Wow. My dad has said for years that something happened down the line and the crown should have gone to the Duke of Hamilton a.k.a. our family. There was/ is going to be a program about it (I saw it advertized but didn`t take much notice of it) which mentioned the Duke of Hamilton in the advert. *Is intrigued*

I can only trace my family back to 1911, so I`m out of luck. lol
Seriously one side is Native American and had no birth certificates and the other side came here to escape the pograms in Russia, but they moved around so much before coming here and had their names changed at Ellis Island, so we can`t trace them back to a particular area.

I`m distantly related to the royals via an ancestor who was the bastard child of a Lord someone, who was a royal. A LOT of people would have to die for them to come looking for me though, lol.

kim, it doesn`t have to be English. The current line of succession only stays in England for like the first 30 people, then it goes to russia, bulgaria, norway, etc.

Same thing with me, Kaiser250. If enough people died, I could be queen.

Of course, if France still had a monarchy, I could claim there too... Charlemagne, I think (probably ddin`t spell it right).

I remember that thing with Tony Robinson..how interesting...

Anyway, I wonder how I`d go about such research anyway.

I have adoption in my family. It will be too hard for me to even bother trying to find out my heritage.

I have a distant claim on my mother`s side but nothing significant. Basically, 500,000 people die, and I`m king of England!

A person would have to show a genealogy recorded tracing back to 1066; their self/parents/ grand-parents/ggrand-parents/ and so on. Which is not easy if you have to start from scratch and work your way back. I`ve been working on mine for 10+ years; and so far I only gotten as far as 1612. If a family has kept records of their lineage it wouldn`t be too hard to go back that far.

how would one go about proving that they are the heir? and if you knew wouldn`t you already be in contact with them?

Not that it matters a whole lot, the Royal Family has just about zero political influence. If I recall right (though I could certainly be wrong), they can`t even vote.

This was already done a couple of years ago by Tony Robinson, he found an original bloodline in Australia, ie the bloodline that would be the current monarchy if various events hadnt happened or something.
