Screw trying to tidy up the whole political correctness thing. Most importantly these people are AMAZING!! Not only are they genius on their instruments they actually are doing it out of their own type of passion with no strings attached. You could barely find anybody in the music industry to practice and actually give a damn about their "talent" or craft and here we have these incredible talents that savor and enjoy their art just for the sake of art, no more no less. I believe we could call most of the music industry talent a bunch of retards and tell them to come back when they have something special to offer!!

don`t start (or, rather, continue) arguing about Political Correctness... as long as the point`s gotten across it doesn`t matter if they`re "Native American" or "Mentally Unfit"
bah humbug
and about the kid.. that`s awesome, but I didn`t like his mom. She seemed like she was just lapping up the attention
Amazing abilities though, especially the 20-something kid, that was amazing how he could alter the music, but I don`t understand how if they can`t distinguish between a physical object with touch (the circle square thing) and they can`t count, how would they know the difference between different musical styles and whatnot
IT`S A CONSPIRACY I SAY!!!
^ just kidding ^ ...sheesh...

wow... truly amazing, i was speechless through the whole thing, its sad that hes mentally disabled though, it seems like all gifted and talented people are given the disabilities and die young... like that 13 year old painter girl who could paint still life portraits better then a master artist, yet she died when she was 16 or so

MENTALLY DISABLED!!! argh, eh, it doesn`t matter. no one really listens. but how can you not see the godness in that? that boy is blind and has brain damage yet he can play like he`s 24 and has been playing his whole life. AND he can name the notes

They are working on ways of doing infetro testing to weed out disorders like this. Just abort them without a thought. Well it`s stories like this that drive it home that we are all unique and special in our own ways and all deserve a chance to live.

DEREK GOT SKILLZ! I love how he changed Beetoven music into Mozart. Personally, I liked it better Mozart style. But its sad how he can`t even remember HOW he does it. I sometimes wonder how I do things, but I never forget...sad...I wanna cure everyone of their disabilaties.

@Ron
Imagine what he could do with a Kazoo.
@KixStar
The way I see it, the brain is like a computer, By shutting down the Sight, train of thought and intelligent programs, it Freed up A LOT of RAM for Music, he can just process it better and faster without having to run other things in the background (like thought) (Not saying he isn`t thinking

What I mean is, Windos XP has never ben installed, they are just Running WinAmp on DOS on a 2gb RAM 4.2 ghz Dual core Processor With a 250 gb hardrive that has no Internet connection or any other hardware asides from A Mic and Speakers.

(Trying tog et a conversation going, yes)

This is why I love music and the arts so much... it brings even the secluded (by that, I mean, they`re trapped in their own minds) into the world.

phs. i can do that and im not mentally retarted. im blind too, im deaf and i have no arms. hahahahaha .
savants are amazing, it`s too bad people are mentally challenged and can do amazing things. we could learn a lot from them if they knew what they were doing.

beautiful, just beautiful. but seriosuly, ugh, "retarded" is SO politically incorrect. i think he and his mother would prefer the term "mentally disabled"

That is absolutley amazing. I mean, I know some people have an ear for music (so they no if the notes right or something) but this is just out of this world.

"Retarded" comes from the french Word "Retarder" or "En Retard" meaning Late.

Like Restaurant, Is a french Word meaning Restauration

When somebody comes out of jail on parol, Its french for "On his word"

And plenty of other things like that.

The idea is that if one part of the brain is impaired, other parts can take over and a "savant" can emerge. Similar to the idea that if you lose the use of one of your senses, the others with take over to compensate for the loss. Which could also help account for this genius in blind people. They lost the use of their eyes, so perhaps their ears are taking over the work, making them able to hear the music and duplicate it better than the average person.

/my 2 cents

awh what a sweet handsom little boy. He isn`t stupid, he is actualy quit smart, he just uses his smarts differntly then others. This just goes to show that it doesn`t matter how smart you are you can do anything :) yey!

"Not working for me right now.. I thought the PC term was "Mentally Impaired"?"
what makes "impaired" less offensive than "retarded"? only the fact that people purposly use it offensively. the word on its own is no more correct, its how you use it.

It`s referred to mentally challenged.

This is just like what my math teacher told me.
He said that even if you are mentally challenged there are some awesome abilities you can have.

Like this one guy memorized all the baseball almanacs, so if you ask him one game he`ll say the score, and who won.

And another guy, is a human calculator. You tell him any problem and he`ll solve it in his head in less than a minute.

very patients parents and hope can do miracles.

The kid is lovely, trouble to manage hate and strong s emotions but yeah, amazing.

Do you all understand that maybe 30 years ago, they will have put him in a hospital and give him shocks and lobotomy until he turn into a vegetable?

I`m glad that humans -at least- have improve on this, so save genius like those.

i dont think thats a problem, the term retarded has a reasonable foundation.

1 or 2 steps up from idiot

But aside from that, thats some astounding piano playing. the part where the 20 something year old person changes around the style of the piece is astounding. i makes me wonder if there are prodigy`s for art.
