I`ve had this happen to me. But luckily i have long hair, so you couldnt see the zoot.
And the thing that makes This particular illegal drug worth while is that 1) Weed is less of a risk on your health than alcohol (i dont drink) And 2) If people were stoned in public areas, rather than drunk, how many fights on the street do you think you`d see?

Hehehe.. all this capacity of the american justice department to track down and apprehend all those criminals who carry around and smoke a ... plant. Yes, just a harmless plant with beautifull flowerbuds, put on this planet by God himself (if you actually believe that crap..) or just by mother nature, whatever you prefer. How can a government criminalise nature ?

Uhh.. kleinPB, if you don`t realize by now that alcohol is more dangerous than pot, hopefully you`ll come to your senses soon. How many people do you know that have died of a marijuana overdose? None. How many people die of alcohol poisoning a year? I don`t know, but it`s a much higher number than 0, I know that. Drinking alcohol regularly can turn you into an alcoholic, where on the other hand, marijuana is not addictive (and anyone who says otherwise is just plain naive). As far as the lung thing, smoking is more damaging to your lungs, and still legal. Besides the fact that they have had just as many studies finding that pot doesn`t actually damage your lungs at all.
All pot does is chill people out. I personally believe everything should be legal, but if not that, marijuana without a doubt should be.

Oh, kleinPB, just so you know, almost everyone I know that smokes pot regularly (or more than just to try it out) has their own bowl, so that would mean that most people don`t use joints. Unless the youngin`s today would rather go around trying to find papers all day long.
(And for the record, I`m drug-free- why compare pot to alcohol when you can just as easily avoid both)

....I`m going to assume by `bad psychic diseases` you meant psychological diseases. Then I`m going to ask for a link.

As far as I know know cannibus only has a CHANCE to lead to schizophrenia in SOME people who are already predisposed.

Tyrizzle: How can you determine one`s maturity or knowledge by his age? btw i am 17, maybe jerdboy is 18..is that a big difference? and if not..phh. it`s just dumb to rate somebody by his age..

B-Hazard: i`m sory that a didn`t pick the right word, i`m not a native speaker alright?

madcherries: you really want to tell me now that smoking pot isn`t addictive?? where have you heard that?

bonitalydia: afaik most people smoke their pot with tobacco even if they use bowls..so where is the difference?

i can`t believe it..i just say something against a drug and everbody begins to argue against me..do you really think there is no reason for marihuana being illegal? young kids read what you say and think "oh yeah, smoking pot is less dangerous than alcohol..and it isn`t addictive..cool that i could do that too"..thats just irresponsible and immature..

klienPB: What`s irrisponsible are the tons of ads on TV and elsewhere that try and tell you smoking pot will make you accidently kill people, or get really into shooting up heroin too.

Where have you heard that it IS addictive exactly? I know many upon many people who smoke pot, some smoke it daily, some smoke it weekly, some smoke it once a month or less, and none of them have had any problems when they need to quit to pass a drug test or when the scene is just dry for a while. Sure you can have a mental addiction to it if you`re really that addictive of a personality, but there are no physical withdrawals.

ON THE OTHER HAND: You know what is addictive? Caffeine, nicotine, OTC sleeping pills, Afrin nasal spray, there`s people out there who have a mental addiction to frickin cheeseburgers. Explain to me how marijuana is worse than this.

I think you really needd to do some research for yourself. It sounds like everything you `know` has come from anti-drug classes and tv commercials.

Smoking cannibus isn`t physically addictive, that`s a pretty widely known fact.

Most people don`t smoke their cannibus with tobacco, that`s more of a european thing. And it`s already been shown that cannibus itself does not promote lung cancer.

And smoking cannibus is far less dangerous than drinking. Maybe if you drink a beer to relax it won`t have much of an impact, but if you just take a couple hits to relax you`re barely doing any damage. The MOST physical harm that can come from smoking cannibus is the harm that the smoke does to the lungs, and you don`t have to smoke cannibus to use it. The MOST physical harm that can come from drinking is, what, liver failure or alcohol poisoning?

for sure many commercials are irresponsible and for sure other things are bad too...and i also complain about them..

and about this addictive thing: i know many people who smoke everyday and many of them had to stop it i.e. for getting their driving license back..and nearly nobody of them did it to just stop smoking for 2 weeks..and is see many people who perish (i hops it`s the right word) at marihuana..

and i dont say marihuana is sooo bad but i just dont like people playing it down because it just is not good. when somebody wants do do it, he sure can but not write arguments for it in the internet where young people can read it..because they dont knoe the risks..which are real big when you are about 14 years old...

See, you say you have friends who smoked it and had to quit but you don`t say they had any withdrawals, which is good because then you`d be wrong, but you also completely disproved your own point.

There`s already enough media about the "dangers" of marijuana. Infact I`m sure the ads have the opposite effect now since they`re all so exaggerated that anyone who knows the real story knows its all bull.
Teenagers do need to be taught the dangers of drugs, but they also need to be taught the truth. That if you`re going to consume a substance that intoxicates you in any way, marijuana is the safest route. What we`re failing to teach our youth is how to be safe about obtaining their recreational drugs, and how to be safe while using them. Instead we just lie to them about the dangers and hope for the best, but we get the worst instead.

Withdrawal symptoms are something people who are physically addicted to something experience.

People who are addicted to pain killer, meth, herion, crack, etc... and stop cold turkey go have a withdrawal which consists of uncontrolable shaking, cold sweats, dry heaves, sleepless nights, and whole lot of other bad stuff.

Obviously alcohol is worse, you can DIE from consuming too much alcohol, which cannot --let me repeat that-- cannot happen with marijuana. There have been many studies that showed you would have to consume an amount not even actually possible in order to overdose on it.

The symtoms of psychological withdrawals for marijuana that I`ve heard people say they`ve had were nothing more than irritability or headaches, and I would be very skeptical about that considering I have never experienced any of these symptoms, nor has anyone I know. I would write irritability off as just being sober instead of relaxed and stoned, it`s a different state of mind afterall.

Please, show me your study that shows marijuana causes psychological diseases. Like someone said earlier in the thread, it`s been shown to have a SLIGHT chance of increasing the chance of schizophrenia in people who are ALREADY predisposed to having it.

consuming a safe amount of marijuana would be no different than consuming a safe amount of alcohol.

Not trying to be an ass, but you have no idea what you`re talking about when you say marijuana causes psycological disease or the varibles of the experiments that said this.

I have a feeling you`ve never even looked into that matter and you just heard it from someone else.

If you`re predisposed to having schizoprenia I`m sure there are many things that could set it off. I wouldn`t avoid a good time because I have a slight chance of increasing the risk of said disease, you might as well never eat a cheeseburger, there`s a chance that might increase your risk of having a heart attack if you`re already predisposed to having a heart attack.

Uhh.. kleinPB, if you don`t realize by now that alcohol is more dangerous than pot, hopefully you`ll come to your senses soon.

I mostly agree except for your point that pot is not addictive. A joint contains 4 times the amount of nicotine as a normal cig. Nicotine is HIGHLY addictive.

psychological withdrawals would max out at migranes if anything. Can`t really compare that to physical withdrawal.

Not to mention the fact that psychological withdrawals are psychological. It`s all in your head and they are far from uncontrollable.

It`s not very dangerous though, that`s the problem. Kids going to parties and drinking is MUCH more dangerous. Some 15 year olds sitting around smoking a joint are almost positively not going to have physical or psychological problems from doing so. Kids are always going to experiment. If I had kids I`d much rather let them smoke pot then risk them going to a party, getting trashed, and getting themselves killed.

You know what, all I have to say about this whole argument going on here is if you have to feel the need to consume something for the purpose of altering your state of consciousness, whether it be alcohol or marijuana, you are a sad, sad person.

Just about all of the people I know who choose to smoke pot are the ones with 2.0 or less GPAs, wasting their teenage years away and throwing out any chance of getting into a good college.

uh, my gpa currently is a 3.5 and I smoke pot... Not all of us are losers, the key is not to goto work, school or try to study while high. It doesnt work while you are drunk either. And pot is a good thing, it`s sad that it was made illegal oh so many years ago and now they don`t want to just give it up. It would be perceived as giving in to drugs. And I dont think kids should smoke pot anyway, or anything for that matter, not till you are 18 and held legally responsible for your own actions.

Pot is not even remotely a bad thing if you don`t use it like an idiot.
For one it has such vast medicinal qualities it`s amazing. Any pain that I have, pot makes it go away, without addictive prescriptions or otc pain killers that mess up your liver.
My whole family has general anxiety disorders, I`ve had anxiety problems before as well but I always manage to avoid most of it just by smoking a bowl.
And completely disregarding the medicinal qualities, what exactly is wrong with using marijuana recreationally the same way people use alcohol? That`s the key, you`ve just got to be smart enough not to be high all the time when you have other things to do, just like most people are smart enough to not be drinking 24/7 just because they enjoy a couple drinks on the weekends.

I think you have marijuana mixed up with heroin...Two completely diffrent things. It`s people like you that say poo like this, and when kids eventually smoke marijuana, they`ll find out that the "addictive" and "deadly" things they have herd about weed are fake, and then they`ll think that everything about heroin or other hard drugs is wrong too so they`ll do them and get addicted and die.

For all you saying that pot has absolutely no addictive side effects, it`s not true. Many people use pot as an escape to their problems. After time they become dependent on it to numb the situation. Marijuana is also used as a gateway drug to many other, more addictive drugs. while ir`s side effects aren`t as dangerous as alcohol, it still doesn`t make it a good thing to do.

No one is trying to say it`s good (I saw one or two posts saying that and they were talking about the actually known benefits)

The main point is it`s not as bad as it`s made to look. Namely by people like you that make people that smoke marijuana look like the scum of the earth.

But that`s your preference. It really shouldn`t bother you that someone does something that not only doesn`t hurt them, but doesn`t hurt you either. But it does bother you and that probably won`t change.

If you aren`t going to bring something intelligent to the debate, just stay out of it.

It`s not PHYSICALLY addicting. I don`t know how many times that`s been said now.

and as far as the `gateway` theory goes...I really don`t even feel like getting into that. If you want me to, I will. But I bet I have just as many examples of people that haven`t moved on to stronger drugs as you do people that have.

Alrighty, I`m jumping into the debate. I don`t smoke tobacco or pot, because I have asthma. I do drink. I generally don`t hold marijuana smoking against people. I know people who have/do smoke pot who are becoming succesful in their careers, and I know people who have damned themselves to a lifetime as a McSlave. My personal observation is that there are far more of the latter then the former. Pot won`t ruin your life outright, but it can definitely be a factor.

One the one hand there are a few people who I hold in high regard who have used a lot of pot in the past, and on the other hand, just look at how retarded the star of this video is... marijuana has to be a factor in that. Food for thought chaps, and no flames thanks, whatever side you`re on I`ve spoken in your favour :D

It`s not so much the actual drugs that are harmful to you as the people you come in contact with to obtain that drug.
seriously, it`s a chain reaction and becomes a vicious cylcle.
If you start dealing yourself, then it escalates and escalates to the point where there`s no turning back, and you owe people money, and you`re neck is on the line.

    Drugs=bad.
    Cigarettes=bad.
    Alchohol=bad.
    Ice cream=good.

I think that that explains it perfectly. different people have different outcomes in their life after using drugs. For some, it`s bad. For some, it`s good. And for the others, it doesn`t make any impact. Although I would not advocate it in any way because I know more people who were effected by it in a bad way than anything else. But I guess it`s just how you play your cards. :-|

I`ve smoked pot on and off for years and I`ll tell you from experiance that it NEVER, EVER tempted me to do anything harder. I`ve smoked for months at a time then quit cold-turkey with no problems at all. Pot is NOT physically addicting. If you have what`s called an `addictive personality`, then your mind convinces you `omg I need this`. I`ve quit smoking pot for over a year now and you know what? I could go without ever smoking it again. But I do smoke cigarettes. I do drink sometimes socially, but I don`t care for it. Also, I quite like my liver, thank you. (more)

As for alcoholics (I know quite a few, that I wish I didn`t), they become physically and phycologically dependant on alcohol. The body and brain rewires itself to where they can`t function without alcohol in them. I don`t know about hard drug users, except that crap is made of chemicals... lots of chemicals... Ecstacy has freakin rat poison in it. Now if THAT doesn`t raise a red flag of warning to anyone who wants to take it, then all I gotta say is, I hope that side of the gene pool is chlorinated.

Go ahead and flame away, I don`t care. A lot of you have a good point. Young kids who keep being lied to about the `addictive` and `dangerous` effects of pot, the ONLY drug I`ve seen and heard mentioned in anti-drug commercials, there is a high chance they will think that the warnings we`ve given them about the harder drugs is a bunch of bull too. Luckily my mom decided to have a long talk with me about drugs and she told me truth about everything.

PimpMan420, if you think a shizophrenia exresses itself by killing other people..than in i think YOU should inform yourself a bit better before posting rubbish in here

B-Hazard, CANT YOU JUST UNDERSTAND THAT IT’S PSYCHOLOGICAL ADDICTING??? (psychological addicting=addicting okay???)

Inuneko, whats the bad thing about chemical drugs? It’s anything on this planet made by chemical connections?..just to let you think on: natural drugs are in most cases poisons to keep animals from that plants away..chemical drugs are made like they shold just affects where it should..so what is worse now?
And that ecstasy is made of rat poison is just rubbish…please inform yourself!

We never really got into the politics around cannibus. We were more talking about the myths and facts regarding its affect on the body.

And klein, marijuana is only psychologically additcting to people who are weak minded and truly believe they can`t operate with cannibus. It`s not that it is psychologically addicting, it`s that it CAN be psychologically addicting. And like I`ve said plenty of times before, even if someone was psychologically addicted to marijuana, they could still stop with virtually no repercussions other than what`s only in their mind.

Klein, I was being sarcastic in my first post. Also I wasn`t laughing at schitzophrenia itself, but your spelling of it.

If I wanted to, I could add into the debate myself; however i`ve wasted enough time doing that before on other sites. In the end, if someone is predisposed to a mental illness such as that, don`t you think that alcohol could just as easily bring it out as well?

Sorry klein, I didn`t mean to insult you; there are actually quite a few ways to spell the word that is understandable in english. I just found your original spelling humorous from a native english speaker`s point of view (shizophrenia I believe it was). No hard feelings, and I commend you on mastering a foreign language as well as you have (I wish I could do the same for other languages).

I actually know an old friend that became schitzophrenic during his teenage years who smoked marijuana and drank alcohol. Truthfully, in my opinion, I believe that the alcohol effected him more than the pot did... but i`m not going to argue about it :)

Sorry, I accidentally forgot to mention that the second site also discusses the medicinal uses and the `fact and fiction` of hemp. It`s on another part of the site, I just thought people would take the time to surf it. Also, I was trying to clear up for the other people who were implying that weed was made illegal because it`s `dangerous`.

Ok, so I may be wrong about what exactly is in ecstacy, but at least I can honestly say that I never have tried anything other than weed. Other than the fact that I know they`re very bad for you, I just never had the urge to do it.

Whatever the consequences on the body or the brain, it is plain stupid to criminalise a plant. I`m pretty sure smoking roses or eating waterlilies is not very healthy either, but no one ever gets arrested for carrying one of those around, or putting a rose joint behind your ears for that matter. And whether it`s American or European or Asian governments that persist in criminalising marijhuana is of no concern to me.

One more thing for those of you that claim that marijhuana is just a step to real drugs.. that is only the case BECAUSE it is criminalised. That way you can only buy it from a criminal who is very likely to have other controlled substances. If you can just go and buy it in a shop, like here in the Netherlands, you don`t have this problem.

The point I was trying to get across was that marijuana can be a fine thing used in moderation, and that people shouldn`t judge people who smoke it because we all have our bad habits, even the people who dont drink, smoke or smoke pot have something they do that can be harmful, such as chronic computer use, overeating, etc. We all have something that we like to do, even if it isn`t good for us, and because of that noone should be ripping on people just because they CHOOSE to smoke pot. You just have to be smart about it, and not do it too much.

PacoGrande is right about the dealers. 9 times out of 10, anyone you buy weed from will have harder substances on them and will try to push them off on you.

But the reason it was made illegal was because hemp is a very versatile plant. If used to its full potential (for making paper, clothes, etc.), it would put a lot of companies out of business and honestly, the rich people want to stay that way. Here`s an example of how devestating it would be to them.

Uses for hemp... other than smoking it:
Paper - One acre of hemp in ANNUAL rotation will produce as much pulp for paper as 4.1 acres of trees during the same 20 year period. Hemp can be grown and harvested once a year, unlike trees which take up to 50 or 100 years to grow back.

Clothing - strong and durable, produces three times as much fiber per acre as cotton. Cotton is grown on only 3% of the world`s farmland, it uses a devastating 26% of the world`s pesticides per year. Hemp requires no pesticides or herbicides to gro

eco-friendly- can be used as fuel, research is being done to use hemp in making a biodegradable plastic product.

medicine- can be used as a mild pain reliever, stress reducer, subdues nausia, induces hunger in cancer patients. There are select few who get weed legally while everyone else has to take pills where most the side effects are worse than the illness we`re suffering from.

Example: Nasal spray side effects (for decongestion)- Stinging, burning, sneezing, increased nasal discharge, drying of the nostrils, nosebleeds and altered taste may occur.
Yeah... I think I`ll suffer with the decongestion for a bit longer thank you.

Let`s see... all together that would put Logging companies out of business. It would put cotton farmers out of business. It would put the gas and oil companies out of business. Well, can`t say the medical field, but that`s still a pretty big chunk.

From one of the links I posted earlier, under `industrial uses`. Sorry to bring that up but eh *shr

    *shrug*

The info is under the second link I posted on the 6th page. There are links for medicinal, recreational, and industrial uses. I`m not posting them each individually, go find them yourself, it`s not that hard.

Also, I don`t see why this became a huge argument over alcohol vs weed. Pertaining to the vid, the guy thought he was pretty slick, but at least he was honest with the cop and he didn`t have to waste his and the station`s time to call in the drug dogs... don`t get me started on the dogs, it`s pretty cruel how they train them. But that`s a different story for another time.

In the US they`re not even using it for many industrial uses, if any. In many states (if not all) it is illegal to wear hemp clothing or accessories such as necklaces and you will be arrested for it... it`s freakin clothing! They do use it to a very limited medicinal use for glaucoma patients and some cancer patients who have special VIP access to get it legally, while everyone else has to deal with addictive pain meds.

ex. I was on lortabs for two months after emergency surgery last year, but that`s because I had a huge slash across my stomach that looked like someone tried to cut me open with a butterknife; the scar is still sore. I hated it, but it beat being in pain. My family was afraid I`d get addicted to the pills even though I really needed them at the time. When I had told my friends about the surgery and that I was on meds for the pain, a complete stranger, all strung out and shaking, actually ran up to me and begged me to give them my pills. It still gets a wtf.

-TO CLEAR UP THE WHOLE FACTS/MYTH THING -

Cannabis has two powerful active ingredient - THC and CBD (cannabidiol). Both substances are classed as cannabinoids - they produce psychoactive effects by binding with special receptors which are extraordinarily abundant all over the brain and body. Your brain makes its own cannabinoid - anandamide - which is thought to be involved in pain sensations, memory regulation and the immune system.

The ratio of these two substances determine the character and strength of the effect. Like fine wines, different strains of cannabis can have their own flavour and complexity, plus their own distinct high.

No, pot isnt physically addictive. Your body doesnt crave it.

Of course the affect is very addictive to your mind and you almost never "just do it once."

i would never do pot, why? no point in doing it...I dont have alot of stress or problems at home or at school.
