Yep. So, at what numeric value do honest mistakes add up to being a dufus? Can it be represented by a formula?
(X honest mistakes / IQ of house cat)*Ivy League Degrees Daddy paid for = Individual Dufus Factor

Anyone care to graph that out? My guess is the result looks like a face and two big ears. ;-)

muppet, did you even click the link? and if you did... did you even read what it said? "Wallsten is legally blind. Wallsten tells us he has a rare genetic disorder called Stargardt’s Disease. The disease is a form of macular degeneration that can be slowed “by wearing UV-protective sunglasses and avoiding exposure to bright light."
There, now you don`t have to! :-D

It`s funny how right before he`s talking about respect and then he gets so snarky o_O

But I agree, how do we know he was blind? By the perspective crack? Or the way the audience laughed when bush mentioned the shades?

To all the people saying `well could you tell he was blind` that is all very fine, but if you are the president it does not give you an inalienable right to tease reporters...this kind of thing is bound to happen, ypu`ll get someone who happens to wear that `funny necklace` because they are recovering from throat cancer. Duh, dat was funny!
How about you all stop following a blind ideology promoted by the media that Bush is a retard. I agree with HamFar, he isn`t the smartest president we`ve ever had, and I don`t agree with a bunch of the things he`s done. But I`m not going to jump on his back every time he makes a mistake then apologizes for it. I`m sure you`ve all watched Family Guy, which makes fun of blind people directly almost every episode. I don`t see any uproar for that. But when Bush makes an honest mistake, oh, watch out! Retard with an IQ of 12!

I read this story. The guy isn`t actually *blind*, he has some sort of disease that causes his eyesight to fade away and wearing sunglass will help slow the process and also help him see better outside. And once Pres Bush did find out the guy had an eye problem, he called him up and apologized and the guy was fine with it. i would put the link up, but apparently it`s old news b/c i can`t find it anymore. but anyway, I don`t blame Bush for teasing the reporters. If i has people up my @$$ asking me the same questions all the time and critizing me, i`d be a bit pushy too.

I really don`t think this says anything about Bush`s intelligence. If he sees these reporters a lot and gets to know them, I don`t see the problem with a little fun banter...yes they`re discussing serious issues, but life has it`s lighter side too.
In terms of what he chose to tease...I don`t think it was inappropriate at all. It`s not like he was making fun of the guy`s colour or sexuality. I think the sunglasses would be an obvious target as it`s something unusual that that you wouldn`t expect to see in the middle of a press conference on a cloudy day. Some might even consider it rude to wear them, just as one would consider it rude to wear a baseball cap inside. (And yes, I realize he needs the glasses, and I`m not calling him rude).

    `Needle away`
Wallsten said Bush called his cell phone later in the day to apologize and tell him that he didn’t know he had the disease. Wallsten said he interrupted and told the president that no apology was necessary and that he didn’t feel offended since he hadn’t told anyone at the White House about his condition.

“He said, ‘I needle you guys out of affection,”’ Wallsten said. “I said, ’I understand that, but I don’t want you to treat me any differently because of this.”’

Wallsten said the president said he would not treat him differently, so Wallsten encouraged him to “needle away.”

“He said, ‘I will. Next time I’ll just use a different needle,”’ Wallsten said.

    Still didn`t answer the question
Wallsten said he thought that was a pretty good line. And his only complaint is that the president didn’t answer his question at the news conference.

Hahaha...yeah, I heard about this a few days ago.

In all honesty, I feel a bit bad for the president. If you watch the whole press conference, you can see that he was trying to joke around the entire time and it got REALLY awkward long before the blind reporter even stood up.

Bush should be so grateful the reporter didn`t call him out right then and there (just saying "it depends on your perspective" was a really graceful thing to do, too.)

hey cynnick, yea you, the guy jumping to conclusions, do your f***ing research before criticizing my president. the link put in the same page you commented on said

Wallsten said Bush’s comments did not offend him at all. “I never advertise it to him. I’ve never told him.”

TP, isn’t this too much of hair-splitting than anything? Really, anyone would make the same mistake. A guy wearing sunglasses - do YOU immediately assume he’s blind?

Classic foot in mouth syndrome.. its like asking a fat woman when the baby is due. mistakes happen.

Anyway, it`s no big deal. The guy isn`t even really blind, only legally blind. He has very, very, poor vision, but can still see. He`s not going to be racing anytime soon though. ;)

Remember: Disabled people are people too, and that includes the same right to be teased that everyone else has.

I have been at this page for a long time, and I feel this is the first time for me to register and post. I believe that this man is and idot with close minded views, but this is a time to laugh and enjoy a simple mistake. He is not not an idiot for this mistake. Read the links you guys... the reporter didn`t tell anyone, and its not "complete" blindess. Bush apologized, and the reporter was ok with it. This is a time to laugh and say, "I`m glad I wasn`t in that position at that time!" not a time to call him an idiot. I agree with most when I say that he is a bad president(although when americans say "he isnt`t my president" read the constitution, if u are a U.S citizen, then yes he is)This clip should do nothing more than poke fun at a simple mistake that anyone would have made. If you think(as an american) that bush is not your president, I will fight you over it, because all law states that if u r a U.S citizen, he is your president. If u don`t like it,

And to punk listeners around the world,
Age doesn`t matter, if your not smart enough to understand the underlying meaning of certain songs, then stop thinking you are politically intellegent. Just because you listen to it doesn`t mean you understand it. This is not a hit against anyone( I listen to punk music) just don`t act like you understand politics just because a band told you so. i know I don`t. I do my research

I really love it when you European phucks criticize the US and its government. That makes me chuckle. Please explain why you bastards can`t just thank us that you`re not speaking German...provided you`re not German already...and then shut the phuck up!

America did not win the second world war- they didn`t even join until near the end. Don`t bring that up the clip is about BUSH. Anyway i think it was a simple mistake and would still be funny if any person had done it.

My father works with blind people and I`ve been around blind people all my life, but to be honest, I couldn`t even tell the guy is legally blind. (Most "legally blind" people wear much thicker glasses.)

What is even more ridiculous is that the site you posted a link to regarding the story of the guy, the guy himself said he knew Bush didn`t know. Like most blind people, he doesn`t advertise his blindness, he gets over it and lives with it. Yes, it is awkward and embarrassing for Bush to find that out the hard way, but (1) it is an honest mistake anyone can make and (2) Bush wasn`t an ass about it because he didn`t make the guy take them off. He simply didn`t know. I love how the comments on the site like to bash Bush (since anytime is a good time to bash Bush, obviously). You`ve got to be a dick for beating on someone for an honest mistake. You can bag on him for political sh*t all you want, but grow up by shutting up on this one.

"Bush may not be the perfect president, but he`s a hell of alot better than Kerry or Gore."

Very true. Then again, Al Gore couldn`t really be President anyways, since he`s too busy saving the environment and inventing the next Internet. Kerry? He`s still in the habit of taking back his words and changing his mind.

This story reminds me of the time Clinton was in office, and he was holding some kid, which he accidentally dropped. Of course, you didn`t see people bagging on Clinton for that. Why? Because it takes blind hatred from ignorant liberals to beat someone up for a simple mistake.

I dont usually like commenting but these comments got me pissed off. All you bastards saying Bush is a bad man for having a little sense of humor are idiots. Do presidents always have to be serious? No! Is life isnt always about rules and regulations. No! If it was just a little joke to lighten the mood and nobody got hurt then is it a crime to have a little sense of humor. No! This just goes to show you Bush is a regular man and a human and tryin to have a little humor to help lighten the mod on a serious subject. George Bush is a regular man with good intentions, if you dont afree with some of his policies then thats up to you, but he`s not tryin to purposely hurt someone. So to everyone who thinks Bush is a Moron, Jerk, Idiot or whatever else you wanna call him just because of this one clip then all of you should grow up, have some logic and be a good person.

So what if Bush did something else that makes him look like an idiot? I wish he`d do more of this kind of thing instead of eroding my civil rights, fighting illegal wars, kissing corporate asses, etc. I`d certainly like him a lot more if he came off as a Gerald Ford caricature instead of the psychotic bible belt button-pushing sycophant that he is. I didn`t vote for him, I don`t like him, and I`m not moving out of the country. So shut up.

By the way, if you`d like some reasons to hate Bush, here are a few: first, his faith-based initiative means that persons of major, dignified religions other than his will have to renounce their faith to receive public assistance. Second, his energy policy was written by Ken Lay. Third, one word: wiretaps. Fourth... Hmmm... Fourth... Oh, how about 2,500 dead soldiers and over 100,000 dead Iraqi civillians TO SATISFY A VENDETTA.
