that part

and the only reason I mentioned the age thing to begin with was to show that almost everybody commenting on this post calling out how stupid people are for thinking the iPod was going to flop are in the generation that nearly refuse to believe that computers and technology existed before their 9th birthday and just because they have a laptop and play World of Warcraft that means they know everything about technology and...you know what, I`m just going to end this rant because it`s pissing me off and I hate it when little kids think they`re the poo and can`t realize that before iPods, people were actually concerned with real technology. One guy in this old Apple forum stated something like "now Mac, where is my PDA?" ...do you even know what a PDA is? Business people use them, they`re little computers that fit in your pocket, to state it simply. People back then would rather have had a Mac PDA than yet another mp3 player on the market. Learn some history first, freshmen,

i understand the age argument
thank god i`m not an iSheep like most of the people i know my age
HOWEVER
ipods really are pretty cool... i used to despise them, but after getting a nano a few months ago, i hafta say they`re nifty, and can play 3 or 4 different audio types
the nano is also pretty damned durable
my large complaints on ipods is that the larger one`s hard drives aren`t super durable and that they`re way too freaking pricy; but that`s apple for ya
and BTW, the iphone looks damn sweet, but unless they drop the price 250 dollars, i will get mad
and i wouldn`t mind them handing it over to other phone services as well, i have verizon and the only phone comparable to the iphone is the motorola Q, and it costs 200 bucks with a plan and rebates
and it doesn`t compare well at all to some of the smart phones cingular hosts

I had an Mp3, when Ipods came out, eventually it wasn`t enough for me(not enough songs, I love music) plus it crapped out on me. Then I did get an Ipod and I love it. I will admit most people are just buying the name. Hell, I fell for it.

Funny link none the less.

I`d rather save up for a house, but hey if you got the latest tunes from itunes onto your 4th (the other three broke) ipod then living on the streets might not be so bad. That is what I predict the future to be like. Lots of homeless people with ipods.

iPod does suck but its impossible to deny their amazing sales. They ARE one of the top mp3 players on the market and to Sarah, you might`ve owned a mp3 player before th iPod, but it was crap compared to it. The iPod has a lot of features that you cant find in others, especially those that came before it. The iPod set the standard for all of the other good mp3`s out there.

"If Apple does something like this again is going down."

Oh really? :-P

I just bought one of the new iPod shuffles (with my own money, I am not some spoiled rich kid), and I absolutely adore it. It`s so tiny and cute! :-)
And I love iTunes. I tried Napster for a little while a few years ago, but not only could my dad and I not figure out how to get music on the player I bought (then returned), it was REALLY slow. I`m just glad I finally got one.

Personally I think ipods are stupid anyway. I have an MP3 Player and a 2 gig SD card that cost me less than $40 for BOTH. I run my MP3s through 0 loss MP3 compression software and can put 500-1200 songs on it if I wanted. (which would be ridiculous)

Waste of money, they do sell well, but still a waste for what they do compared to what you pay.

(i pick on my friend Daniel, who has the original and a nano, all the time)

And I bet that all those people who posted there are listening to THEIR iPods right now. And their not terribly overpriced. They have tons of memory for their size, and you can use them for a lot more than just music....you can put movies, tv shows, audiobooks...and they cost about the same as going and buying the stuff at a regular store...I don`t know what I`d do without my iPod.

I hate iPods with a firey passion reserved for only the deepest circles of hell. Okay, maybe not that much, but I don`t understand why people STILL pay upwards of $300 ($500 if we want to include accessories) to listen to music when you could easily get a product that has the same amount of storage, does twice as much and comes with all its accessories for just as must dinero, maybe even less.

iPods are stats symbols. Nothing more.

Who knew that within 5 years, the phrase `mp3 player` would be substituted for `ipod`?

In my opinion I think ipods are terribly overrated, hugely overpriced for what they are and have just been marketed very cleverly. Personally, I`d much rather go for a Creative Zen.. I`ve had mine for 18months now and it`s not caused me an ounce of trouble.

And that`s not to mention what ipod has done to the way people see music nowadays. It`s not about listening to music you like. It`s about how many songs you can cram onto your ipod, whether you listen to them or not. Be honest.. who needs 10,000 songs stored on an ipod to accompany them a whole 10minute walk to work/school? You`ll only listen to 3, maybe 4 of them before you get there, and another 4 on the way home. Pointless.

Personally, I love Ipods. I am not sure I would use the word break through, but the phrase "top of the line" comes to mind. I paid WAY to much for my sixty gig Ipod Video, but the fact is, I use for hours a day, keep my hard drive clean by story thirty gigs of stuff on there, put whole discographies of my favorite artists on there, and even store my pictures and homework assignments. Yeah they are overpriced and have a bit of history busting after warranty is up, but if mine broke tomorrow, I would honestly buy another one. A lot more money, but money well spent.

Amen to that. Most ipods harddrives broke shortly after the warranty is up. To have Apple repair them it`s close to the price of buying a new one.

Oh man, that was funny. I seem to recall being interested in iPod because it came with iTunes -- the first really legal music download service. As I thought, iTunes would be the killer app, but I prematurely discounted the impact of the iPod on Apple`s bottom line. Also, I remember way back then the speculation that iPod was the first in a wave of portable media appliances. Oh how they were right!
