"Pretty dumb list. A fetish is a mental disorder?"

Fetishim, like a lot of sexual disorders is a disorder if it causes distress to the person or interferes with the person living his or her life "normally". So, if you have a fetish for shoes, for example, that`s not necessaryily a mental disorder unles it really bothers you or you cannot control yourself around shoes.

Likewise, just because you see yourself reflected a little in the description of some of these disorders doesn`t mean that you have a mental disorder. Many mental disorders are exaggerations, if you will, of "normal" behaviour. We all, for example, ocassionally obsess over something or feel compelled to double check that the stove is turned off....that doesn`t mean that we have obsessive compulsive disorder.

Münchhausen-by-proxy syndrome is NOT what`s described here, it is when a person uses a third party, most commonly a child`s illnesses to draw attention to themselves. In mild cases the person suffering from MbP simply lies about the third part`s symptomes to get them committed to hospital care, in severe cases the MbP-sufferer can even poison the victim to get the attention of doctors and others. SERIOUSLY scary stuff.

See "Sickened" by Julie Gregory, a true story.

^I thought it was Janice too!!

Anyways, I was suprised the list didn`t include the Pica disorder.

"Pica is an appetite for non-foods (e.g., coal , soil , chalk , etc.) or an abnormal appetite for some things that may be considered foods , such as food ingredients (flour, salt etc)"

Cazreen, the reason many people here say that they have trichotillomania is because it`s a lot more common than most people think. Studies have shown that 1 in 50 experience it in some form during their life, a lot of times in their teens.

"I have Trichotillomania. It`s not THAT bad... I just don`t have eyelashes."

It can be very bad for some people. Your case clearly isn`t very severe. I have the disorder. When I first had it, it was restricted to the eyelashes like with you. Then it went dormant for years and came back with a vengence. I spent a year with about 1/3 of my head bald. And I`ve met people with much more hair loss. So you`re lucky, but not all of us are. :)

Hm...I don`t think I come close to having anything on that list. Maybe biblomania, but not to a point where I think I have some disorder. I just like buying lots of books is all. i also read them, of course...-cough-
The one thing I KNOW I have that`s not on this list is acrophobia. Fear of heights. I`d rather be blown to smithereens than stand on top of a ladder. That`s how extreme I get xD

Stop saying you have these disorders. These are serious, and you would have noticed them before you read this article. Just because you think a celebrity is hot doesn`t mean you have celebriphilia. Just because you subconsciously pull out a hair or two from time to time doesn`t mean you have Trichotillomania. And just because you`re a bit superstitious doesn`t mean you have Triskaidekaphobia.

We actually learned about the Dr. Strangelove syndrome in psych, although not by that name. It`s mostly common in people that had seizures but in order to stop the seizures they had to cut the corpus callosum and so the two sides of the brain didn`t communicate. It`s kinda cool when thought about from the neuralogical angle.

It`s hypochondriac.
There can be a phobia of just about anything, peoples minds work in different ways and anyone can fear anything. So don`t go saying it`s stupid or made up.
And I think the celebrity one is more about a fixation with wanting to sleep with them. And Munchausens is real serious, along with Munchausen by Proxy when someone will make another think they are ill and forces them to lie about symptoms they have, etc etc. There`s a book wirrten by a sufferer I read whilst in America, I can`t think of the title now =/

Celebriphilia: pathological desire to have sex with a Celebrity

How is that a mnetal disorder? Finding a celeb attractive is a mental disorder? I thought that was the whole point of them.

Foreign accent syndrome: speaking your language with an accent

That was on Richard and Judy last week I think. Someone from Newcastle had a stroke and then woke up and had a Jamacian accent. So tough to have, yet weird at the same time.
