"media said Soundarajan almost certainly never had sex-change surgery." Almost Certainly never had? Sounds kind of strange.

i was reading that there are technically 4 genders, the hormones and chromosomes can be slightly alternating creating the 4 genders

malemale=all man hormones/anatomy
femalemale= male anatomy w/some female hormones
femalefemale=all female hormones/anatomy
malefemale=female anatomy w/some male hormones

sometimes it just ends there, other times you get that one guy that hangs out with all girls and you think is most certainly gay.
or that tomboy that is completely manly-- like my ex-girlfriend--that everyone thinks is a lesbian

so, apparently.. SHE never had a sex change from a HE to a SHE, but he*she* has too many y chromosomes, meaning SHE is a HE, but HE was born with SHE parts, so basically, she cant run in the mens, and he cant run in the womens.... sucks to be him...err her...

Why does the fact that she has an extra Y chromosome cancel out the fact that she was born with female genitalia and lived her life as a female?

At first I was thinking, well if it was a guy pretending to be a woman, he deserved to lose the medal. Reguardless of the feeling that he was transgender. If you have the parts for that gender, THAT is your gender unless you get a sex change. Now, after re-reading it and some of the comments, I am inclined to think it is unfair. If he/she was born with female parts and truly believed he/she was female and didn`t know about the chromosomal defect, then they totally deserved the medal. Shame on them for punishing him/her for not knowing on a cellular level what his/her gender really was.

hmm )-|, thats kinda weird. lol. That would suck to work so hard, and do well, and then be tested and find out you have a birth defect or whatever you want to call it. lol. I feel sorry for it.

That seems really unfair, that someone with Klinefelter`s or something along those lines should be penalized. I`m betting this runner is feeling very confused right now.

Also, did anyone else notice a deliberate lack of personal pronouns in that article?

I`m going to agree with this:

Men only have 1 Y chromosome. Usually anyway.

XX-Women
XY-Men

XXY= Klinefelter`s syndrome. Which is probably the case here. It`s obvious that she`s a woman (I assume) but she also has the presence of a Y chromosome.

---------

It`s a butch woman, with a geneic deseise.

Well I understand the rules and all but the award was already given so I think it`s personally unfair. and as to her being technically a guy... get over it world. transgendered ppl are everywhere. and apparently she`s not even that so...w/e

It`s completly fair..sadly in sports like that you need to roll with your gender...all it needed to do was look in a mirror.

You`d think the gender test would be taken BEFORE the competition, in order to avoid debacles like this.

She`s a MAN, man!!!

Well if the medal is for the women`s division, then I think its justified. You can`t win the women`s medal if you`re a man. However, it sounds like it was a birth-defect sort of thing and not the athlete`s fault. I doubt she/he purposefully tried to trick them.
