I think you are all missing the point. These mutations are more than likely caused by man screwing up the environment. Who knows what toxic dump leaked into nature and caused a lot of this mayhem. Did you know that the sea otters off of the pacific coast of the US and Canada are dying from a disease found in the feces of housecats? People are flushing the cat scat down the john and sewage treatment plants do not kill the disease. The otters are dying at such a rate that the scientists studying the problem think they will be extinct in the wild real soon. Isn`t mankind great. The more we "progress" the more we destroy. Wish I could think of an easy answer to the problelm, maybe one of you young people will be able to get this world to sit up and take notice and turn things around. My generations sure as hell didn`t do any good.

Laura, sounds like you`re a typical hippie. You look at the pictures and immediately blame mankind for what you see. The only one that man can be responsible for is Mike the Chicken and I don`t consider that to be a deformity, just an odd occurance. But there have been deformed people, animals and even plants for as long as there have been people, animals and plants. It`s just that Mother Nature is a biatch sometimes.

Poor animals. It`s mostly messed up due to genetics and DNA that causes such mutations. The only thing that was caused by "mankind" was Mike the headless chicken.

Like someone commented earlier, this also happens to humans.

i don`t want to be a bitch, cause we DO mess up the enviroment (sp?), but most of these things are caused by normal hormones in over/underdose. by adding a protein called `sonic` (i thought it was) something like the face is pulled further outward, creating 2 faces, like the two faced cat on this page. creatures like that cat, five legged cow, the two-tongued cat, three headed turtle and the seven-legged frog are probably caused by this protein under/overdose. i don`t know about the two-mouthed fish, but the other cats (the octopussy and the conjoined) are just variations on siamese twins (i think)

Mankind can`t be blamed for all those mutations. Some of them are caused by us, and the toxic waste we dump into bodies of water certainly could have contributed to the deformities in the fish, frogs, etc. However, mutations are often random occurences in the genes that are not even influenced by the environment. What happened to the cats, for example, was probably caused while the cats were developing from zygotes.

Its not that weird when you`ve heard the full story of it, it was real but there was a pretty simple explantion.. i remember reading about it somewhere.. either the brain was still left intact when it was beheaded.. or the part of the brain responsible for movement wasnt cut off... or something like that. It didnt live that long after either.. how the heck would it have been able to eat without a mouth :|

Okay, I`m just going to say now...
Yes, part of this is nature, and yes, part of this is probably caused by things that could`ve been preventable. I`m not saying that all deformaties are human`s fault, but some of them are. We have to admit to ourselves, being a species that changes the world so dramatically, we do have an effect on other animals in the world. Not everything is our fault, no, but a lot of it is.
Now, onto the pictures... Those are just sad. It`s also sad how they called the siamese cats (the litter) `monsters`. It`s not their fault. It`s pathetic. Poor creatures, born into the world, probably in pain, and then just die. It`s probably better that they died.
My mom works with newborns who are immature or sick, and it`s really sad how some of them are. This just reminds me of them.

Attention Cruxshadows. Yes, humans are born deformed as well, and that is pretty well caused by some type of pollution or contamination as well. Have you heard of Chernobyl? 3 mile Island?
Toxic waste? All byproducts of human "progress" and all caused terrible things to happen to man and animal.

Malformations are caused by damaged chromosomes. Yes this is in the genes. But what the heck do you think causes a gene to have damaged or missing chromosomes in the first place. 89% of the time it is the effect of something in the mother and or fathers environment. Come on young people do some research. Mankind has caused enormos changes to his environment, more in the last 200 years than in the previous 10,000 years. We have to acknowledge this before we can change our ways, and if we don`t change our ways we are not doing ourselves or our children any favours. NO I was not a hippy, I was married at 16 and had 3 children by 19 and was divorced by 21. I was to busy trying to survive and give my children a decent upbringing to even think about anything else. It wasn`t until they were grown and gone I had the time to read and watch nature programs etc. That got me wondering just how bad things really were, surely, I thought, these scientist are exaggerating.

And started researching and found countless studies all showing the same results. Now I have 9 grandchildren and you better believe I am concerned about the future of this planet. I have a very precious investment in it. I am expecting a great-grandchild now, and I can`t help but wonder what lies ahead for him or her.
Things are worse than you think. The changes I have seen in our climate are very noticable Here in BC. What was your climate like 50 years ago. How has it changed? Do you have more extreme conditions now> floods? hurricanes, storms Ice storms? More heat waves?

Q: Why can you never trust a fish?
A: Because sometimes they`re two faced! /bad joke and immaturity

Mutations happen all the time, and, depending on your beleifs, it could be what created us. Sometimes it just goes for the extreme I guess.

Also, I remember I once read an article about conjoined things. Sometimes the egg in the womb doesn`t split completely for whatever reason, and what would be a complete twin is now an extra part, or the twin is attached. Whether it`s natural or not is up for you all to discuss.

Attention Laura092. Why Are You Even Bothering To Rant About The Environment? You Really Think All Of These Animals Are Deformed Because Of Some Kind Of Human Mistake? Deformaties Are Bound To Happen. It`s Human Nature. Deformaties Would Happen No Matter How Clean The Environment Is.

Yeah the chicken survived for ages, it survived for so long because the part of the brain the is responsible for breathing and all that poo was still intact, it was fed with an eyedropper, and was taken around the country as a sideshow deal, it finally died when it choked on it`s own mucus when the farmer didn`t hear it making a gurgle sound during the night, and therefor didn`t clean it out like he usually did.

My generations sure as hell didn`t do any good."

    Please shut up...just stop.

The headless chicken story neither belongs in that list nor sounds like it could happen. Someone mentioned something about the owner feeding it through a tube, but that doesn`t sound likely. The chicken would have run around for a few minutes after losing its head, but it would have died from blood loss.

baphomet73, if your going to complain about Bush do it intelligently. Bush`s pooty ecological stance has nothing to do with red ear sliders in malaysia or house cats. Shut up.

There was a pet store we used to go to when i was little, that recently got closed (new manager and peta non-nice individuals where always there), used to sell one ore two 2 headed turtles every year, apparently 2 heads are a common mutation in turtles, its just that most die. @bubblebubb (page3); the chicken did survive for a long time, the farmer put on a show around him :-P . it survived because the lower part of the brain (which is responsable for uncontrolled movement like the heart and stuff like controlling the amount of important stuff in the blood) was left intact. the chicken was fed corn right into his throat, so it didn`t die of starvation

Laura, I agree with you. You`re not a hippy, just an extremely environmentally aware person. This world needs more people like you. Our actions ARE affecting the world in a very negative way. Our progress is the disintegration of the Earth. If we were all to die today, Earth would take its natural toll, and overcome the planet with it`s own power. We really are not needed here, we are here for certain reasons..but yea, we are messing up Earth in many, many different ways.

Just know that the people who frequent these sites, especially the younger children, do not understand anything. They are too busy acting like adults (sadly, the adults are nothing to imitate these days...them being complete idiots themselves for the most part.)
Oh, and they are too busy having babies, abortions, doing drugs, learning tricks on their skateboards, and eating at fast food joints.

Yea, this world is headed down hill, but I`m one of the people who realizes this, and I`m glad you do as well..
