if the kid has problems she shoudl care to have them looked at professionally, not tossed in jail.

that is an example of a parent that does not deserve a child because of incompetance.

Ha she called the cops anyways, good one mom.
I say he got what he deserved...but seriously, she needs to learn how to deal with him w/out calling the police

And another example of parents not wanting to parent their children. She`d rather have the judical system discipline him.

Has anyone else noticed that, beyond the mother having a kid at 15, if these ages are correct, then either grandma or great-grandma (or both) had a kid at 13 or younger? I say that at least one of the following is true: (1) the story is mixed up on ages, (2) it`s a grandmother and NOT a great grandmother, or (3) the whole story is BS.

I am evil_noodle`s mom:... I dont care what you all think i am a mother of 2 and one step daughter so 3 kids and i would NEV ER call the cops on my kids bacause they was just being kids. I do firmly beleive that the mother and grandmother is the ones who really needs the help. If i knew this boy i would buy him 15 gifts just so he could be a kid and open them early!

Actually, the family is black, saw a news report about it. Not that it matters, a bad mother is a bad mother and a bad kid is a bad kid no matter the race.

im trying to be sterotypical or anything, but its a dead givaway that the family is hispanic.

1. the little whore had a chid at 15
2. the kids failing in school, and getting in trouble w/ authority
3. hispanic moms are usually unintelligent and think that calling the police solves evreything.

can you belive that our taxes go to keeping these dumb beaners alive?

Wow...that`s a bitchy mom.

Sure the kid should have been arrested for the other stuff.

But a CHRISTMAS PRESENT?

It would have been his anyways. And she totally broke his trust.
This is how I imagine the kids reactiion:
"Give me game or I`ll call the police"
"Fine, here"
*Calls Police*
WTF?

Has anyone noticed that;
1) The Mother says "He`s the type of kid who doesn`t believe anything until it happens."
But before that it says "After threat of calling the police, the boy apparently gave the toy back to his mother," Sonds to me he dose believe that`ll she do it,
2) Why did she put the present out this early?

3) Why is he getting a GBA? It says he "shoplifted, stolen money from her, punched a police officer and is nearing expulsion from school." That`s 4 reasons why he shouldn`t have a GBA.

4) Why dose she get help now? Surely stealing money, shoplifing punching a police offier and nearing expulsion from the school. Surely that`s worse than opening a present.

5) Why is this a big deal? Don`t think I need to explain this, Do I?

Ahem... *cough*

`I noticed it was said that the great-grandmother told him not to open his present. Also it wasn`t stated whether or not the great-grandmother lives with them. If she doesn`t, then it means the kid took the GBA from his great-grandma`s house when it was still technically her property.` -me

Made a little mistake, the article doesn`t go into detail on where they were when the kid took the gameboy. Just trying to see the logic in calling the cops and them not arresting the mom for wasting their time.

fair enough, punish the kid, that`s called for. but the kid`s 12, arresting him is hardly appropriate, if a family can`t deal with such a small incident and keep it inside the family i don`t honestly think them fit to raise children. Crowe

Her parents discipline her and punish her but it just doesn`t work and I believe she needs alot more than a `time out` in the corner, or being punished from tv or playing outside.

conduct reports (a calender that she usually puts a happyface sticker or numbers corresponding to any behavior problems). She had gotten like maybe three `good` days on her report and took the stickers off there to cover up the bad marks when her mom threatened to pull her from cheerleading. But by the time she caught it, she had already paid all kinds of money for the uniform and such and the school wouldn`t return it. Personally I still would have pulled her regardless if I had put up money or not. If I had kids, I wouldn`t let them get away with lying like that so they could get what they want.

*cough* Aside from that, my cousin and that boy, and kids like them should be evaluated to make sure nothing is seriously wrong other than just a plain old case of `hatred of authority`. But that`s ONLY if the parents have tried everything legally in their power to control the brats.

I noticed it was said that the great-grandmother told him not to open his present. Also it wasn`t stated whether or not the great-grandmother lives with them. If she doesn`t, then it means the kid took the GBA from his great-grandma`s house when it was still technically her property. Sure it was in a box with his name on it but it hadn`t been officially given to him. So that makes it theft.

Though it may not be his mom`s fault. My little cousin is bad, she always gets bad conduct marks in school `talking in class, playing in class, moving desk around, not following directions, disrupting behavior, playing in the lunchline, playing in the bathroom` and this is every day. Her parents discipline her and punish her but it just doesn`t work and I believe she needs alot more than a `time out` in the corner, or being punished from tv or playing outside. They have threatened to call the cops on her also. Oh. And because of her, the teacher stopped putting stickers on their monthly--

punishment, arresting the kids, or whatever, but it`s clear that this isn`t an isolated issue. And since this isn`t an isolated issue, I predict we`ll see more and more cases like this until it becomes commonplace. I hope I`m wrong, but I doubt it.

Anyway, I`m finished with my rant, and feel a whole lot better. :)

"the other versions of the story say the boy has ADD, so, eh."

I`m glad you brought that up. It seems today that if we can`t control our kids, we label them with some sort of disorder (the new one out there is oppositional defiant disorder, or in other words, your kid is a brat) and drug them till their zombies. I`m not saying that there aren`t times when a kid might need it, or that he may or may not have ADD. However, when we use it as a scapegoat to "correct" the problem or to justify why the child is acting that why in the first place, then there is a problem.

On a related note: I remember reading a case similar to this back in 2004. Instead of a 12 year old boy, it was a 6 year old girl. She was at school and the teacher and principal couldn`t control her, so they called the police and had her arrested. Both children displayed signs of total disrespect for authority and lack of self control. I don`t have any simple solution for this, whether it be corporal

*Sigh* .... ... .. . 1. A gameboy advance is fun, cheaper than the x-box and newer stuff, FUN and did I mention cheap?
2. Quit with the trailer trash stuff. I live in a trailer, I know people who live in trailers, and it`s cheap. Not alot of money to be had for some single mothers.
3. This boy is 12. Old enough to know the dif between right and wrong. If she can`t think of anything else short of smacking him (which people have made pretty much illegal btw), then call the police. Kinda extream but... She could always send him to a youth home
4. He would sooooo not be better off with the state. Look up the foster care system if THAT`S what you think.

That is all.....

What a waste of police time, even taking break would be a better use of their time then responding to a present opened too early. If I was that boys mother I would have taken the GBA back to the store and used the money to buy the kid (and maybe the whole family) some counselling for christmas; it would benefit him more than a GBA.

This kid shows obviouse signs of haveing ‘Affectionless Psychopathy’. Where the child has suffered deprivation (he must of had early and prolonged separation from his mother). I`m just psychology student but I can see the problems this child has and will continue to have. However deprivation can be reversed if something is done quickly, for his sake I hope it is soon.
Anyone interested in ‘Affectionless Psychopathy’ should check out ‘Bowlby’s 44 Thieves, 1944’.

then again, if she was 15/16 when she had him, she probably dropped out of highschool and therefore doesn`t have a high paying job. A GBA is alot of money when you`re supporting a kid by yourself on a low wage income.

Seems as though this family has problems. Given the kids history he shouldn`t be getting anything but clothes and books and boring crap you don`t want until you`re older anyway. This kids history is also the only reason that the cops came.

How old is the GameBoy Advance? Four no wait five years old? He`s lame. The police actually arrested him because the mom called. They`re lame.

I hate how some parents think they`re so helpless about they`re children. `I told him not to but he did it! I have such problems with him! What should I do?!` Hey, how about you STOP BEING A PUSSY WHIPPED BITCH AND STOMP YOUR LITTLE poo THE drat OUT.

As a criminal justice major I am all for the lesson he was supposidly taught, but at his age all it really is going to do is fuel the fire, specially with the background and such.

Arg, If was to be called to that house I would be like "Lady, now look it is HIS. In less then 20 days he would have opened it anyway. If we were called to EVERY house that a child opened a present early, we would have no time to actually fight real problems. I am not saying your son isn`t a problem, no, he defintly is going down the wrong tracks, but that isn`t his fault. Take a look around your house and tell me what he is surrounded by. Most criminals are born from nuture over nature."

Arg, the waste of time there, annoys me to death. We need a life counseler in the houe please!!!

For an adolescent child, one of the strongest motivations is to live up to his/her parent`s expectations. It is the parent`s responsibility to let the child know if that is being achieved. It seems to me that this boy doesn`t know whether what he does is right or wrong. Dysfunctionality in families is becoming more common and has gotten to the point that if your family is not dysfunctional, they are not "normal". I`m not a psychologist nor a social worker, but I think the whole family should get counciling.

The article doesn`t say if the present was under the tree or not. If it was under the tree, it seems kind of cruel on the mother`s part to tell her son that there`s a Gameboy under the tree for him, but he can`t have it until Chriatmas. In that case, I can hardly blame a 12 year old kid for not being able to contain himself. If the present was not under the tree, but put away in a closet or some other place until Christmas and the boy searched the house for it, that would be a little more serious, but not criminal. In either case, calling the police and having him arrested was not an appropriate reaction. The boy did return the Gameboy and at that point, it should have been re-wrapped and maybe taken to a friend`s house (I`m assuming she has friends) for safe keeping.

Kids like that need a wake-up call at some point in their life before they get any worse. Better now than to really be arrested later on for something worse.

Wait lets get this straight, the kid has shoplifted, stolen money from her and hit a police officer, and she waits untill he opens a christmas preasent early before she calls the police? I strongly believe people should have to pass a test and get a licences before they get children, that way there would be alot less bad parents around.

My observation here would be 12 year old kid, 27 year old mum, hence 15 year old mother. Probably some kind of family history given great grandmother at 63 years old.

These types of family are more likley to be the single parent, welfare, struggling to survive, never learn parenting skills kind that just keep repeating themslves. The family needs help probably as much as this kid I imagine, just hope its not too late.

This is one of the biggest injustices i have ever seen

Sure, the kid deserved to be punished. But calling the police??????? That violates the 8th amendment: cruel and unusual punishment.

The mother and the grandmother should both be arrested for this.

It`s not like he murdered or assulted someone with a knife......the only thing he did wrong was open his christmas present early

What should of happened was he should have gotten spanked and possibly make him wait to open his present until after chriss. But charging him for a crime, that is absoultly f-ing ridiculous.

The child should be removed from custody until the parents learn how to parent their child.

The only thing annoying me more than the story is the people saying things like "the kid had it coming" and "maybe it will teach him something" like it was the right move to make.

It should have never come to this in the first place. All her having her own son arrested for something so small as this shows is that she has no control over him at all. The fact that he`s getting a GBA after he`s committed more crimes than I have is a sign of how well he is parented and none of the people that have gaurdianship over him right now deserve it. That stupid bimbo needs to tell her stupid bimbo daughter to tell her stupid bimbo daughter to give up the kid before he`s a meth smoking, 7-11 that he works at robbing, soon to be father of a 14 year old`s child at 13, "Squeal like a piggy" peice of work.

And I got 200 on this family being white.

I think it`s a good thing that she did that. I definitely don`t think it`s bad parenting to try to show a child what it`s like if he continues doing things he`s told not to do, and things he knows is wrong. Sometimes things like this work, sometimes they don`t, but no harm in trying to help your child.

mmmm...Christmas cheer, it truely warms the heart to see everyone getting along these days....oh wait I forgot everyone freaking retarded these days. Like most incidents everyone`s at fault, except surprisingly the police. They did their job and settled everyone down, and even though they charged the kid he wasn`t put in Juvi. The mom needs to grow some balls and discipline her delinquint child. A parent shouldn`t have to threaten with the police unless it was something very serious. The child is a total loss apparently. It doesn`t really matter what happens to him here, because he`ll end up going to Juvi eventually. As for the Great-grandmother...63? come on. 4 generations in 63 years? That might be a contributing problem.

She said he has shoplifted, stolen money from her, punched a police officer and is nearing expulsion from school. She told the paper that she hopes this arrest will be a wake-up call for her son, because she worries about getting a call someday telling her he`s been killed.

She may be a bad parent, but the brat had it coming if he`s punched a police officer (I assume he has a record now and if he doesn`t he should). I don`t necessarily like that the police got involved, but since she`s not abusing him I doubt DCF will ever get involved, sadly.

ergh its the mothers fault for putting it under tree erarly, if she knew what kind of kid her son is she should have figured out that he`d take it, Give him some slack he`s only little and she said herself that he had problems.

Why on earth did the police even get involved?

He opened a present that was brought for him, that had his name on and was to be given to him.. and this is considered stealing? Or "petty larceny"? )-|

And if he`s such a little shít why did the grandmother give him a gameboy anyway?! Oh yes, you`ve been such a bad boy this year but what the hell.. i`ll get you everything you want for christmas.. :/

devi: not only did the mother have him at 15, but her mother and her grandmother both had kids around the same age...
The great-grandmother was in her mid-thirties when she became a grandmother!

That mother made two mistakes. Number one being a little hussy at age 15. The second mistake is not beating that child daily within an inch of his life just for being a little fart. He should cower at his mother`s very presence. She should not expect the state to do this for her.

I purpose she calls me. I will personaly go over there for the price of a plane ticket and beat the holy living crap out of the child. I will then give his mother a belt with studs and a large and solid bat. I will instruct her on where to hit and how often.

"I`m trying to get him some kind of help," the 27-year-old mother told the paper. "He`s the type of kid who doesn`t believe anything until it happens."
Yeah, but you still don`t do THAT! Both of them have problems. Someone needs a social worker or something.

"She said he has shoplifted, stolen money from her, punched a police officer and is nearing expulsion from school"

Why in the blue hell is that brat getting anything but coal and a job for Christmas?

"She said he has shoplifted, stolen money from her, punched a police officer and is nearing expulsion from school. She told the paper that she hopes this arrest will be a wake-up call for her son, because she worries about getting a call someday telling her he`s been killed."

Um lets see where to start on that she don`t know how to parent thing.....The kid wouldn`t be this bad if she bother to have showed the kid what the real world is like. If I even seen a kids do this in front of thier mother I wouldn`t talk to the kid I would take to the parent.....Period.

Although I don`t think calling the police over something so petty is going to turn the kid`s world upside down, I am on the mother`s side. The kid sounds like a real brat who needs some sort of behavioral intervention.

Very misbehaved child but he deserved it. I would think it`s partly the mothers fault that the child is messed up like that...

Probably lets that kid walk all over her...I`m not saying beat the kid senseless or anything, but damn, I`d take that kid and wack him around a little bit. I only fk`d up once, and that was stealing my stepdads car and getting caught by the police...My mom talked him out of pressing charges...But I haven`t done anything like that since...Some parents need to learn to put some fear into their kids. And now that he`s been arrested, and it probably wasn`t so bad, he`ll think he`ll be able to get away with anything, and if not "hey, being arrested wasn`t so bad" until he gets busted for something serious...

Obviously the kid doens`t believe her, she doesn`t discipline him! She expect the friggin police to take her kid when he acts up! Parents these days, expecting their kids to just be good, and giving up as soon as the kid starts rebeling.
That kid would be better off with the state only because she`s a moron.
