Am I the only person who thinks people are going just a little OTT about this?

Don`t get me wrong, he was a great guy, loved by many all over the world and his death is a tragic loss, especially for the naturalistic community. My heart goes out to his wife and children he left behind.

But to be honest, I really think people are making too big a deal about this.

I know people are gonna hate me for this post, but really.. why all the tributes and candlelight vigils and things? I don`t get it.

One of the saddest things that I heard over all this thing is this on the radio:

"The family does not know if they wish to reveal to the world the video of Steve Irwin pulling the barb out of his chest."

Meh... It`s sad to see anyone go and remember that they have a wife and kid(s).

I remember watching this guy and marveling at his deathwish; or maybe just foolhardy way to get notariety by deliberately baiting and disturbing dangerous animals for the boob tube.
He was quick agile and animal-smart to get away with it on land, but the sea is many times more unforgiving.

He was so brave and I was sure he was invincible.
Jijimar is so right. I can`t believe he`s dead, either. When I heard it on the radio I was like, Nah, it`s a different Steve Irwin/ that`s not his name/ he`s OK really, not really dead.
The way he died was really sad as well, seeing as he loved animals.

He was such a great guy, really, everything he did for the animals. While he was crazy as heck, he did good work. He was only, what, 44? My dad`s 54 and had a brush with his own mortality two weeks ago and it`s still way too young. All the same, Steve went as he lived. Even if he hadn`t pulled the barb out, he probably wouldn`t have pulled through it. It`s really sad..all of it is... RIP Steveo

I thought of Steve Irwin as the man of steel. I thought he could never die. I am always thinking that it can`t be that hes dead. Its almost impossible. When ever I watch those tribute videos, I almost begin to cry. The sadest part is that hes 44 and left behind two young kids, and a wife.

kakophony, it`s not as if they`re asking you for much. Go to the other Steve Irwin thread (news article link) and troll to your heart`s content over there, but please leave this particular thread alone for those still mourning. Dissrespect the dead if you must, just do it elsewhere.

Yeah you go screw yourselfs with your gifs making fun of his death. I hope you die in an exetremely painful way with small children still alive. I`ll be sure to go to your funeral and play a movie of a gif making fun of your death! I hope you die alone!

It makes you wonder, if Steve didn`t pull it out would he have had a chance? I`m sure not if it pierced his heart. Once the video is released, if it is released, I don`t know if I actually want to watch it. The man was a croc hunter, the invincible man, he couldn`t die. And to see the video, would be tramatizing. "Now this here is a shark. If I get too close, it`ll sense me and lunge. My reaction time is slower underwater, so I might not---CRIKEY" I wonder what his last breath was. I`m sure it was something along the lines of tell the wife and chidlren I love them, but I just can`t help but wish he went out with a bang. If I was to die, and I knew it, I know my last breath after I told the family I loved em, would be:
"And that`s why you don`t mess `round with sea critters"

Token, I agree with you. I didn`t cry so much that he was gone, because everyone passes eventually, but the fact that he was leaving behind a family and a whole bunch of friends that he was so close to.
He was a great guy and he did alot to help animals. He was a once in a lifetime kind of guy.

    May he rest in peace.

Kakophony, that guy has more balls than you EVER will. He did more for the Earth than you ever will. He did more for society than you ever will. People loved him more than people will ever love you.

If your not mature enough to realize that, then I suggest you leave, seriously, I think I speak for everyone here when I say shut the hell up.

You`d think for an 18-29 year old you`d have more respect for someone far greater than you, guess not, if anyones the freak here it`s you.

We`ll all laugh at you when your parents die, or your loved ones die, sound fair enough?

The only reason he doesn`t have a state funeral here is because the Irwin family declined it, It was offered, Steve Irwin was a great man in this Country, through his courage skill and comedy he all made us help preserve nature and it`s animals just a little bit more. He will be missed and he did not deserve to be taken so young, And every person on here who disprespects a passsing of a great man...those people who feel that they need to put something down to feel better about yourselves, the ones who can feel the envy of a better person running wild through them...I pity you and your existance amongst us.

Rest in peace steve you will not be forgotten

He wasn`t just "some crazy guy that agitated animals for the last decade." He has been a conservationalist all of his life. His idea was that if people are educated about animals, they will want to save them. When he started his first show in 1992, there were 2 shows on TV about wildlife. Now, there are 29. He owns the drating zoo in Beerwah. He actually gave a poo, his life had a purpose, and he wasn`t just another worthless celebrity. For those of you that are posting nasty pictures, and saying disrespectful things, congratulations, your purpose in life is to sit in front of a computer, making people angry. Sounds like a waste of space to me. On a lighter note, the discovery networks are continuing Steve`s legacy with the Steve Irwin Crocodile Hunter Fund, nicknamed the Crikey Fund. Heh

It`s so strange how he is so loved by so many people. I can`t think of many celebs whose death would provoke the same reaction. I loved him too. He was enthusiastic, cheeky, full of life and passionate about what he did... and yet he seemed like such a normal bloke.

For all those who are saying death to the stingray, remember, Steve loved animals and wouldn`t want one to suffer for doing what is in it`s nature to do.

I still can`t believe he is dead...

to tell you the truth, I watched his program maybe 5 times. So I cant say I "KNEW" him... or that I was a huge fan. But, I respected him for what he was, a man who truely loved animals. He had the courage to stand infront of giant animals and play with them... something no lesser man can do.

Shame on you Emma. To be embarassed by a man who was not afraid to be real. He loved what he did, loved all wildlife even the ugly crocs. Loved his country and was so proud to be Australian. Made the rest of the world want to go there to see all the natural wonders. Made us realize all Aussies weren`t adulterers and womanizers like the other so called "stars" from down under.
He was a decent guy with a lot of enthusiasm, so what if he didn`t have a Posh accent. Big Deal! He was one of your best and if that embarasses you TOUGH!
