First look at the Simpsons movie.

I thought it was kinda funny.

Anyway, nothing annoys me more when a movie has a good trailer and I go and see the movie and the trailer WAS the movie, the only good bit in the movie. The Simpsons are probably leaving their best bits for those who pay to see the movie.

Try NO sense of humor. Your inside jokes don`t count. Nice grindin` with you, nutty!

"Like SOMEONE being too short-sighted to notice I was JOKING??"

Differing senses of humor have nothing to do with short-sightedness. Nice try, though.

"You are my alter-ego."

You`re worse off than I thought.

Suicism, ladies and gentlemen. Certifiably insane. Keep going, but you can do so without me. I`m outta this nuthouse.

Actually, all that coffee might be the problem; you clue us into that little pastime straight away. That`s right, I`m arguing with myself. Must have duplicate profiles. You are my alter-ego. Sometimes I feel the need to deface my alter-ego. Why the two n`s anyway? And just what exactly do you think you`re over?
Clearly, it`s not yourself.

Short-sighted? Like SOMEONE being too short-sighted to notice I was JOKING?? You need to lighten up, buddy. Relax. Have a coffee-break.

"Thought you would have no problem picking up on that one, Over man! Maybe you didn`t see the episode. We`re just arguing about stupid adult cartoon sitcoms. It`s no big deal."

First off, my screename is `Overmann`. I write your screename properly and would appreciate at least that courtesy in return. Second, I am not arguing about adult cartoon sitcoms, you are. Though you may like to think otherwise, you`re arguing with yourself because I haven`t even mentioned South Park in this thread until just now. But carry on if you must.

"Because we have had so much fun together in the past. I miss the good times."

That`s a non-answer to my question. Being facetious adds nothing to your defense, namely your statement that you were not flattering yourself. Again, why would you think I only respond to you, if you weren`t flattering yourself? Only other explanation is you`re either delusional or badly short-sighted.

And no, it`s not my roundabout way of weasling in agreement with you, but thanks for asking. In all reality, I don`t think it`s really possible for any series to have done EVERYTHING, because `everything` is what they make it and only comes into being once they decide to stop. It was obviously an exaggerated statement on behalf of the writers of South Park, though relevant in the context of how it must have reflected THEIR writing angst, perhaps in the early years, running into the same speed-bumps of trying to overcome what has been done in the past. Thought you would have no problem picking up on that one, Over man! Maybe you didn`t see the episode. We`re just arguing about stupid adult cartoon sitcoms. It`s no big deal.

"Now why would you think that, Suicism?"
Because we have had so much fun together in the past.
I miss the good times.

Also, because I cower in the face of your discussion board lordship!

Actually, I was just trying to brainstorm possible reasons why you might percieve the evolution of the series in such a way, and that analogy came to mind. I hope I didn`t leave you feeling TOO violated by the end of the day!

"Don`t compliment yourself by humoring some distorted sense of influence, thinking I would flatter myself on your account"

Actually, I don`t think you need any reason at all to flatter yourself. As far as me "complimenting" myself, I was remarking on your initial assumption, which seemed to me a lot like flattery. Why? Because it`s absurd to think I only post in response to posts by specific authors, or you specifically. Now why would you think that, Suicism?

...Why do you feel it necessary to use an analogy to explain my point when I blatantly stated it? Is that your round-about way of agreeing with me?

Don`t compliment yourself by humoring some distorted sense of influence, thinking I would flatter myself on your account; I was merely being flippant. As far as threadbare plotlines, if there is any cause for such a phenomenon as you see it occuring, it may come down to what South Park was pointing out in their episode involving the Simpsons: Butters (Dr. Chaos) just cannot devise an original scheme for chaos and general mischief that has not already been accomplished by the Simpsons, for the simple reason that everything has been done (in 10 seasons of story-telling); a simple fact which he is reminded of by the `lesson kids` (Stan and Kyle) at the end of the show, just in time to quell his full-fledged panic-attack.

"I really do find it delightful that you only respond to my comments, Overmann."

Whoa, don`t flatter yourself, bud. I responded to that post because it struck a chord. The author is irrelevant.

I consider "older" episodes to be of the era you mentioned: mid to late 90s, which was the peak of the series, in my opinion. Right now the episodes` plots are too transparent and threadbare for the intermittent jokes to be appreciated. Dare I say they`ve run out of material?

"Anyway, maybe I`m just tired of hearing everybody`s hypercriticism of things I still love and can appreciate."

More people are responding positively than negatively. Even so, I`d wager a fair number of those who don`t look forward to the movie still respect the series for what it was, at its peak.

By the way, the latest South Park episode, while great, was the first episode in which I was able to actually predict a gag, right down to the button. It really disappointed me. Can you guess what it was?

and since when did Burns stop consistently failing to remember Homer`s last name? I really do miss that gag.

I really do find it delightful that you only respond to my comments, Overmann. Anyway, maybe I`m just tired of hearing everybody`s hypercriticism of things I still love and can appreciate. They do poke fun at themselves a bit more than they used to, but contrary to your perspective, I still find the OLDER episodes to be much more predictable and slower, as a matter of fact, in development. I find the newer episodes (I`m talking newer since the mid to late 90`s and on) to be much more fast-paced and crammed with humor/satire; maybe not in the layers you`d find an a series like South Park, which I also believe has gotten better since the 3rd season and on, but definitely still intesely engaging. Maybe you see it as stale, but to me it`s merely a formula that does not fail. Hansbo does make a good point though (page 2), those type of off-the-wall jokes where the show`s structural integrity (official character names, lineage and such) is put into question are not as prominent,

" if anyone knows what its called (the 3d world thing) you tell them. im off to bed "

Well, it`s actually called 3d... but it`s outputted as vectors and has very little texturing. I found out how to reproduce it recently and it`s neat! (if anyone cared...)

True that, AJR. With a show like The Simpsons, it`s hard to know when the shark has been jumped. They keep getting closer and closer to that ramp, but never seem to go through with it.

I am very much looking forward to seeing The Simpsons Movie. Hell, I was looking forward to it even before seeing this trailer; my resolve is now solidified. I`m seeing it.

MissCutieRoo: A trailer IS a commercial. A commercial for a movie.

I think you`re generalizing a wee bit there, Suicism. The older episodes were definitely funnier than these newer ones, primarily because the jokes and storylines were still fresh.

I watched a newer episode of The Simpsons recently and was dismayed at how much the show picked fun at itself (in actual character dialogue) for running as long. What was the point of that?

Just because I don`t like the newer episodes and the direction the series has gone doesn`t mean I can`t appreciate the series in its entirity.

"Thankfully, they`re making the Futurama film and if it sells well they`re writing another series."

Just to let you know, they already are making another series of Futurama, they`re just waiting for Cartoon Network`s deal with the show to end, then they will make it on (I think) Comedy Central. They will be using all of the same voice actors. I think it will air in 2008.

he/she means the 3D world its in...its hard to explain but if you watch it you will understand. futurama although is 2d has 3d elements meaning it can move around freely. this has that, and its all tidy and reminded me of the rugrats movies and the other one about the jungle...i think this will be funnyfor 25 mins and then just get boring.

i hope im wrong.

ps: if anyone knows what its called (the 3d world thing) you tell them. im off to bed

I think my main problem with this trailer is that the jokes seem to be a lot like the newer episodes. I do think that the show has lost a lot over the years, but the main thing that annoys me is the change of direction. Increased quality of animation is always great, of course, but the simpsons show has really lost it`s show. Of course, any hard-core Simpons fan could tell you this.
"Hello, my name is mr. Burns. I believe you have a letter for me"
"Okay, what`s your first name mr. Burns?"
"... I don`t know"
In this dialog, make Homer use a funny accent (completely unnessecary of course, since he obviously didn`t know the mail clerk from before), and you get a classic Simpsons joke. These kinds of jokes are not made anymore.

Wow you`re all fricken stupid... the trailer is funny with hilarious subtleties that I`m surprised you all miss......... It was made with so little because their thoughts are that TheSimpsons already have a HUGE fan base, why waste time giving out great jokes from the movie when 80% of the people watching the trailer will go see it anyway?

I like the fact they didn`t show much, just means more hilarity to come.

A joy! A blessing! Stuck between a rock and a hard place! The Zesty Fork?!?! Oh well, this should have come out a long time ago; then again, that would have meant the series ENDED a long time ago. Anyone who believes the Simpsons became stale at some point? I guess they probably like the first two seasons of South Park ONLY, when they were still doing potty humor and situational comedy almost exclusively. Matt Groening is a genius, anything he does is great, and if you can`t appreciate the tightness and sophistication that grows into these series` as they age like a way too alcoholic wine, then you`re unfit to appreciate this genre of satire.

I mean come on, that was a funny trailer if you don`t like it do something else.
Go watch T.V., read a book, go outside, but don`t act as though we give a flying sh*t about how they`re not funny, and they should cancel it.

And for gods sake if you don`t like The Simpsons don`t watch the f*cking trailer.

That tells us loooads about the movie, what`s the point in seeing it now? They`ve just given the whole thing away.
Anyway, I agree with cakeisgood. These new episodes of The Simpsons really suck. I get one laugh, two at the most, laughs per episode. And they have no storyline. And yes, why did they cancel Futurama and keep this going? Thankfully, they`re making the Futurama film and if it sells well they`re writing another series.
I might see this movie when it comes out on DVD though. Just in case.

At first i was like "wrong link? that look nothing like the simpson" then its started ^^* I do like the simpson and i`ll probably rent that movie when its get out in DVD ^^

oh and, I think after, well how many? 19-20 seasons... yeah... its possible to run out of idea...

and with the "OMG REPOST!!!11!!!!1one" I see here everyday... Yeah you cannot use the old same ideas cause there always a fanboy somewhere who will scream in despair that "he saw that already"

I agree, simpson are old, maybe they should fade away... but you know, if they KEPT it because they still have good audiences rates... probably better than the cancelled show ^^;

I hope its like the old episodes of the simpsons and not the newer ones. From a certain point (dont ask me when) the simpsons just started getting crap and in the end the stupid storylines they came out with just to keep the series going used to p*ss me off! Why cancel a great show like futurama and keep the simpsons going waayyy past it`s expiry date? Woah, look at me rant! Long story short, going to see the movie, just hope its funny!
