no, it is a real concept. The university of tokyo came out with it 4! years ago. There is a small coating over a slightly opaque bead, after lots of tinkering they finaly got it so the light bended enough around the cloak so that you would see the light coming in from the back side. This COULD be a camera tricked version, but probably isn`t. The opaqcity has caused an inverse increase of the blue shift in the object creating a BLUE tint. If you could listen the sound going through it would also be slightly distorted.

I read about that. It has cameras imbedded in the fabric that take pictures of the surroundings and then project them.

It`s a camera suit. It`s not a green screen, or a blue screen, or a projector. It is real technology built into the jacket. I saw an article on this a couple years back in some magazine. So here`s to everyone shutting up now, okay?

flows virtually undisturbed around a smooth rock.

It would not simply block out light, or prevent its reflection, as in conventional "stealth" technology. Whatever direction it is viewed from, the light bending round the hidden object would make it appear to have vanished, reports Telegraph.

Metamaterials are composite structures that deliberately resemble nothing found in nature. They are engineered to have unusual properties, such as the ability to bend light in unique ways."

"Two separate teams of researchers have come up with theories on ways to use experimental "metamaterials" to cloak an object and hide it from visible light, infrared light, microwaves and perhaps even sonar probes.

Professor John Pendry, from Imperial College London, said that it may not take long to develop an invisible fabric - assuming there is sufficient research into the technology.

"If there is adequate funding, I`d have thought it would take in the order of five years," he said.

"You could build a shed out of this material and drive a tank in there, or a motor car, or hold a party inside it, and once you close the door everything it contains would be completely invisible."

The key to the invisibility cloak is "metamaterial" exotic composite material made using nanotechnology that can change the direction of electromagnetic radiation.

Light waves would flow around an object hidden inside the metamaterial cloak just as water

So i didnt know every day people had them, this really does just look like projectors working together.. But in National Geographic a few months ago they ran an article on inovations on the front line... showing soldiers in the types of uniforms they are now designing. Where the fabric has a microscopic camera on the rear of the person and will change the fabric on the front to match that on the back. When the article was released each full uniform(including helment) cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and was too heavy for use now, they are designing lighter ones.

Sorry to bore you, I realize this was just a projecter or transparent image placement, but it reminded me of the article..

it doesnt have to be a projector and camera...you can do this with vegas. just place 2 vids so that they run at the same time, and turn the opacity of the top one done until u can see "thru" it. i`ll post one if i stop procrastinating ;)

Idiot. You obviously don`t know how a green screen works.

Anyway, maybe it is a projector, but a green/blue screen is a perfectly valid explanation as well.

No, that is a jacket that will go out for sale in 2008. I saw i in a magazine. There is a tiny tiny camera built into the back of his jacket, and the jacket is made of tiny fiber optic things that show what the camera sees. And no, they are not using a green screen, so all you idiots who said that are, well, idiots. Look it up.

-maybe a camera behind him was connected to a projector in front of him?-

I`m with this guy. If it was green screen, it would be a lot more distorted in the wrinkled areas of his coat. Not to mention the picture on him would be the same opacity of what was playing behind him. And if it was just a projection onto a screen behind him, we`d probably see a shadow.

-Insert really smart explanation here.-

That`s one of the better posts I`ve seen on IAB.

I agree with KMeTG. Or maybe they filmed the truck, then filmed the guy, and put the two pictures together on top of one another. But the video screams "FAKE".
0
Reply
Male 1,265
Oh for drat`s sake, he`s standing in front of a camera and the camera is hooked to a projector and the projector displays the image on his cloak.

Hell, you can even see the distortion when the red van drives behind him. The "real" front fender is split from the "projected" fender because his cloak and real life are 2 different perspectives.

Well they have almost had a succesful project for a cloaking device, but it`s a solid box.

It doesn`t bend light at all, just reflects the opposite image onto another surface or something...

It doesn`t bend any light at all, FS. It is, however, a camera that takes images from behind the person. Its a reflective suit not much different than a projection screens and car reflecters, just able to pick up all hues of color. This video is old, however, the newer makes have become far more `invisible.`
