Sometimes I scan old photos and then saturate them in Photoshop. If you do it enough, the photo starts to become colored. Still, you end up with garish, shocking colors.

People, do your research! Color photography has been around since 1861 and was developed for the market in 1907. Or do most of you people just like making stuff up as you go along?

Doesn`t seem believable. If color photos were around in the late 1800`s, then shouldn`t our technology of photography be so much more advanced?

^^^

how more advanced do you want it to be? explain?...?

I`m impressed. The war photos looked like they could`ve been taken last week (except for the dated uniforms, etc).

WTF people? It`s clearly NOT photoshopped or tinted, or did you not bother to read the captions?

And I thought that was amazing--I had no idea color photography was that old.

Interesting.. that technique the Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii guy used with three color filters was used by some guy who posted on the internet about making their old Game Boy Camera take color photes if I remember correctly. =)

It`s amazing how Russia took a turn in the 90`s, and how poor they were.

No, Autochrome(the first color film) came about in 1907. Kodachrome was better quality, it came in the 30`s. But I`d say its definitely possible that they came up with techniques to take color pictures back then.

I know the one where he takes 3 black and white pictures through filters has been done before.

hitler`s mood in black and white: brooding.

-And I just actually read the captions. It turns out these are actually color pictures from their respective time periods. That changes this from mediocre to pretty interesting. I wondered why they looked like actual color photo`s, guess I should have read the captions before I went and assumed they were colored black and whites.-

I find it fascinating how seeing those pictures in color makes those times seem somehow more real. In blackand white they are safely in the past, but a quality, color image..

Btw, they arent fake. This photographic process is well documented. Some may be touched up, of course. I know that the ones from the russian photographer are touched up to remove scratches and such, and correct color.

....the whole point is that they ARE photoshopped. They were black and white, now they`re in color.

The last one can`t be iraq because they aren`t in desert camo. But it does look like it`s from a movie or something.

And I don`t know if it`s because these all looked a little too good to be true, or if it`s because I`ve known about color being put into black and whites for at least 4 years, but none of these really `wowed` me.

The very last one could easily be in Iraq or somewhere now, I could easily see the pic on the news websites. And Hitler, gosh he looks nice, I always thought he was green skinned and had purple hair! My bad!
