Usually roads like that have servicemen who control the traffic on either side, so that the traffic flows in one direction during one half of the day, and the other direction in the other half.

But that`s still ridiculously insane.

I went on a road kinda like that once, it was in New Mexico. It scared the crap out of me, but we didn`t see another car the whole time we were on it. It`s out in the middle of nowhere.

Clear it of those trucks and busses, give me a rear-wheel-drive sports coupe, and I`d drive it `till you took away the carkeys. Mountian roads are fun.

I`m actually from Bolivia (I was born in La Paz and moved to the states when I was about 9). That road is real....no tampering. I actually drove on it a few times. It takes you over the mountains into neighboring countries, which is why there are so many trucks on it...its the major way we get stuff in and out of the country. And yes, people do die all the time on that road.

If you live in AZ you may know of the trail I`m talking about ^^ from Mingus Mountain down to Cherry and then Camp Verde.

I miss AZ so much.

hehe. I remember taking an offroad trail similar (but a bit more narrow) on the side of a mountain in Arizona and coming across an RV stranded. I had to help them BACK UP for 4 hours. It seems they thought it was just a shortcut to the interstate.

I`ve been on roads just like that one, except they were in Colorado and there wasn`t any greenery. Pretty freaking scary.

You think that`s bad? In the northern side of Cyprus, we were driving to the Bellapais Abbey (Its really high, when we went the low cloud was around our ankles) we had to drive up this mountain bit, but it was only about as wide as the average driveway and there weren`t any barriers... and we were in a 4x4.

my cousin went on a explorer trek thingy with her school to bolivia and had to pass that road in a minivan twice...and the tour guide was apparently extremely helpful in informing them that only 6 people had died that year. It was March...
