"Gee darling, I think we should go over to Eddie`s place. I hear he has a couple of black men dancing in his living room."
    "Oh my! How exciting!"
    ...aaaaand I`m done.

They had some pretty good moves back then though. Better than most of the dancing done today sadly. Come on guys, you know you look like a tool when you get dragged out on the floor... AM I RIGHT?!?!?!

    - yes, cause standing there and waving your arms about in odd positions (rave music) or shoving each other round in a circle getting bruised (punk/metal) is evolving... dance IS kicking and jumping, in some respects: breakdancing is very athletic - but it`s not about the specific moves it`s about the timing and that. You try doing all that fast.. and well. From my mum watching this dance competition you can see how the slightest off-time or wrong footing/sloppiness can mean it isn`t being done well.

There is no denying these guys had real talent, especially the second of the two.

I can`t believe comments that are putting these guys down. They were in this movie because they were GOOD! That second guy had some MAD SKILLZ not only for the time, but even for today.

The first guy was a little silly, though, but it was on purpose and was intended at the time to be a bit silly, like mocking how easy the popular dances were. Those moves probably got cheers by people who recognized the familiar dance "craze" without realizing they were silly.

*rolls eyes* I didn`t say they were skanking. I said I read something that skanking was like a development of the Charleston (can`t remember what it actually said so the only correction to my post would be that it wasn`t speeded up) & I could see where they coulda got that idea. when i said `when they did it` i meant the Charleston, and I could kinda see how it might have evolved to/partly influenced development of skanking. & I was reading up on it to try and improve my knowledge of the history of ska, rather than thinking I know everything like some kids today do. God I sound old.. I am also losing my ability to skank *sighs* But yeh u misunderstood me, don`t just read the word `skanking` and assume i thought they

UKJess86 - I knew what you meant! :) and I thought both the dancers in the clip were excellent. I`d actually like to learn to swing dance, or maybe even learn some popular dances from the 1920s! That would be so fun. People don`t like to go dancing anymore cause no one dances. They just go "clubbing" It is NOT the same at all.

Yeah same - people wonder why I don`t go out getting drunk.. i`d rather save my money to go see a band. And if all people wanna do when they go clubbing is semi dance, pull and get drunk then i`m not that interested! lol.. I think though it`s cause there`s so many people on the dance floor at one time dance has evolved to be a bit more reserved (though obviously it depends on the place and the music) whereas in those days it was expected that you`d take up some room so the crowd naturally didn`t pack together as much. There needs to be a good ol` dancehall revival haha. Lessons in the day, dances on certain nights heh. Different themed nights and you went depending on what you preferred/were best at.

These guys were good but back then that`s what the white folks expected from the "colored folks". Singing and dancing. That`s all that they can do. Imagine what kind of scene it would have been if one of the black guys started to talk of one of the white ladies. In 1947, he would have been dancing from the business end of a rope

and this is one of the reason i so wished i lived back then. instead of with all this hip hop and reggaeton bulls h i t, ah besides the racism, there was such respect in the 30-40s, men held the door open for women, now its a tap on the ass, people were polite to each other most of the times, now everyone`s out for themselves and etc etc. christ. </rant>

The majority of the dances of today would never make it...

you can mos def see many styles of dance incorporated in this early 60`s video: jitterbug, jazz, vogueing, hiphop and just plain "wiggin" out...

Yeah, I still can`t get over the set-up. It truly was a deal where the gentrified good people of the town brought in a couple of negroes (you must say that word down your nose, don`t you know) to entertain. Think the dancers were offered refreshments afterwards? Oh well.

But, as far as their dancing goes, pretty nice.

The uprock is a reference to the basis for all moves in breakdancing. With that said, the reason the break music was inserted was because of a comparison that was being made between 50s/60s era dancing and the breakdance moves that came about in the 80s. I enjoyed it, personally.

Haha, thos guys are the shiznit when it comes to dancing...

In all seriousness though, it wasn`t to bad of a clip... I know I couldn`t be in step or do half as good as they did. . . So I have no right to say anything.

jeff, it`s the sensor, i`m sure you know that, but when you say the eff word it makes it into "drat" and i think drat is a gay british thing.
now if some said black motherdraters to you there`d be a right uproar.. but let me be the first to say don`t be so effing racist. we all know black people are better natural dancers & runners and white people are better natural swimmers.. but that doesn`t mean we can`t dance or black people can`t swim. Sheesh. I mean a lil joke woulda been alright but no need to get that harsh.

white people can`t dance. but they CAN steal pretty good, ask the chinese, indians, africans, australians (the REAL australian natives), the Central Americans, the south americans, and godamn every other place on the planet.
    face it. you can`t dance.

Wait........ so let me get this strait.

So YOUR saying that we are superior? I mean, using logic, if you know what that is, by saying that we can take those things, and they dont stop us, then we are superior. I`m not saying we are, I would never say that, but that is what you are implying. I usually only hear stupid racist comments about black people from white people, not from a black person himself. You are strange, you self hater you.

Hell yeah it was. They were doin that crap back in the early 30`s?! Those guys freakin rock. And all the haters out there ripping on these guys, what do you do when you dance? Sway back and forth not even on the beat, or is it the grind your incredibly small bulge up against some chick too drunk to know your ugly. THAT is not dancing, THIS is dancing. So unless you can do better, quit critiquing from the sideline. These guys kick ass
