Actually the speed of sound depends on the temperature... i think the formula is 332 + 0.6(t) in meters a second and degrees celcius :) go metric!
The freakiest thing about light by far though is that whole frame of reference thing. If you shoot a light beam and accelerate to the speed of light, the light beam would still be travelling away from you at the speed of light. No matter what speed you hit, you can`t pass it and it`ll always move away at the speed of light.

Thats pretty awesome, ive actually been at an air show where they had one of the Blue Angels breaking the sound barrier, we had to stand pretty far back, but it was awesome.

smagboy you cannot break the speed of light you can only approach it and as you get get nearer to it time sees to slow. simple as the theory of reletivity XD

Looks kind of fishy. And in the first and last one it looks like he`s going through a cloud. If it`s true, cool! :-)

761 miles per hour. So very very fast.

It isn`t photoshopped, none of them are. That is actually what it looks like when the sound barrier is broken. I hate it when people slap "photoshop" on something when it looks SLIGHTLY out of the ordinary.

This phenomenon is called a Prandtl-Glauert Singularity. It is formed just before a sonic boom, when the sweeping air around the vehicle pressure and temperature drops low enough to allow water vapour to imediatley condense into droplets as a fine mist.

I don`t think it`s photoshoped. It looks like the jets flew through clouds.

considering the speed that the aircraft were travelling, it is really a diffifult job to get those pictures

That is cool...Im surprised that it hasn`t been featured much in movies. You would think that would be cool to see in a Top Gun type of movie

So, I wonder what happens when you break the speed of light? Put that in your F-16 and smoke it, Maverick! :-)

I wish i was the pilot. If I was, it would just end up being one of those things you say at an old folks home, but really cool nevertheless

I don`t reckon they were created in photoshop (apart from the first one) however, i do think that they may possibly enhanced the images with photoshop.

I just would like to point out that as the plane aproaches and crosses the sound barrier, you see cloud like formations such as in the pictures. Although the formations are present much longer than just at the moment when the barrier is crossed.

goaliejerry, sadly someone is going to add the usual "This is photoshopped...pixels...blah" statement regardless of your comment. Unfortunately, it has become the lastest message board phenomenon.

Before anyone says anything, its not photoshopped. I love reality, nothing blows the mind quite like it.
