wow. talk about lack of common sense.I think teens should stay virgins till marriage... I`m going to stay one till marriage...why can`t people wait till they have that special someone? Do people have to be used up dry by the time they get married?..

That is just so sad. The worse part is, if asked and put on the spot, the teens would probably lie about this stuff. That is just sad.

"7% of the kids in that highschool have had other people watch them have sex? Yeah either they lied or they polled kids from St. Mary`s School for Prostitutes."

My b/f and I let our best male friend watch us because we`re really close to him and we`re comforatable with our bodies and don`t care if someone watches. I don`t think that someone who lets another person watch them have sex makes them a prostitute. Some people even get turned on when they know others are watching.

Because he doesn`t like ONE gay person he has to be straight? Some people shouldn`t be allowed to have kids.

:-/ F*cking retards. Those answers can`t be trusted because first of all people lie and second of all some people exaggerate things. They think they`ve done something when they haven`t. Anyway though, that`s still disgusting, teens shouldn`t be having sex that young, I mean some of the answers from the teens said to wait until 10th grade or until 16 years old like it`s okay. I mean come on, it`s 10th grade and 9th graders are thinking it`s acceptable by then. People should wait until at least 17 or 18. |-X People suck

In response to Guest5386, while I appreciate your attempt to "educate" me, I think you may have misunderstood. I used the term "nymphomanic" for lack of a better term to describe someone with excessive sexual desire. I`m sorry if the term isn`t politically correct, but thanks for the bit of history. And I in no way intended to imply that it isn`t ok for a woman to have sex for the pleasure of it. I do, however, disagree with being promiscuous... and just to clarify (so we`re on the same page this time), I use that term to describe anyone (male or female) who has indiscriminate sexual relations with a large number of partners esp. in a short period of time.

Also, for the record, I don`t hold the double standard that "a man sleeping with 50 girls is a hero and a girl sleeping with 35 guys is a "slut"... I would have the same opinion of them both.

"Do all interactions, from humans to others humans or humans to animals, have a sexual meaning."

Certainly not, but as far as affection goes, it falls on a sexual scale. Hugging is only mildly sexual while penetration is greatly sexual and so forth, for all animals.

I don`t reckon there has been this much explicit discussion about sex on IAB in a long while. I doubt I`ll ever say sex\sexual in as many days again anytime soon.

"If I kiss my cat, is that sexual?"

Yes.

"If my dog kisses my cat is that sexual?"

Other animals don`t express such forms of affection, you are anthropomorphizing. I said before the only form they know is sexual. And in truth humans don`t know of any other forms of affection but sex, yet they insist on relabelling them. Something about it being destructive to the bonds that hold human society together, I wager.

"I love my familly, my friends..."

Once more, I said nothing about love.

"I definitely think there is a difference between affection shown between family members and something that is `sexual`."

You would, being human and all.

"There`s a huge difference between nuturing and sexual connotations."

Not as huge as you might think. Why, do you suppose, do females experience sexual pleasure through the nipple? To serve as an incentive to suckle children. It`s just instinctual in nature.

"You are assuming there is only a sexual form of expressing love and that is not true."

I said nothing of love, only physical affection. I`m not at all talking about any potential emotional side to affection, only *the act itself*. Let that sink in a bit. Do you suppose animals love? For that matter, do humans love in any broader definition than through a chemical reaction?

I agree, the person dont have to understand that its sexual to have it labelled as "sexual". My mistake ^^ I wanted to show that the intent behind it was a very big factor. So do we have a consensus on "when there is intention of something sexual, its sexual" ?

If a grandma get over happy about her grand daughter and kiss the baby all over her face and on her lips... does its gonna make it sexual? no, its not gonna because none of the party had sexual intention, same for baby pictures in the bath.

I also agree with Clevebeat that there not only sexual affection in life. I love my familly, my friends and hell with it, even my kitty Céleste... dont make me go into bestality and incest. Thank you clevebeat ^^

Anyway, this study is so invalid it`s impossible to draw any conclusions on it whatsoever. No one else noted how the parents polled were not the same parents as the above students. They were from the same demographic, but that in and of itself skews the data. Who knows if there is another uncorrelated factor unexplored that could account for the differences between those parent`s kids and the kids in the study? We make the assumption that the kids are similiar, and they may be somewhat, but you cannot draw any definite conclusions from this at all.

I also work with youth. I`ve seen teens lie to "fit in" and I`ve also seen parents who have absolutely no clue what their teen is up to. There is certainly a discrepancy between parents and kids. The scary part is, what`s it going to be like for US when we become parents and what we think of our kids? I`m sure our generation will be equally as unaware. Every generation engages in activity earlier than the previous one.

I definitely think there is a difference between affection shown between family members and something that is "sexual". All physical affection is not sexual. There`s a huge difference between nuturing and sexual connotations. You are assuming there is only a sexual form of expressing love and that is not true. For example, what about animals or humans being affectionate toward other animals? If I kiss my cat, is that sexual? If my dog kisses my cat is that sexual? That would imply ideas that simply go against nature. However, the other party does not need to feel the intention of affection in order for something to be sexual. That would also be stating that if the implication was not understood by the person receiving affection that it wouldn`t be sexual. Not so. For example a retarded child or even a very small may not understand that they are being touched in a sexual manner. But it IS still sexual.

"even if a father THINK of having sex to his daughter the kiss is sexual FOR HIM... not to his daughter who dont feel the sexual intention in it..."

The daughter doesn`t have to "feel the intent" in order for the kiss to be sexual. I`m saying intent itself has nothing to do with whether the act is sexual. In order to understand this, I think you need to break away from a "human" perspective in favor of a more animalistic one, as indeed we are all animals.

In religion, the man pleasure always have been tolerate because its nesscesary to the reproduction Lets say a man need to ejaculate ,aka have a orgasm so have fun, in the matter of making babies... (thats not always true ... but the chance are better if the man ejacualte)

SO the man pleasure was by far more tolerate since it was "nessecary" to the act of reproduction ...

Woman ... the pleasure of a woman is not nesscary to reproduction (because if it was, a freaking good amount of us will never have been born ^_-)so it was say to be satanic and get you sick
(they say it was making you weak, have your legs shivers and weak, feel cold, reduce your mental capacity and much more... had a orgasm before? lets me say those are all normal.. dont ask me maths right after i couldnt answer you ^^ BUT those was see as the sign of a sickness so it was satanic)

WHOA once again ... OK... answer to many questions :

The fact if the kiss to your daughter is sexual or not ... even if a father THINK of having sex to his daughter the kiss is sexual FOR HIM... not to his daughter who dont feel the sexual intention in it... (unless the father name is Woody Allen but thats another story ^_-)

For the "nympho" term asked her ... first of all, NYMPHOMANIA is a term that doesnt exist anymore, it was a deviantion repertoried in a book back in 1700`s and no longer in use because we now know that when a woman have sex for the pleasure of it, its not because she is possess by the evil of satan. This little mistake in term now fixed, I will like to bring to your attention that its perfectly fine for a woman to have sex for the pleasure of it.

Why does a man sleeping with 50 girls is a hero and a girl sleeping with 35 guys is a "slut" ?

In response to your question, Overmann, I don`t believe that enjoying sex "too much" makes one a slut, necessarily...but it does make a nymphomaniac. It is based more on how they act on that feeling. If one chooses to engage in promiscuous sexual behavior, they may assume the title of "slut".

For example, you can enjoy sex excessively but still only engage in sexual activity with one person (i.e. a boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse). This would qualify you as a nympho, but not a slut. I would define a slut more based on the behavior of having multiple, random sexual partners... or engaging in adulterous behavior when one is married.

"Overmann, theres a difference between affection and sexual affection!"

Not in nature. Any physical affection explicitly expressed by other animals is exclusively sexual. Therefore, any distinction between affection and sexual affection is a purely human endeavor.

"So i disagree, kissing your daughter goodnight IS physically different than kissing your lover..."

You didn`t fully read into my given example, bubblebubb. I said the father secretly wishes to have sex with his daughter, meaning he doesn`t allow any inclinations to manifest themselves in a kiss lest good ol` Mum finds out. Indeed, there`s a difference between a closet feeling of love and an expressed feeling of love, and the varying levels of affection expressed inbetween.

"Your parents taking pictures of you as a kid in your bath IS NOT a attempt of pedophilia ... who dont have pictures of them naked in the bath when they was a baby ?"

There is no physical affection shared in such pictures, so no, it isn`t sexual. Did I say it was or something? All animals are born naked by default and there isn`t necessarily anything sexual about us returning to this state.

Guest5386, what difference, physically, exists when a father kisses his daughter goodnight and offers the same kiss with a secret desire to bone her? I say sexual affection doesn`t distinguish between intent; you say it does. While I can`t relate to your opinion and won`t try to change it, know that I can support my opinion just as much (if not more so) as you.

I dont think the parents are ignorant, they`re just comparing their kids to when they were that age, and it was a very different world back then. Things like "have you seen an x rated movie" kids have access to the internet now and download things, whereas the parents never had that, thinking about it they probably didnt even have VHS back then! And "have you had sex with someone from the internet" Its all alien to the parents who did things differently, so they`re not expecting thei kids to do it

In their day the message forced onto them was - "Dont have sex. Only adults can have sex. Your too young."

Nowdays its a totally opposite message - "Have as much sex as you like, just use a condom"

I dont know if that message is working or not though, seeing as around 30% teens in that poll has had unprotected sex

Whoa ... stop there ... a kiss by you sibling is NOT sexual ... can be .. but not really ...

is considerate SEXUAL : when there is SEXUAL INTENTION...

Your parents taking pictures of you as a kid in your bath IS NOT a attempt of pedophilia ... who dont have pictures of them naked in the bath when they was a baby ?
BUT
A simple hand on a shoulder or a lascive finger run on the back of someone can be sexual. How many people get turned on just by having them neck touched by them lover?

the difference is in the INTENTION... further more, if the guy pass his hand on a girl and the girl have the FEELING the guy want something sexual... then its sexual...

but if none of the people imply feel its with a sexual intention... then its not sexual... Like the naked baby pictures in bath ...

Other comment: I dont judge USA... but a place where you are allowed to carry a gun but not 2 people of same sex kiss on TV...

I guess I just cant understand ...

this test is horribly biased. you can`t just pick 100 teens and 100 adults, ask them questions about relationships and sex, and decide to judge all promiscuity in teenagers in the world! that`s statistic bias!a very small amount of people were surveyed. 200 hundred people. in manhattan, one of the largest parts of New York.

200 people! you can`t judge all parents and all teenagers with such a small number! that`s utter bullscat!

"What about kissing a parent/child/sibling etc on the cheek?"

Yes, it`s still sexual. The physical act of affection doesn`t discriminate between whatever behaviors and mental processes led up to the physical affection. I don`t think of hugging my parents as sexual, yet physically and mildly, it still is. ...Yea, I`m not a very psychologically well-adjusted individual.

"...sex is not bad, and telling kids that it is causes problems. We should be teaching kids to make responsible decisions not tracking their every move and acting like we can`t trust them."

I align myself with the European mindset. They tend to believe that sexuality and nudity is entirely natural and that violence is the vice that should be censored. Here in the States, it`s the other way around. Let your children see a guy get decapitated or disemboweled in a PG-13 movie, but God have mercy should they choose to show a female nipple.

"Just one example of why teaching abstinence only is unrealistic."

100% agreed.

"Furthermore, no woman should be labeled a slut simply because she enjoys sex. Please do not perpetuate the chauvanistic idea that only men are allowed to enjoy sex."

Would you agree, VolcomStoner, that 1. a woman (man) can enjoy sex too much and that 2. it is this behavior that qualifies her (him) as a slut?

My Mom has always openly talked to me about sex but never really told me when I could do it. She set rules for dating (couldn`t start until I was sixteen) but as for sex she just said be responsible. But I have made the decision to wait until I`m married because I know that I want to be a commited relationship so I won`t regret giving myself to someone who will dump me a month later. I believe if I wait for marriage guys won`t just be like "Oh, she`s the girl that puts out, I`ll go out with her." I`d rather be liked for me not because I give lots of sex. And I know that a lot of people in high school are doing and me and my other virginal freinds get made fun of a lot for it, but I personal don`t care, I`m not going to give into peer pressure to have sex before I`m ready because once you give it up you can never get it back, and I don`t want to regret my first ecperience, or any after that.

I`m with Guest5386 on this issue... sex is not bad, and telling kids that it is causes problems. We should be teaching kids to make responsible decisions not tracking their every move and acting like we can`t trust them. I mean congratulations to IkeRay for having such wonderful parents, but the rest of us live in the real world. My mom was taught only abstinence and never informed about sex and that`s how she ended up pregnant with me at age 16. Just one example of why teaching abstinence only is unrealistic.

I would also like to address the issue of LochNess-Abz calling that girl a slut... What grounds do you have for making that judgement? Having sex while menstruating does not make you slutty. Furthermore, no woman should be labeled a slut simply because she enjoys sex. Please do not perpetuate the chauvanistic idea that only men are allowed to enjoy sex.

I have an issue with the fact that it`s 100 students but 50 parents. If it`s fifty parents, then they`d have to have even percentages for everything (a parent can`t half a yes or no question). Also, only four of the parents were women? So this is more a survey of what FATHERS think their children are doing. There is a difference between girls talking to their mothers and boys talking to their fathers.

She knows that I gave head before... but only because she was rummaging through my stuff. And her reation on me was scary. She even threatened to move out and leave me and my brother behind with her boyfriend. =( Even worse, later she threatened to put me in a home when she found out I was bi and I did weed before. LochNess-Abz --

Actually sex is great for a woman during her period. It relieves practically all pressure and pains...not to mention it helps actually speed up the process (up to twice as fast) of her period.

You just have to have a man and a woman that are both comfortable with the idea. (oh and a guy that is gentle/patient and takes the time to bring the woman to climax to help relieve her :) )

^^^A bit too much information maybe..but it`s just another example of information that most people who are having sex (and probably shouldn`t if they don`t even know these facts) don`t even know or think about.

Ignorance drives me crazy aaaaaaaah, LOL

(oh and i`m only 23 and I`m the one that is usually giving the advice....lol (again)...it`s called researching/educating yourself peeps)

Use condoms. Sex is natural, normal and fun (when you stop thinking all those streotype that have been feed to us and do it when YOU are ready... not cause its look cool and not cause someone else think you are ready (and that include your parents) )

Sex is fun... enjoy it... Just dont die for it... Protect yoursefl.

I work with teens and I will say thats pretty accurate... No, kids not lying... maybe some ... but some wont admit things when others will just say it to look cool...

Pretty slutty to do it in her periods? Dont think so, maybe she just like it better or are affraid of getting pregnant (its a commun thing to think you cant get pregnant in your periods) What is "slutty" anyway... women having sex and liking it is not slutty -__-

for the "abstinence IS an option!" person... really hiding your head in the sand inst it?

If BUSH (god i hate that man) did make that statement not so long ago that he will not give gouvernement money to any project that dont have for main idea "abstinence" we will not be here now... how can we do prevention when we cannot name the damn thing?

Dont say "OMGF!!1! sex is BAD! you gonna get diases and DIE!!1!!"

Use condoms. Sex is fun (when you stop thinking all those streotype that have been feed to us and do it wh

^ Agreed.

By the way, if there`s 2 things I`ve learned about people in general, they are:
1) People like having sex.
2) People don`t like not having sex.

Hell, I wish I was having sex right now. But for real, the kid`s responces aren`t surprising. Peoples is gonna do teh nasty! It happens! I think making it `dirty` is the problem, so much so that they can`t talk to their clueless parents about it. THEN we have to start worrying about all these wonderful STDs, because of the lack of frankness and communication.

This makes me wanna watch Kinsey again.

Liam Neeson FTW.

im 19 and ive done 2 of those things, and not because i dont want to. hahaha, im so poo. my dad had 3 kids when he was my age. but the really disturbing thing is that if i was gay i could have done most of those things by now - ive had PLENTY of offers. i really hate it when they wont take "i`m not gay" for an answer

Why your child has not had sex
`He`s a little too immature`
Mother of a 13 year old.

Um, yes. Just a tad immature.

from lochness-abz:
"“Having sex with a girl during her period.”
HAHAHAHA xD That filled my head with...a gory image. That girl must have been pretty slutty to have done it during her period and not wait a few days later. Pffft. The guy was probably lying but its fun to take the piss ^_^"

you`re gonna ROFL at this, but when I was in high school, we were all 100% sure the only way to not get a girl pregnant was to do it during her period. =D

I think it`s pretty clear some of these kids were lying... only 57% of them admitted to `taking matters into their own hands` lol...

its really disgusting what has happened to "parents" these days. theyre afraid to be parents. they just want to be their kids friends.
kids test boundries. if they have no structure or rules, theyre all over the place.
and i understand that "just say no" may not work very well, but these people are not giving their child the choice to chose not to do it!!
abstinence IS an option!! people dont want kids to know that. as soon as they hear the word they think "Bible-Banger"
there are strains of HPV (causes/can cause anything from warts to cervical cancer) that the female body can give its self!! just by having sex with too many partners. even if you are using protection every time!!

Another thing, why is `kissed someone` separate from french-kissed?

A peck on the cheek is hardly sexual. )-|

And what`s with the damn baseball analogy?
`First base is okay, but anything else leads to a home run`?
I hate that quantitative idea. It seems so immature, and it`s the parents who are using it!

You do know, kids (or teens) lie. I`m sure most of these kids lied just to make themselfs seem bigger than they actually are.

Also, it`s not 7% had oral sex, it`s 7/100 SAY they had oral sex.

`such as smoking weed and drinking, which leads to sex in most cases`

^ Made me lol.
Another thing I found funny was the parent that said `oral, anal, whatever, it`s all still sex, [which isn`t appropriate]`.

Tee hee.

i know there was at least one parent that said yes to everything. hell, that parent might have even been the one that watched their child have sex...thats whats wrong with the youth of today, parents. parents are no longer parents. they would rather have 2 working parents and have some stranger raise their kid. the only time they see their kid is from 6-9pm, 3 hours is hardly enough time to raise a kid. so to make up for these 3 hours, the parents let the kids get away with more, such as smoking weed and drinking, which leads to sex in most cases.

that is probably why these parents didnt know anything about their kids, they dont spend time with them. my mom pried herself into my life, she knew who i was dating, and who my friends were. she knew where i was at at all times, and she had 7 other kids that she knew the same things for. thats a parent!

Things like this do not make me anxious to be a parent....but I think it will be tougher for our generation`s kids to get away with anything.

Yes they do.

How old are you?

15...16 (6 boys, 10 girls)
16...30 (21 boys, 9 girls)

I`m with SarahOfBorg. Either lots of BSing by the teens, or the parents really have thier heads in the sand (or both).
