This is why you should never get back in your car while pumping gas. Could have been much worse.

What in the hell is Brainiac?

It isn`t just some random show cashing in on the Mythbusters-esque "I`m going to recreate and answer questions that you`re too stupid to do for you in a televised show" idea, is it?

all thos epeople who said "stupid americans" and stuff... why do we really care which country is "the best"? I mean, it`s just another reason for us to hate each other. I`m not a weird hippy, but once you think about it, it`s kinda stupid.

I can`t believe how dumb alot of you are. Yes, fire needs oxygen or it can`t burn. Light a candle, then put a glass that`s bigger than the candle over it, and it`ll go out. And you should NEVER pull the gas pump out if it catches on fire. If you do, the gas will STILL STAY LIT and it will turn the whole thing into one giant flame thrower. I`ve seen video of this on the news (and MythBusters) plenty of times. And I`m sure lots of us would run and scream, that`s a given. Just don`t say stuff when you don`t know what you`re talking about.

I actually think the woman remained relatively calm for her situation...

I mean sure its easy to go
"ROLFLAMOBBGFTWPFRTW! I would have done the Chuck Noris thing and inhaled all the oxygen around the gas station to put the fire out!"

when in reality 90% of all the people would have sh.it their pants in this situation.

Just out of curiosity... for all those people who went on
"Stupid Americans ... cant handel the pump!"
"Lazy Americans etc, etc"
"Americans Etc, Etc"

How the drat do you know its an American?

You cant even see the licence plate, sure it says "Pump 1 & 2" in the side, but that may just as well be because its an American Surveillence system.

Mythbusters busted the cell phone myth. Static electricity build-up is a scientifically provable bit.
And it`s not problem if you get back in your car, as long as you make absolutely sure you`ve touched the vehicle WELL away from the filler nozzle, to eliminate static.
They say older folks rarely have that problem, mostly because they grab the frame and the door to help themselves up when exiting the car...

It`s Incredible How People Are Calling This Woman Stupid. The First Thing I Would Of Done If I Was This Woman Was To Take The Pump Out To, Screw Ruining My Car! And Then Yeah, Run Like Hell. (Either To Avoid An Explosion Or Get Someone To Help) So Don`t Call The Woman Stupid, She Was In Shock. And I Really Wish People Would Stop Calling Americans Stupid. Get Over The Stereotypical Labels And Grow Up, Morons.

My car does that (not the fire part). Whenever I get out of the driver`s seat (for some reason it doesn`t do it when I`m in the passenger seat), I get a little charge, so when I touch the metal part on the lip of the window, I get a little shock. I have to hold the metal part while getting out to stay grounded.

Holy. poo. Caaaaalllllmmmmm Dooooooowwwwwnnnn.

Why is she dumb? She made a mistake, a fire happened, she wasn`t sure how to react, so she ran, presumably to get help from someone who would know what to do. THAT`S smart. I don`t know if anyone`s been in a situation like that, but I`m pretty sure it`s freaky as heck...if something I was doing burst into flames I`m positive my first thought wouldn`t be, "Hmm...I seem to remember Myth Busters totally did this on one of their shows..."

please. It`s not a matter of country. It`s not a matter of stupid. God, it`s just a funny video. Laugh. Jeez.

WTF?! DANGEROUS TASK!? Oh daaaamn, I`m laughing so hard. Yeah. Sooo dangerous. So is brushing your teeth, England. For serious, dangerous!

As for her LOOKING STUPID... HOW DOES SOMEONE LOOK STUPID? It`s impossible to look stupid because stupidity is intangible and based on your intelligence, not your looks.

I worked at a gas station for 2 years and we had to remove the pins because of idiots who get in their cars and don`t discharge before touching the pump. *sigh* it would`ve been nice to have this video ready every time someone yelled at me because I had to shut off their pump when they jammed their gas cap in the handle.

About the gas pumping thing...In certain states the pins have been removed to prevent overflow. Obviously the pump doesn`t cap off everytime or else they wouldn`t have had the pins removed. I don`t know about every other state, but in NY it`s removed. In NJ, it`s actually against the law to pump your own gas. Because they`re not enough jobs in the state they designate jobs like authorized fuel dispersal attendant (or a similar titled). This is true because my driving instructor is also a top official for NYS.

Also, she should have been more careful with the wool sweater. I have a deerskin jacket with a double lining of wool and fur I used to get shocks so bad not I could feel it past my shoulder. Good thing I never wore it while pumping gas.

Hey Technology allows us to leave it running on it`s own if we want. (I usually clean my windshield with the squeegee if they have them up for people to use)

According to some of the people on here...... Technology=Lazy

Therefore you must think the Japanese are much more lazy than the rest of the world.

James838, it is not that all American`s are lazy. That would be like saying all German`s are nazi`s which simply isn`t true.

And FYI on most Full Serve pumps here in Massachusetts (Note how I do not generalize by saying America) they have the metal pin which lets you leave the pump. However on the Self Serve pumps they do not have that.

You would not like it if I said that you must have bad teeth because you are from England, as I do not like it when you generalize and stereotype against Americans.

Yes, she should have touched the car first, yes she should not have left her car, but that does not certainly mean that all Americans do that. In fact, I have never seen someone leave thier pump unattended like that, unless it is a Full Service station.

I am not saying that people do not leave thier pumps unattended, as they obviously do, I am just saying that it is not common practice here, so do not generalize and say it is.

wtf do you expect when you are moving around in the perfect static electricity weapon?

its like she was rubbing the sweater on purpose to get more static! haha

I agree with tinkerbellio. It takes me a grand total of three minutes to fill my tank up. Like its such a HUGE waste of time to supervise flammable gas being pumped into your vehicle.

BTW About the Mythbusters Cell Phone Myth being BUSTED...

They needed to actually TOUCH the phone and ANSWER it to detonate the explosion. Hey, a pretty ringtone doesn`t start a fire...a HAND does however.

Some gas stations you do have to hold it down, but most have a metal pin that lets you set the pump rate and just leave it, although I never walk away...I just let it pump while I stand there..lol.

The pump automatically shuts off and the handle releases itself when the gas tank is full....do the tanks in europe not have that option??

Marram, looks like I touched a nerve there. To be fair pumping gas is quite a dangerous task. Surely you would need your full attention on the job. So is eating a burger and fries while disposing of a bomb considered multi tasking too? Or driving a truck and watching tv? Think about what you say before you leave such aggressive remarks...

Tinkerbellio, it`s called multitasking. I know you might not be able to do it but if I am busy, I sure as hell pump my gas and do whatever needs to be done in the car. Maybe she was searching for her money to pay for it? Maybe she was cleaning the car out? I`ve done it before, listened to music while the gas pumped and I searched for money. So before you make stupid comments, think about the things that she could have been doing

she did run away. and I laughed because, like chikoori said, you`re not supposed to pull the hose out (because that`s where the flammable stuff comes from). holding onto it while you try and make sure your car`s paint is ok isn`t the best idea either.
