Surreality you got a point. I am merely passing on the information that i remember, and to be honest it might not be 100%, i only know that the cameraman died, not how.........
I saw a film about the Krafts once on National Geographic, and ofcause this was a part of it.)-I

Sumsar, although I can believe you when it comes to knowing about the speed of the smoke coming from the volcanoe, I`m still curious. If the person behind the camera died from the heat of the smoke, how come it didn`t ruin the footage? Always wondered that...

Tnaran is right, several people dided in this incident. One beeing Maurice Kraft who if i remember correct is the person filming this....
The cameraman died filming this and he knew that there was no reason to run, so he stayed and filmed the pyroclastic flow....
Still very facinating fotage

Anyone think "Private Jet-Pak?" That way, you would still have children after you`re burned

For reference, it doesnt matter if you run or not. The camera guy was just as safe as the guy running. You couldnt out run a pyroclastic flow-not in a million years. That being said, i would be running my ass off. Let it burn asses and elbows.

People keep saying "why isn`t the guy with the camera running?" I think it`s pretty frig`n obvious that this is either a standalone remote camera (by the way it moves) or a camera inside a vehicle, based on it`s height...think people.

^ i`d still run away. Some cultures know pyroclastic flows as "glowing clouds" because the gas is so hot it`s like it`s on fire, so it glows (hence pyro). You`d burn and suffocate all at the same time!

Ouch!

By the looks of it, they were far enough from the flow not to run.
Depth perception in the video makes the cloud look much closer than it is.

"No one died" is a @#$! lie!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Unzen

This was the eruption of Mt. Unzen in Japan, and 43 scientists and journalists died in THIS eruption in 1991. Including the famous French volcano documentary makers Katia and Maurice Kraft.

National Geographic clip of the same footage but properly identifying the volcano and death toll.

I`m sorry, but if the fire department goes running as fast as they can right past me, I`m not going to stand there and keep filming.

Umm, I know those pyrcolastic flow thingies are fast, but if I was the guy withe camera I would have been legging it. By the end of the video it looked pretty close.

Maybe the cloud of smoke was FOLLOWING the truck, anybody think of that? He was playing it smart the farther away he was from the truck the better.
