That so cool. It must have been really cold for all that water to freeze like that.
Even if it was frozen I don`t think I would have walked on it like the ppl in the photo were doing.

    Looks fake to me.

Global warming? I don`t want to start a 200+ post conversation about this but global warming has nothing to do with Niagra Falls freezing over.

    http://www.niagarafallslive.com/Facts_ab...

"The tremendous volume of water never stops flowing, However, the falling water and mist create ice formations along the banks of the falls and river. This can result in mounds of ice as thick as fifty feet. If the Winter is cold for
long enough, the ice will completely stretch across the river and form what is known as the "ice bridge"."

" Until 1912,visitors were allowed to actually walk out on the ice bridge and view the Falls from below."

In other words, the falls themselves didn`t freeze over, only the river, which still freezes over.

Global warming is a sham. Scientists use big words like "global warming denier" to prove it. (insert 200

    Ah, read a little further.

"The flow of water was stopped completely over both falls on March 29th 1848 due to an ice jam in the upper river for several hours. This is the only known time to have occurred." And, of course, they host the picture shown here.

Actually, Maelstrom, scientists use "facts" (such as the global temperature slowly increasing over the past few decades) to prove it. Global + temperature increase = global warming. This isn`t rocket surgery.

But of course, there are those who insist that the apalling amounts of pollution spewed into the atmosphere over the past century have nothing to do with climate change. It`s just a coincidence that Earth is getting hotter, that`s all. Nothing to worry about, and certainly no reason to cut back on the pollution; plenty of time for that once all the oil is gone.

about Global Warming, it`s just change that happens naturally, the climate never stays stable for that long.. and it isn`t human made
The magnetic fields shift as well, they expect that in a few hundred years the north pole will be in the mid atlantic... at least that`s what I think it was, that or the pacific.

i agree with maelstrom x. how could niagra possibly freeze over like that? and he does have a point...niagra`s river LEADING toward the falls freezes. the fall wouldn`t POSSIBLY freeze over like that because there is too much water flowing down to even be able to freeze. but im not sure because look what i found on googgllleee.....
    http://p.vtourist.com/763814-almost_froz...
and im not sure that this IS niagra falls. in the pic, the fall is HUMUNGUS and also is not frozen over. and this:
    http://sufface.net/photos/albums/SpringB...
    (not frozen)
also, (i got this from an article)
The Niagara River handles 212,000 cubic feet of water per second. The average depth is approximately 16 feet with a flow rate of 4 to 8 miles per hour. The Niagara River does not freeze over. The Falls of

and sorry, i spelled niagara wrong numerous times. i would have fixed it but my comment is too long. heres the rest of the article:
The Niagara River handles 212,000 cubic feet of water per second. The average depth is approximately 16 feet with a flow rate of 4 to 8 miles per hour. The Niagara River does not freeze over. The Falls of Niagara and the river below the Falls does not freeze either. The volume of water going over the Falls, the depth and speed of the water below the Falls also precludes freezing. The water will not be stopped or frozen solid.

The ice bridge however does form at the base of Falls and over portions of the Niagara River below the Falls. The ice bridge is formed in late December to the end of February and into mid March dependant on the weather.

and no, everybody. its not shopped. the water is not completely frozen. the person who posted this got it wrong. it didnt completely freeze. the water still was flowing underneath. if you want proof, go to google/images then type niagra falls frozen 1911. it should say on some of the websites. and yes, global warming could have an effect on the falls today and cause it to not freeze as much, but niagra falls has NEVER completely frozen. it is impossible because the water is flowing too fast for the particles to even begin to freeze. sure, the water would get cold. but no where NEAR as cold as it takes to freeze. thanks for your time for reading my posts, and sorry i took up huge space :p

How can the immense amounts of pullution we`re spewing into the air not have an affect on global temperature? That added with the increase in humans, who as we know breathe out CO2, and the decrease in plants that breathe out oxygen.

Seriously, how do we not affect the world wide temperature?

dont worry about global warming ppl.

if it does get bad, iceland will have melted tons of fresh water into the oceans, triggering a several hundred yar long ice age in as little time as 10 years. so it wont stay warm for too long.

Interesting pic, but I saw it before somewhere...

What I always found interesting was that, though there isn`t any snow on the ground where I`m at (Michigan, which is strange), the news wasn`t talking about the temperatures for December being the highest on the record..

In fact, with a little research, I got this:
Highest Temperature for the Month: 74 in 1982
For Indianapolis. Close enough to Michigan, I suppose. No snow for Christmas isn`t a new thing o_o

Unless I missed something, which is probably the case. I`m not denying global warming--but I`m skeptical of just about everything, and it happens to be on my list.

It`s global WARMING, not global FREEZING! The whole point is that in 1911 you could see the niagra falls freeze over due to the cold and water, like Maelstrom_x posted on the first page. Now you can`t see it freeze like this? I wouldn`t know, but I DO know that there isn`t anything we can do to prevent global warming. What do you expect us to do? Stop working, living in accomodations we`re used to, etc? Not possible.

Global Warming would have no effect.. It would have to be REALLY cold for that to happen, or some other things going on. If global warming would have effected that then we would probably have burned to death by now.

stupid, photoshop for sure, bobby leach went over niagra falls in a metal barrel in 1911
and for the people talking bout global warming the rise in heat does not prove global warming, global warming melts the ice and the more fresh water added to the salt water changes ocean currents which will eventually lower the climate at a slow rate, leading to the next ice age, so in other words a decrease in temperature across the world proves global warming

Maybe some of you should read up on Global Dimming, then read up on Global Warming, then look at all the major weather incidents in the past few years, and then tell me that it isn`t real.

I live in New Hampshire, and it`s the warmest winter I have ever seen. I can easily go without a coat, and believe me you, I hate the cold.

Yes, global dimming masks the effects of global warming, but it is caused by areosol paticles in the atmosphere. So how about the midieval warm period from about 800 A.D to 1250 A.D. Temperatures were so warm that the vikings settled greenland. And following that, the Little ice age of the 14th to 19th century, where it was documented that several well known rivers froze over for the first time, and it was so cold the vikings had to abandon Greenland because they couldn`t grow enough food for themselves. Explain that when there were no areosols and minimal pollution.

    Looks fake to me.
Global warming? I don`t want to start a 200+ post conversation about this but global warming has nothing to do with Niagra Falls freezing over.

"If the Winter is cold for long enough, the ice will completely stretch across the river and form what is known as the "ice bridge"."

You thick mean person, if the temperature changes i.e. warming or cooling of the globe occurs, then what happens in macro climates, in this case there will change too. Retard. Hurry up and die.

Watch "An Inconvenient Truth" by Al Gore. Right now it`s about twice as warm as the natural warming phases have been for the past 600,000 years. Here`s where it`s at now:

The lowest points are about a mile of ice over your head and the highest natural points are a nice day in New York. In the next 50 years, it will be about 6(?) times hotter than the normal warming.

Good to see IAB still serves as a haven of ignorance among the unaware. Trust personal opinions and politicians if yon wish, but I cater to science.

erm, i live right near niagara falls and there`s ice on the river like, all the time. during especially cold winters, the mist from the falls will actually coat everything nearby in a layer of ice that makes the entire area look like it`s made of mirrors or something. it`s breath-takingly beautiful and, most importantly, totally natural.

global warming might be fake, but that doesn`t prove that we`re polluting like hell.
