Crap- THAT would suck. Imagine getting offed by a freaking SQUID? Like that poor old guy who caught a stingray with his chest and rowed himself (and his grand-daughter)back to shore- to have open heart surgery....
Only, minus All that, plus the smashing and drowning.

Relax, Lord Savior, I`m not having a cow. Of course we knew they existed, I was aware of that. My point is that since we know so little about these creatures, wouldn`t tagging one make more sense so we can study them better?

You know what? The best giant squid was THE giant squid from Pirates of the Carribean. The Kraken. I would like to see those fishermen try to kill THAT.

Bwahahahahaha!

Giant Squid are Overrated, Colossal Squid are way better. They are Bigger and they Have Hundreds of Swiveling Hook like Teeth Things on their arms.

Xxayna, dont have a cow, we already knew they existed in the 1990`s -_-. AND we know there maximum size, way of hutning e.t.c. And to answer the first posters question, the biggest breed of squid is called the Collasal squid. Its a bit bigger than a sperm whale. (Which btw is there bot the giant, and collasal squids predator.

Makes me never want to leave shore again. *shiver*
That`s my worst fear. You don`t even know.
I was watching a T.V. show, on the Discovery Channel, I think, where they come up from the bottom of the Sea of Cortez and attack any boats anchored there.
Eep. ><

Japanese scientists have released what are believed to be the first pictures of a live giant squid, one of the most elusive creatures in the world.

PAH! We found on ehere in NZ ages ago! How come we didn`t credit for it! Just like when the dude down here flew a plane BEFORE the Wright bros, HOW COME WE NEVER GET ANY RECOGNITION, HMMMM?!?!

**** YOU BIGGER COUNTRIES!

^^^

It`s called a giant squid in relation to it`s smaller cousins. So it isn`t HUGE. Just bigger than a normal one.

Absolutely true. Americans just make it sound corny...because they`re all made of corn...
Well it works on the same principal.

So basically, they caught on of the rarest species of sea-creature and, in the quest for fame and possibly science, made the species a little rarer when it "died" during the process.
It didn`t die, the fishermen killed the f*cking thing.

Worst death imaginable, in my mind, is being plunged in a vat with one of these things. I get shudders just thinking about it.

Sorry to hear that, freddyferret. Send him a message.

I am never submitting a link here again. I submitted this a couple of days ago, then it suddenly appears as one of buddy`s ideas. Whatever. I know they change the captions whenever they want, now they take credit for links that other people send in.

It died because of the pressure, it has to remain at a certain pressure to survive. Also the Colossal squid is the biggest squid they have found yet, the giant is a close second. The Colossal squid is much nastier, it has hooks and barbs instead of razor sharp stickers, it tears its victims apart.

Yeah, GOOD LUCK trying to get a tag on a 24 foot squid that can crush a car with two tentacles.

Also, it would probably swim far too deep for them to catch it again, that`s why we never see alot of them.

Eee.. i don`t want to go swimming in a lake or ocean anymore. If that thing came up, i would have fainted, then died. If it was a little one, i would have swam away verrry quickly. Cause i would think it would attract a larger one. *shiver*

^^ Yeah, but it died during the struggle of them dragging it backwards though the sea and hauling it onto a boat. They could have tagged it with it still in the water.

I was expecting something bigger :(
A 60ft one would be cool to see though

they never killed it on purpose...if anyone at all read the article it said that it "died during the struggle" They never meant to kill it, thats just wat happened.

It says that the squid (plural?) move at fast speeds at travel together. Does that make them, like, Super Squid?

Japan now has control of giant squid techknology. We must act quickly and capture an even more-giant giant squid of our own.
