I was wondering for a moment why the referee was playing...

Until I realised the uniforms were striped.
Yeah. >.O

"I was voting for the U.K. the whole time. It sucks that they lost."

Erm... Thanks for the support, but there is no UK team. England, on the other hand...

Didn`t Xabi Alonso score a similar one last season too? As for blaming Harper, I remember a few years ago David Seaman (When he WAS the best keeper in the world!) Letting in a similar one for Arsenal in the Champions League. These things happen.

"Can`t Europeans show any emotion in their voice whatsoever?"

Forgive me.. but.. you can detect the tone in which any person types something?

just by adding an exclamation MARK (not point) at the end of a sentence you comprehend a totally different meaning to what `Europeans` say?

wow.

I`ll take European reserved use of exclamation over the American art of whooping and hollering at every little thing anyday.

Dude: OMG, he just kicked it way up in the air...I could almost use an exclamation point in this sentance
Dude: Do not speak of such things, they might think we`re actually excited

mrbaliw, I am an american and I wonder the same thing. Why do we call it football when most of the time they are holding it? I don`t know it`s stupid. I really got into soccer this year when I watched the FIFA world cup series, I actually really enjoyed it. I was voting for the U.K. the whole time. It sucks that they lost.

"He`s second choice keeper, the first keeper nearly died after collapsing in dressing room :S"

Shay Given didnt nearly die, or indeed pass out at all.

He`ll be back with us in a month and leave Stevie Harper alone, he`s top quality, and this goal was a one in a million. (or 2 in a million if you count the luton one)

Steve Harper bailed us out in the champions league 4 seasons ago - he can do it again!

i think what really needs to be addressed at Newcastle is the defence - out of 7 defenders, stephen carr is the only half decent one.. and he wants to go.. so that leaves.. taylor (too young), bramble (AKA bumble), moore (old aussie bastard) and babayaro (wouldnt make Chelski`s 5th team.)

so LEAVE the goalie alone!

Here we go again with the football debate (quite amusing actually, always been, keep it going XD)

All I gotta say is that american football is a fun sport and all, but come on... honestly, it shouldn`t be called football at all!
Using the feet to touch the ball is football... not running around 95% of the game holding and throwing the ball.

...btw awesome goal by Xabi

"Anyway, I personaly think that was a bad goal. It was a...oh, how do they say it? Oh yes....it was a "fluke".
Or something...."

How can it be a fluke you retard? He practises those all the time. His goal before that one was with-in his own half so it is hardly a fluke.

I advise that you do your research before posting spasticated comments like that again.

That guys got some powerful legs, anyway it was the goalies fault for being off-guard.

If the goalie didnt stumble and he caught it, people would have said he wasted the shot....right?

Either way, its all bad. The goalie stumbled. James, Im sure the english version of baseball is cricket.....or baseball is a version of cricket......I dont know which one came first.

Anyway, I personaly think that was a bad goal. It was a...oh, how do they say it? Oh yes....it was a "fluke".
Or something....

Enohead it WAS amazing. I`d like to see you do better. In England we have a game called rounders, which is a girls sport in this Country. Americans have a slightly different version called baseball. We have rugby, Americans dress up in suits of armour to play the same game and call it "Football." Our football (soccer) is better than any American sport.

^^ Nah they don`t get killed, they just get tortured untill about 3seconds away from death....then they kill the keeper`s youngest child. Or they just step up the training for the keepers...but that`s a tad bit extreme!

that was pretty cool but wasn`t there a guy in these past fifa world cup series that was a goalie and kicked it into the other goalies and scored for the opposite team? I do know that there was somebody out there that did that.

YevraHNairB said "Dont they kill goalies for things like that over there?"

WTF? it`s in England stupid! Why would anyone kill a keeper for missing a shot from the other half of the pitch anyway?

awsome goal! even better for me coz I`ve got him in my Fantasy footie team so I get a load of points for that. My dad and brother are big Liverpool fans (not me. MAN UTD!!!!)and they were watching that match. I think my whole street heard my dad celebrating.

that was more luck that the keeper slipped, not hard for a pro footballer to aim at the goal now is it?

Here`s what the keeper was thinking:

"Hmm.. what`s for dinner this evening? I can`t wait for this match to be over so I can go drink. Hey, what`s going on down there? What the...?? ..........crap. Ooops. "

its not really the keepers fault because from such a distance you dont really expect a shot

Videogamer, im not sure what sort of world you live in, but here we use air filled leather balls (OK so they may not be actual leather now, but that`s beside the point). There is no way a shot from that far out would have the power to knock him into the goal, let alone break some bones. If that sort of power was possible, you think they would allow penalties from such close range?

The intelligence in this world worries me :-/

definitely the goalies fualt-- i mean, yeah, he tripped, so it wasnt like he completely sucks-- he just got caught off guard! i mean, great job seeing the opening and then placing the kick, but the goalie opened the door.

How could the goalie possibly block that? Let`s face it: the velocity from such a kick would absolutely knock him into the goal with the ball, so it would make no difference except that the goalie would get a few broken bones. Amazing shot. Undue criticism from the peanut gallery here at I.A.B.

You can`t say that the keeper tripping over was a fundamental error. He may well have got the ball otherwise.

"The keeper can`t be blamed."

Mo0k, you know nothing about football.

If any goal ever ever EVER goes in from the halfway line.. it`s a goalkeeping error

Quality player. His last goal for liverpool was in his own half aswell.
He has scored twice in a row from his own half.

The keeper can`t be blamed. Xabi was well up the pitch. Most of the time, they have ages to track back. It was great vision from the Liverpool midfielder.

the fact that it`s mostly the goalie`s fault kinda takes away from it. Great shot none-the-less.
