Look at Texas! Yee-haw! We`re mostly steak-eating, redneck fatasses anyway. No, it`s true. I live there. It really is sad. I mean, if you go to... hmm, let`s say, a mall, there are soooo many overweight people... about 3/5 people at the mall on a busy day are obese. I really do feel bad. I mean, I live in the 2nd fattest city in the US... or perhaps the world? I`m not sure though, Houston could be #1 now. It and Detroit are neck and neck.

    we are fat because;
    1,we`ve grown lazy
    2,the food has grown worse
3,and our portion sizes have just grown
also, we hardly know the meaning of the
word fresh anymore, the idea of walking
to work is alien to us now with how far
we live from our jobs (30 min drive for me)
and we try fad diets that don`t work instead
of changing the fundimental way we eat.

    ok rant over |-(

I cant get my head around why 60% of americans are overweight.... what is so hard about eating less?! Its pretty basic stuff here..

Stuff your face = you will get fat
Eat NORMALLY = you wont get fat

So what if there`s a mcdonalds on every street corner, no-ones making you go in there. Theres a little thing called "soil" where fruit and veg grow, you can buy these at your local store.. now go eat some real food!

Its not the fact that obese people put their life in danger that makes me angry, i couldnt give a damn if they decide to eat themselves to death. Its the fact that half the population of the world are starving and theres morons around eating their own weight in food, its ridiculous.

I`m American and I was fat. I moved to Europe and I got skinny. It`s the water here. ;-) Actually, all the data shows Europe catching up quite quickly to the US. I think it`s a function of modern life--computers, game systems, TV, personal autos versus bikes or walking, etc.

Does everyone in Europe and Canada and all those other countries really think that they are doing better than America? Newsflash: YOU`RE NOT. We are an obese WORLD, not one country is less obese than the other (with some exceptions i.e. Ethiopia :P). People need a stereotype for Americans and since fast food started here and whatnot, we were the perfect stereotype for being obese.

I`m 4` 11``. My BMI is 19, which is normal for a person like me. Millions of Americans are just like me. We are not all obese. Realize that and stop stereotyping Americans. I know that in England you have fast food, because I`ve been there and there are just about as many obese people as there are in America. Stop stereotyping us.

Ok, I`m in Arkansas. We are in "the red." Not surprising really, you know southeren hospitality and what not. People down here EAT. But I honestly don`t run into that many obese looking people is the thing. So I wonder where they are all hiding at.

I`m 5`8" and the last time I had a BMI done it was 17%, which actually puts we at underweight. Though I`m not if you go by what I weigh, 132lbs. The reason there wasn`t any fat to pinch would be that I excersie and have muscle on me.

I know just saying get out there and excerise is easier than actually getting out there and doing it though. You gotta break your habits, grab a friend and do it together, it is easier that way.

BMI is a joke. It doesn`t take into account muscle mass and other factors. I`ve seen plenty of skinny people who are technically "obese".

Yes, I am aware that America has the highest ratio of fat people, but then again, the only reason such a fact matters to most people is because it is a negative statistic pinned on America. If Yugoslavia or some other random-*ss country had a 99% ratio of fat people, you wouldn`t hear jack sh*t about it, except for:

"The U.S. remains one of the nations with the highest obesity rate, shadowed only slightly by <insert country here>. Blahblahblah America blahblah it`s all Bush`s fault blahblahblah Amerikkka sucks blahblah..."

On another note: Who cares? If you are really hellbent on "killing the fatties", then you have some serious issues. You can`t tell me your life is so perfect that you can ignore your own problems and worry about everyone elses, can you? Must be nice.

the fact that we are the most obese country is not stereotyping, it`s fact based on multiple analysises size verses wieght, granted bmi doesn`t take into account muscle wieght but there are many tests out there that show how much actual fat a person has.

stop living in a fairyland of denial. if you want to be fat so be it, but don`t say "oh the whole world is fat so stop stereotyping us" it sound to much like a copout.

by the way; me thinks he doth protest to much

The USA is the only place in the world where the poor are fat. Society brainwashes the poor, with high-sugar,high- salt, and high-fat diets, and healthy doses of TV. Keeps them in check. So, eat your happy meal, pepsi, and doritos, watch TV, and keep being a sedentary sack of non-thinking doodie.

Fat people can still eat like a pig if they wanted to if they just werent so lazy. Unless they eat at mcdonalds everyday, if anybody`s reading this and they eat fast food every day STOP!!!!!!!!! It sickens me to see someone rollin around in an electric scooter not because their handicaped, not because they`re old, because they are too lazy

Not only laying off the fast food, but just eating more slowly helps so much. We always gobble down our food and ask for seconds, but when you take the time to enjoy your food, you eat so much less. My husband and I used to eat in front of the tv all the time, now it`s like a rule in our house that the tv doesn`t go on while we`re eating. I know it sounds kind of weird, but it really does help because you`re more concentrated on your food, not just shoveling it in.

I know that in England you have fast food, because I`ve been there and there are just about as many obese people as there are in America. Stop stereotyping us.

The high obesety wait in britain is in Wales not England. Yes we do have fastfood in England but we have something called THE FAT TAX

I eat what I want, which includes a mixture of healthy (fruits and veggies) and unhealthy (soda, candy, fast food) and the only exercise I get is when I choose to walk around and sex, and yet my BMI is normal. (23-ish, as a woman`s weight changes between 5-10 pounds on average in a month) So, as long as you eat what you want, but include healthy stuff, I guess it won`t make you fat. I`m a size 10 on average, but everyone says that I look skinnier. So if you do what I do, you`ll be ok!

What I find most interesting is everyone commenting on here about their BMI and assuring everyone that it`s the other people who are fat, not them. Just because we live in america doesn`t mean we`re all fat. it just means there`s a greater likelihood that we are.
