Limbaugh`s cigar smoking, drug addicted, sex tourist ass just showed how disgustingly low he`ll sink to further the twisted Rightwing agenda.

It just goes to show you how terrified the Republicans are of losing the house this November. There is no low too low.

he isn`t overacting. parkinson`s patients can deteriorate quickly enough that you can see drastic changes in them in a period of a year. and honestly, no sufferer of parkinson`s is going to cheapen the importance of the search for a cure with so petty a thing as overacting. not using stem cells to aid the search for a cure is just incomprehensible, especially when we`re finding them in placenta now.

nobody in their right mind would want to ban stem cell research as a whole. what a lot of people have a problem with, is embryonic stem cell research. to get the stem cell lines from the embryo (fertilized egg, a few days old) you have to destroy it. so if you consider the embryo to be a life, then embryonic stem cell research is murder, and its unacceptable as a way to find a cure. anyway, other, less controversial types of stem cell are available and actually a better option for research.

Michael J Fox is not overacting in this ad; in fact, he has stated that he was over-medicated for this ad, which causes the jerking movement called dyskenesis (OK, can`t spell that.) He said that if he hadn`t taken any medication he wouldn`t have been able to speak. I think it`s really heartbreaking, and MJF is the best.

I don`t get why people are so against embryonic stem cell research, either. The embryos are just going to end up in the trash anyway, so why not put them to good use?

well, its a good thing youre not the one deciding these matters, it really sounds like you dont know what youre talking about.
and im sure people dont want stem cell reasearch because they dont KNOW there are other ways then abortion... im sure if people knew, they wouldnt disagree aside from acctually aborted stem cells.

Rush is an idiot. My grandfater had Parkinson`s for quite a while. What`s amusing is that if they give them too much medication, the go into schizophrenia since the two are sister diseases.

As for the stem cell research, I`m all for it in whatever form. People will have abortions whether you like it or not. So, might as well make those embryos useful, right? Why put them to waste? Crass, yes, but pragmatic. As for the other forms of it, I`m all for those too.

What`s amusing is if the stem cell research is banned, it`ll just be another example of Catholicism holding back science. They did it all through the middle ages and the renaissance, guess they`re not above doing it now. The truly ironic thing would be if Rush got parkinson`s. Then we`ll see how he feels about stem cell research.

It`s not overacting. But it -can- seem that way because MJF has the ability to keep him in a condition where he doesn`t look like that. So for the purpose of the ad he didn`t. He let himself be seen at his worse. Cause if he had appeared normal it wouldn`t have had the same effect. Thus anyone who sees him normally would think it was overacting.

There are viable alternatives to embyonic stem cell research that doesn`t come with the ethical questions. When in doubt, if you can get the same results without the question of ethics... choose that route.

Rush is an idiot. Canada sucks. these are two very true statements. but you see Rush is an American citizen who is entitled to his political views. Canadians seem to think that they can have an opinion in our politics. like their liberal views somehow make them authorities on our political system. Canadians are just pansies who house runaway soldiers, who joined the army just for the college money, then got cold feet. Dont think that you can bash the greatest country in the world just because you live next door. I`m sure that with your "army" if you were ever attacked by terrorists, you would know just what to do to defend yourselves.

Wikipedia seems to believe Limbaugh made his comments "while imitating Fox`s symptoms." I`m speechless.

Limbaugh wouldn`t have accused Fox of overacting if he didn`t feel Fox`s message was threatening to the conservative and\or Republican agenda. So what if he wasn`t on medication, Rush? Everyone should see the ugly truth behind Parkinson`s.

sugaman2k3, the wonderful thing about the US is that *anyone* can have an opinion about the politics in this nation. You seem like one of those over-hyped super-patriots who willfully ignore the real reasons the US is "the greatest country in the world". I happen to disagree (Deutschland überall...) with that sentiment... unless you`re telling me I can`t because I am not an American citizen.

:( My school has a huge "Vote NO! on amendment two, know the truth" sign above it. It`s a little obnoxious. I know people who agree with it who find it obnoxious.
But anyway... I don`t think he`s over-acting at all. I`ve seen people in person with this horrible disease, and they were worse than he was in that ad.
Also, for Overmann and sugaman2k3, while I do love my country, I am going to have to disagree and say that I don`t think it`s the greatest country in the world. I would like for us to be, but it`s not the case. Sorry if I sound too `liberal` saying that. I just think that we should be able to do better.

Oh, yes and sertrbl? It actually is true that they are just going to throw away the already fertilized eggs. You see, if someone artificially inseminated, they use several eggs, and once they get one that is fertilized, they throw the rest away. They are going to be aborted anyway. Why waste such a chance that could potentially save lives and improve the lives of those who have problems such as Parkinson`s? You`re preventing these people from having any hope. What matters to you more, an embryo that is going to be tossed anyway or a human-being who is alive now, but may die a premature death?

The funny thing is, Limbaugh never thought "we," the normal, non-rightwing public would hear his comments. He caters to a group of loyal listeners who believe every word he says. So, he was preaching to the choir when he made fun of MJF. But, thankfully, someone else other than a Republican heard his broadcast and was rightfully outraged.

Now, the ad is all over the new and internet, gaining far more exposure that MJF ever intended. After all, the add was produced for a specific race. And now even Europeans and everyone else is aware of what Rightwing nutjobs are like in this country. Talk about back-firing! Limbaugh gave MJF and the stem-cell issue a huge boost! I bet he wasn`t planning on that.

And frankly, when your only arguement against a scientific course of study is "The Bible is true and we need to heed it," that just isn`t convincing to those who actually think and reason.

    Parkinson`s

    To name but 3.

It`s all fine and dandy saying that stem cell research wastes lives, but surely no-one wants those lives to have been taken in vain?

Enough embryos have been killed already, if stem cell research is stopped then those lives will truly have been wasted.

Everyone dies; if I gave my life so that others may live then I`d be proud.

Oh, and fark you Suquaman. While I`m all for playful jesting with the 51st state, I must take issue with those who mock Canada`s armed forces. Their soldiers are fighting in Afghanistan too. They are dying too. There are Candian special forces who could kill you with their bare hands, just like ours could. Don`t disparage good friends in matters of honor and bravery.

They landed a division in Normandy back in WWII. Their bodies stop bullets the same as ours.

They are a nation with a population the size of California, of course they won`t have a large military. But screw you for denigrating the honor and sacrifice of one of our closest allys. There are Canadians in graves right now, just so you can sit at home and type your snide little comments. Lets honor those who fight for our freedom and way of life.

You are no better than those "religious" people who goto GI`s funerals and celebrate their deaths because america is accepting of homosexuals. Fark you.

FUNNY THING: Its been proved exctasy actually make the symptoms better, and many research are atm in progress to define what make exctasy so usefull for parkinson. Now if I could find that link i`ll post it...

And for the research on those cells... Im somehow against it...

Listen to me people... I am a strong beliver of "prochoice" (flare me if you want, I dont care, I think I prefer legal, secure abortion (its already that stressfull) than a custom made one which can go as far as killing the woman) So its not a question of if abortion should be legal or not...

BUT... if we allow the research on this cell... the bridge to clonage is so close that its scary... If you allow to research on fertilized cell, its only a matter of time that someone claims that research on humans is possible. Its really open the door to tons of nasty human experiment and i dont think we should.

I`m sorry for those diseases... even more than I saw it every single day of my life for 4 years... It was painfull, heart broking and frustrating... to see those people suffer.. not only them but the whole familly arround it...

But... clonage is a absolut no no... too much nasty posibility...

I don`t understand why people want to hold back on stem cell research when it can save so many lives. And Guest, I don`t really understand your argument. Research has been done on humans, maybe not cloning, but still pretty nasty stuff. The only thing that stops "nasty human experiment" is that sense of morality that most of us have.

convince the world the lower classes are incapable of making rational decisions, elitist enact laws enabling themselves, abortion, cloning & gender seletion will further the a better race with the help of the 3 majority subversive non-united parties

lower classes will welcome this deleterious existance voting by proxy & emotion, all precedence folds under the weight of their guilt, new laws will allow higher classes to decide the fate of the inferior to include medical experimentation & subjected to removal for the good of the people/elite

"Also, for Overmann and sugaman2k3, while I do love my country, I am going to have to disagree and say that I don`t think it`s the greatest country in the world."

I was actually stating that I felt America isn`t the best country in the world, though I could have arranged the wording better (not have separated the statement with parenthesis).

"I hate Rush Limbarf and I`m in favor of stem-cell research, but Fox was definately hamming it up for the ad."

If so, then only because Americans can`t be motivated to do anything on the sole premise that someone other than themselves has a debilitating disease. Americans like you, I dare presume.

    "Somebody needs to smack him."

That wouldn`t cause him any more pain than what he has to deal with day in and day out.

Most people don`t understand stem cell research at all and that`s why they oppose it. Stem cells are not often harvested from aborted fetuses. What they do is, out side of the body, fertilize an egg and wait untill it divides a few hundred times. At this point and only at this point are the cells inspecific of what they are. By the time a fetus exsists cells have already taken on identities and are useless. If more people were educated then there would be less opposition to this sort of thing.

No baby dies for stem cell research. If you consider a fetus life as well, none of those die either. Stem cells are harvested long before anything that could loosely be considered independent life has started

Not all stem cells come from aborted babies, doctors can get stem cells from a new-born`s ambilical cord. But there are alternatives to stem cells for people, such as sufferers of parkinsons disease. There is a brain implant that uses safe magnetic waves to immediately relieve the symptoms of parkinsons. So even if stem cell research isn`t legaized there are still options.

Im sorry, When did it become wrong to be ultra patriotic? I DO live in the best country in the world, and i don`t care what anyone else thinks about it. It is MY right to say what i want, just as it is for Rush to say what you want, and every other American can say what they please as well. All of those that think America is not the best country in the world, do everyone a favor and move on out, make room for the Spanish speaking population who seem to have contrary beliefs.

"When did it become wrong to be ultra patriotic?"

When it prevents any individual from adopting anything but an ethnocentric, xenophobic, and short-sighted perspective. How often have you travelled out of the country? Over the Atlantic? Pacific? Have you ever visited Canada for any length of time? It would do you a world of good, even if you may not think so.

"All of those that think America is not the best country in the world, do everyone a favor and move on out"

Surely you are not suggesting I relocate simply because I disagree with your opinion? It smacks of facism, which actually is the root evil of super patriotism. See, you say you are supportive of the freedom of expression and yet you turn around and suggest those with whom you disagree with should move out of the country. Are you a hypocrite, too?

Michael J Fox is a hero, not to mention a Canadian. Speaking of, I am so tired of reading how we have no say in the political landscape of America. If it really is the `driving force`and protector(superpower) of the world, like some here think, then all countries have invested interest in America`s politics. The American `Empire` is crumbling, showing its true colours to the entire world. Instead of flaming yer allies it`s time for some humility, American arrogance(government and fundies)is what is making yer country isolationist. No friends, no trading. Americans reduce their consumption of commercialism? Lol! Canada has a small military, I concede, but why would we need one?Who has Canada bullied in the past? Who would want to conquer us? (except the USA-the only country to ever try and invade Canada)Yeah we`re in Afghanistan-fighting the bogus war of GWB, getting killed in the name of oil! if Canada was attacked we have the backing of the commonwealth, don`t need ya.

Sorry one more thing, violence breeds violence, and greed drives big business. America is at war with someone at least every ten years, sustaining the gun and artilary sect. America spends millions to fund wars and the pockets of corporate America. Don`t need a big army if you don`t wage war/make enemies. Canada spends money to progress not regress. Or `liberal` programs save lives(universal healthcare-no one dying because they are too poor)! So you fight your wars, but leave us out of it-Canada barely has anything in common with the US these days anyway, and IMO that`s a good thing.

I have read many misnomers through out these threads, let`s start with the first, 1. Stem cell research will not use abortions, it will use embryos from fertility clinics that would have been discarded, a fetus does not have the undesigned stemcell, thus the name Embryonic Stem cell, so right to lifers do your home work.
    2. Canada has assisted us for years, and to the dumbasses who think that they weren`t there on Normandy, you need to actually open a book and read, they have backed our play in every war except the ovethrow off Iraq, why? Because they were smart and trusted their operatives intel, the U.S. did not. 3. Michael J. Fox is an American citizen, and he is suffering the side affects of the drugs that stabilize Parkinsons, that is why he shakes, otherwise he would appear like Terry Schivo(another proud consevative moment) 4. Conservatives must learn to enforce the laws and not re-write them to their profit, they enjoy the rich get richer and the poorer get the picture.

I don`t like stem cell research not because I think that an embryo is a life, because it`s not, but because I think that the world is overpopulated enough with thousands of people out there starving to death because we keep bringing in more babies and keeping old people alive WAY past their usefulness. Honestly, if we keep everyone alive, this planet is going to go under. But I must admit that I`d do anything to keep my love alive.

Overpopulation after major medical advancements has always been a concern of mine as well jj. As humans, we tend to forget about future generations, only thinking about what is important to us NOW.
That said, I still support stem cell research (yes, I`m a hypocrite). The science behind it is just incredible.

and if that were truly the case, I wouldn`t support stem cell research either. We are not wantonly killing babies in the name of this field of research, they are embryos that WOULD BE DISCARDED ANYWAY. Why not use them?

I have visited Canada for an extended period of time, in fact I have family that lives in Canada. You see i do not think that those who hate our country should be forced to move out, i simply think that there is no other place in the world where they would be allowed such liberty to express themselves. Seeing that the America is an oasis of freedom in the world should cause people to be a little more appreciative of their liberties. I do not believe that those with viewpoints differing from mine should leave, our ability to freely express ourselves is what makes our country great! I am ultra patriotic when it comes to my love and respect for my country, WE have a good thing here in America, and im sure that many other people feel the same about their country. It is our right to stand up for our nations, and we should do so whenever needed. I apologize for some of my neg comments towards Canada, they went a bit far.

Dear uneducated, encephalic, mouth-breathing morons that believe that stem-cells = cloning.

Take a look at your epidermis. (That`s skin for you slower mouth-breathing morons out there) In each square centimeter there are literally hundreds of thousands of stem-cells. Stem cells are, to put it very simply, cells that can grow into any other kind of cell.

And while I can still see the blank expression in your eyes, telling me that it`s still cloning. Let me lay a simple truth upon your simple mind. Your cells clone themselves, constantly. It`s called mitosis and it`s what keeps you alive. Weither god likes it or not, you`re a totally new human in a span of 5 years. Your liver`s cells clone themselves every 3 months...

Are you going to argue that a cell has rights? That they have a will to power?

These sick accusations of `clone armies` are products of the right-wing`s overactive, megalomaniacal imagination.

I find superstition to be far more frightening and destructive than sci

"You see i do not think that those who hate our country should be forced to move out..."

How to respond? I`ll answer with a quote of what you said on page 2:

"All of those that think America is not the best country in the world, do everyone a favor and move on out..."

You may want to adopt only one of those statements as your opinion (might I suggest the one that makes you look best?).

"i simply think that there is no other place in the world where they would be allowed such liberty to express themselves"

And here you are, suggesting others should *not* be able to express themselves:

"Canadians seem to think that they can have an opinion in our politics."

You`d be wrong, though: Germany is very liberal in terms of freedom of expression, there being only a general societal consensus that nudity supersedes violence in terms of what is more appropriately accessible and viewable by the public.

First - I rezent that, I breeth thru my mowth that dunt make me none dumer.
You are really really really over-simplifying stem cells. A stem-cell for skin produces skin, so you cannot just make a skin stem-cell produce liver cells. The stem-cells in question are embryonic stem-cells; meaning stem-cells that are formed when the zygote splits. In the long run, embryonic stem-cells will not be available just by the left overs from fertility clinics, not to mention `left-overs` could be frozen for several years potentially reducing the effectiveness. So cloning stem-cells will eventually be needed.
Take your thesaurus else where when trying to sound smart you ignorant prick.

"i dont think its ok for a baby to lose their life, so som rich guy can save his."
Its not a baby yet by any means, its a single cell. It won`t loose its life, just have its function changed. I don`t see how it is humane to not to use stem-cells. Protecting the `baby` it comes from,(that doesn`t even have a functioning brain yet) over a once fully-functioning full grown human that can feel pain. Denying embryonic stem-cell is torture, if not murder.

`What if one of the embryo`s would grow up to cure cancer?!` What if the same embryo went to cure an already existing genius with ALS so advanced, imo the worst genetic disorder known? Or what if it went to cure someone you loved, rich or poor?
