LaurensK90, what i find odd about the moon is that it is the same apparent size as the sun (with respect to the earth)... what are the odds of that?

Speaking of apparent size, another cool thing i found out just recently is that when the moon is low on the horizon it is the same apparent size as when it is high in the sky. It`s all our mind that makes it seem larger (has nothing to do with atmosphere or light or gravity or anything like that).

the wobbling of the earth is different than the moon

its called precession its like when you spin a top and the axis spins

there are accual noticeable differences that prove this point

like what a zodiac sign really means is what constellation the sun appears to be in during your birthday, but over the time since the zodiacs signs creation the precession of the earth has actually changed them about one or sometimes two signs off.

for example by the normal signs i am a gemini, but really im a taurus which is two constellations off in the rotation.

and as for the moon crashing into earth you would not die because of the moon hitting the earth the gravitational fields off both planets would rip all the humans animals and everything else on earth apart before it came anywhere close to the earth.

I do have to wonder if he left his telescope set up at the same precise spot or not. It might make a difference, however small or pointless it is to bring up. (This is after noting different sharpness values in the various pictures.) And following the link it stated that one of the photos was taken by someone else.. February.

I think it`s odd that it faces the same way all the time, too. Maybe half of it is heavier?? Ha. I have to wonder!

Do other planets` moons stay facing the same way? *will look it up when he`s got more time*

The moon will never fall to earth. Actually it is moving away from us, about 4 inches per year.

I think it`s an odd coincedence that the moon always has the same side towards the earth, more or less. This is nice, I like to watch the moon and stars too. :)

it`s not the moon that wobbles, it`s our perspective on the earth, although the moon does go in an elliptical orbit, making it come closer and farther. Relatively speaking (sry, bad pun), it is still wobbling from our perspective, but not from the sun.

The moon "wobbles" =S?
It doesn`t look as pretty when there are details.

some of those pictures are blurrier, some are sharper. anyways, if the moon falls on us, it`ll be fast. so don`t worry, you wont feel a thing. unless youre on the other side of earth, then there would be a giant earthquake and all the magma inside of earth is going to burn you ashes.

And wow, the "near side of the moon", or the side we don`t see, is really boring and ugly..

It`s weird, if I were watching any other circle wobble towards me I wouldn`t care, but since I`ve seen the moon and know how massive it is it`s all most scary. :D Very cool.

Now if it could just lean towards earth and it decides to come through our atmosphere for a visit. I`ve always wanted to say high to the man on the moon.

Yep, the earth wobbles just a bit too--but it`s not as pronounced as the moon`s wobble, and we of course don`t notice it.

Regarding the "dark side of the moon" (the side we don`t normally see)...there`s photos of it available on the web, taken by NASA probes. Try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Far_side_of... .

did you guys know that the earth and moon sort of revolve around each other. i can`t remember what it`s called (the wobble effect or something). most people think that the moon just revolves around the earth, but they are really affecting each other with the gravitational pull.

We always see that side of the moon - it`s the was it rotates/revolves, the same side always faces us. I wonder what the other side looks like.

I wouldn`t have expected that much size difference in the moon cycles though.

It`s odd to see it wobbling like that. I always thought it spun on a central axis, even if it was a bit tilted. I think, also, it`s interesting that we are basically seeing the same side of the moon each time it`s full.
