im sorry to say this but we do know whats right and wrong. stupid librals
When it comes to the ten commandments... most people can probably agree that having moral edicts such as `Thou shalt not kill` and `Thou shalt not steal` are general guidelines that everyone can agree upon. The graven images and blasphemy are a little more specific to the christian faith. The source of these laws only becomes important where the separation of church and state are concerned here in the United States. Yes it`s an important part of our democracy, and yes there will always be people that want to change it. Fortunately we also have another part of our Constitution that allows for open discourse like our enlightened little forum here.
"thou shalt not covet thy neighbors wife."
i mean, wtf???
when these were made, you didnt marry for sex or love, you married for business (i.e. combining the parents wealth)
these people obviously dont know about separation of church and state...
thats how they passed some stupid law here in WA...
saying that pharmacists could deny `morning after` pills based on moral values... had they said religious beliefs, then they wouldntve gotten it...
but they found a loophole...
morale: dont get laid in washington and not use a condom or birthcontrol, because if you try to get the morning-after pill, you might not get it...
Forget the da Vinci code, Christianity is in fact based on the chronicles of a self-contradicting hypocritical God, recorded decades and sometimes centuries after the fact by people who mostly weren`t there.
I hope someone can understand what i`m trying to get across before you all start flaming me
So, once again, you`ve not answered any question nor have you advanced any points. Your pathetic attempt and sarcasm only belies your own points.
Now, have you a point to make--or do you want to ask more red herring-questions? Can you prove, beyond any doubt, that morality is on this supposed "grey scale?"
I`ll wait while you Google, child.
Thank you for truth, kiwi01315
That`s what most people don`t understand. It`s generalizing an entire group of people becuase of the actions of a few. That`s like saying all Germans are Nazis, because, guess what? They aren`t!
Or that all Americans are arrogant and stupid. Some people think that. You know who you are.
"People should forget about the commandments and just follow the LAW...DUH, i mean seriously ppl its the 21rst century...GET WITH IT"
Where do you think the law we have now came from?
"without religion the world would be a much better place seeing as how more evil things are done in the name of religion than for any other reason"
I really hate this attitude. People always think of the negative things that people have done with religion. Religions themselves...or at least Christianity...doesn`t tell you to go out and kill people or whatever. PEOPLE do bad things, not religions. In the end, evil is caused by bad PEOPLE who would`ve done bad things with or without religion backing them up.
You`re a funny guy, I enjoyed playing your game!:->
Do you mean `murdered` or `killed`?
"I suppose Hitler`s okay in your book?"
Did Hitler act alone?
"Since when does `diversity` have anything to do with right and wrong? Huh? Red herring, anyone?"
diversity: 1)The fact or quality of being diverse; difference. 2)A point or respect in which things differ.
Meaning people have a different view on what is right and what is wrong. Too bad you`re so stupid that I have to spell everything out for you.... yep... a damn shame. OH WELL!
"The fact that we disagree about something doesn`t mean that right & wrong don`t exist. Wow. You seem woefully ignorant of any kind of ethical philosophy."
You seem woefully ignorant of even being able to read. Please point out where I said "right and wrong don`t exist"?...*cough*...Yeah, I thought as much. I said that moral values EXIST on a
Yet another willful demonstration of ignorance. Hyperbole as well as sophistry and equivocation. If you can`t argue and don`t know the rules of logic, then you don`t have a position and your opinion is nothing short of infantile mutterings.
Point? The fact that we disagree about something doesn`t mean that right & wrong don`t exist. Wow. You seem woefully ignorant of any kind of ethical philosophy. Have you read Kant`s Critique of Pure Reason? You may want to check it out. It may wake you from your dogmatic slumber.
When a loved one or family member is killed, tell me that "morality is gray." This garbage about right and wrong being a matter of perspective is not only misleading; it`s evil. I suppose Hitler`s okay in your book? Chairman Mao?
Since when does "diversity" have anything to do with right and wrong? Huh? Red herring, anyone?
That`s because he`s God. He gets to do what He wants to do. You don`t. Too bad. When you`re divine, call me back.
Also, when you`ve actually read the Old Testament and not merely websites, let me know. Then we can talk. Until then, you`re a tourist whose opinion doesn`t count.
Also, many of His punishments go against His own commandments. If a woman is raped and she`s not married, her attacker has to marry her because he`s defiled her. Yet if the victim is married or betrothed (engaged), both she and her attacker are to be stoned to death outside the city walls.
The 10 commandments are too open for moral debate. Sometimes it`s right to kill someone - if they themselves have killed, for example - and God permits and even commands this at one point but not at others.
Point being, religion is too contrived.
Ignorance is bliss, isn`t that right bigoldjeffry.
The concept of "Right" and "Wrong" are not written in stone (pardon the pun), but are mere perspectives and opinions. Hence a little thing called "Diversity". You could say that killing another human being is globally accepted as "wrong". Is it? Does EVERY human being on the planet agree with what you or I may have to say on that issue? Hot topics like euthanasia, abortion, capital punishment, war, and so on, show how morals are on a grey scale and not black and white.
Anyways, the way Colbert and Stewart crop interview footage is always good for a laugh. If the man seriously didn`t know the commandments, the irony is delicious... yet pathetic and despairing.
I wonder where on earth you`d get the idea that people need religion in order to "tell them what`s right and wrong."
We all know what`s right and wrong.
And before you start in what that "all Christians are stupid LOLzors!11!!," think how stupid you must seem, to believe in your own observations alone--you, the sole creator of the universe.
So, go ahead, assume that all theists are stupid.
But first alk to Cardinal Newman. Talk to Augustine. Go ahead and chat it up with Karl Barth. Don`t forget Aquinas. Or Newton. What about Michael Faraday.
Yeah, all these people are REEEEL stupid, son. You got them pegged.
Think before you speak.
relgion is ok if you force it upon a group where they all take in religion, you should have it forced upon yourself on something that belongs to government if you don`t believe in the particular relgion.
we may need to understand that killing people is bad but it`s basically told to us by society. it may be helpful to have it in the ten comandments, butagain with relgion. i don`t want to be preached something i think is better off with edjucating people who want to hear it.
I also love the colbert report and daily show becuase i can watch my news and laugh myself silly.
i understand that people have different opinions but the people who have said enough i don`t want to hear it should stop talking about the stupid fu*king 10 commandments and just deal with their relgion.
I think religion is overrated and you can debate this all you want but i couldn`t care less what you said about it because that`s my opinion.
Chill out. She was only stating her beliefs, no matter how flawed and arrogent they were.
I judge people based on actions, not on what they believe. I wish other teenagers would do this, but sadly, most of us have some major growing up to do, including me. I`m not the perfect teenager, and I don`t claim to be.
Too bad most of you need an easy scapegoat, and religon is right there. I mean, its big, its the norm, and many people believe in many kinds of religons.
[/Sarcasm] I mean, if its big and a lot of people follow it, it MUST be wrong, right? You rebels! Fight the power!
Also, I am not saying religon is right because a lot of people follow it. I am just remarking on the fact that many teenagers target large institutions to feel important and rebel.
Burn in hell. You are so f*cking ignorant of other peoples religons its UNBEARABLE. Go kill yourself, please, because people as stupid as you should not live on God`s green earth.
I am a Christian, and the 10 commandments are a big part of Christianity, so Jews believe them as well. Good we all should.
Here they are straight in their original wording: http://www.crystalinks.com/tencommandmen...
If you`re too lazy to read that, let me tell you a fun fact. You can`t make pictures of anything above the cloud ceiling. You can`t make pictures of anything below the ground. You can`t make pictures of anything in the sea. Your neighbor`s wife is his property.
Also, forcing ANY religion upon ANYONE ANYWHERE is WRONG.Alc: People who say "First post" and contribute nothing to the thread are wasting everyone`s time.
I love the Colbert Report.
Your mom having sex with your dad was stupid. You should have been an abortion.
bigoldjeffry: much love to you.
Our forefathers stated that religion and government should be sperated FOR A REASON!
Which one of the commandments led to the holocaust? Or which one lead to 9-11? Fact is the 10 commandments are simple even if not a Christian. How does reading them or God forbid, follwoing them harm anything?
you spend so much time on the internet you`ve never seen the Colbert Report???
Our forefathers stated that religion and government should be sperated FOR A REASON!
btw whats up with attacking ppl who try for a first post? its not like there ever gonna do anything to you except have their name read before yours, or possibly earn 52 seconds of internet fame.
"the 10 commandments are stupid."
So, everyone should be able to kill whomever they wish. Everyone should be able to steal whatever they want?
Grow up, hoe.
"right... you keep believing that sparky. Everything you are told is correct there is nothing to fear except fear itself, and brown people, and socialism"
Yeah, because if you don`t think that The Colbert Report and The Daily Show are funny, then you must be some kind of Bush-loving Republican, right?
God, I hate when people oversimplify. Grow up, son.
SO ITS FUNNY
OH MY GAWD HOW CLEVER ITS FUNNY SO FUNNY
Hey, Stephen Coal-BERT, shut your stupid mouth. No one cares.
God, I hate people.
And this really doesn`t reflect well on the american government. I actually feel a litlle sorry for the guy.
no its not fake and this is not a "Reporter" you idiots its Steven Colbert of the Colbert Report on comedy central. watch the show its the best... especially if you hate bush.
Clearly, you would have just wasted it anyway.
That`s not a commandment!
Anyway, is that guy famous in America <one being interviewed> because the whole thing had the air of a scripted skit, but then again obviously it isn`t if he is a real politician. If it`s true, I cannot believe it!! What a moron. His grammar was terrible, too - "the ten commandments is..":-/
2. as for it being fake/scripted, do you really think they`d get the guy backing the whole deal to pretend to not know the ten commandments? i doubt that.
Thank the Good Lord America has a 100% Christian population...otherwise all this pushing of one specific religion might seem a bit unfair. Some people might even try to claim it is unconstitutional.
But those people are just jealous because they`re heathens and are destined to burn in a lake of fire for all eternity.
and i happened to be right!
"it`s french bitch"
right... you keep believing that sparky. Everything you are told is correct there is nothing to fear except fear itself, and brown people, and socialism
It was scripted, and even if it were the sponsor of the bill really not knowing the Ten Commandments, it`s not really funny. It`s retarded.
Makes me sad though, at the same time.
Oh, woe is America.
