Remote Control Plane Goggles

Submitted by: buddy 10 years ago in Misc

The camera on the plane follows the motion of his head, so it"s like he"s looking around while flying.

Wow, the camera setup makes the video look like the guy is actually in the air, flying! :-O

Yeah, he`s pretty much described the set-up with the gyros etc.. wouldn`t be hard to replicate that set-up using micro controllers to transfer the head to camera positional information. Getting enough RF bandwidth for the video would be a pain.

Some guys in 4th year enginnering undergrad are designing a similar system (though not head controlled) mounted on a RC hovercraft.

Ok first of all i did the research and something like that would cost from 300-400 dollars depending on where you are. Its possible and very easy to do. The googles are normaly used for Flight Sim games and work great. Im sure thats where this guy got the idea from. Good Job to him.

If he decides to commercialize this, he will be a millionaire. I`d buy it. I mean, for the right prize, who wouldn`t? It`s like all the good things with being a pilot, minus the bad things like it`s dangerous and difficult.

the miltary does have a system similar to this in apache longbow i forgot what it`s called but it basically plugs into the pilots helmet and then he controls the choppers minigun by looking around it`s really cool.

I`m going to laugh when some of you are going to get sick from this. Motion sickness should not be taken lightly, and you not moving while your eyes think your moving is going to cause your lunch to come back up.

wait until the papparazzi get a hold of these. they`ll be buzzing over celebs homes hoping too catch them out by the pool. Sean Penn will be out there trying to shoot them down.

clever guy. great idea, the only possible problem being the range of the transmissions. This would probably hinder long distance flights or satellite visual control. well at least without stupidly expensive units. give it 10-20 years and i wouldnt be suprised if this was a common war toy :)

Ah, but how do we know the Army HASN`T thought of this, and might be doing it right NOW?? *intense music* Bump-bump-BUUUUUUUMP!!!

Or maybe I`m just paranoid. :-?

Either way, this is an excellent idea. Imagine wearing the goggles while somebody else controls the plane! You wouldn`t know what to expect...HEY!! It might be good for people afraid to fly. I call dibs on that idea! DIBS!!

The plane is controlled by the controller...The on board camera is controlled by the headset he is wearing..theway he looks is the way the camera points.. he looks left the cam looks left....
My only question is how long before the Army see this and think....DAMN WHY DID WE NOT TRY THIS ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Male 20
The camera redirects in the way in which he was looking. The plane itself is still controlled by the controller I believe. The camera just helps him see where the plane is and view the scenery around him :) .

^ He just moves his head and the plane redirects itself in that direction...How he gets the plane to come back to him I have no idea...That is how I think it works at least
How intense...

To bad this guy probably looks really silly in the middle of the field
Probably has his arms all spread out doing circles in a grass field while making plane noises
What a silly :P
...nice music though
