i found it kind of contradictory.

"IE will automatically delete all temporary files, but only if you tell it to."

its automatic, but you have to tell it to do it?

You can also break into an already locked computer (i.e. someone else`s) if at startup you hold down the button to get into safe mode (usually f4 or f8) and once inside (as an admin) you can remove all passwords.

The only flaw is they`ll know someone got in somehow.

I already knew some of those...and the ones I didn`t, I`ll never use anyway. I`m not interested in macs...I don`t know what the big deal is about those anyway...and I like IE. I tried firefox, and I didn`t like it at all. I like all the toolbar options and stuff I have with IE...along with some other stuff. I dunno why everyone always says "this is better" or whatever. just cause it works better for you, doesn`t mean it does for everyone...

    that said....

everyone has to go out and buy a dyson vacuum cleaner right now... they are the best. hahaha

dogdude1, a 5 second research would tell you IE 6 has more flaws then firefox. (106 versus 36, 19 unpatched versus firefox`s 3). The worst unpatched flaws in IE is rated “Extremely critical” and the worst unpatched flaws in FFs are rated “Less critical”.

Yeah, I knew about most of these, but some things were sort of wrong--Cleartype was already enabled by default on my computer. So was the network icon.

Oh, and to the people that say IE is great...it`s not. Yeah, it doesn`t crash, but it`s EXTREMELY vulnerable to hackers. Firefox is much more secure. Oh, and Adblock is the greatest Firefox extension known to man. Seriously.

    4. XP hides some system software you might want to remove, such as Windows Messenger, but you can make it show everything. Using Notepad or Edit, edit the text file /windows/inf/sysoc.inf, search for the word ‘hide’ and remove it. You can then go to the Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel, select Add/Remove Windows Components and there will be the software and you can now uninstall it."

There is nothing in my inf folder...o_0

2 things. dianne you are wrong, while pressing f8 will bring up the option to go to safemode that doesn`t mean that it automatically bypasses the admin password, you still have to know the pw. And for those of you who say that Firefox is better I suggest you try IE 7, it`s pretty much the same.

Those of you not able to figure out why Firefox is better have probably not heard of extensions. There are hundreds of these extensions available for free to make Firefox completely customized to your needs. My favorite extensions are Adblock (blocks ads on web pages), GooglePrieview (shows a little picture of the site next to your search results), ForcastFox (weather report right in the status bar), and Google BrowserSync (Syncs your browser history, bookmarks, etc. between multiple browsers). Firefox also has many skins to fit your style and has tabs so you do not need to open up multiple Windows. The best reason to switch to Firefox is the lack of security exploits so you can browse safer. I have looked at IE 7 but it does not add any functionality past that of IE 6 except for tabs and shininess.

TehAssassin`s post is great, but I`d like to add that security flaws have already been found in IE7.

Oh, and the US government`s Computer Emergency Readiness Team actually recommended that people use something other than Internet Explorer because of its security flaws.

ajr2006, even if FF and IE7 look the same and run the same there is still on major differnce: IE is and always be EMBEDDED into the OS! That one factor alone is what causes so many security nightmares for users. Firefox has its flaws, yes, but at least under Firefox I never had to worry about ActiveX controls taking control of the OS itself, so no homepage hijackers, no hosts file corruptions, no endless recurring popups. For this reason they will never be the same and stand alone programs like FF or Opera will always be better
