Hm. Finding an argument ridiculous does not imply one have to give another ridiculous in return. I do not claim to know how everything came to be, in fact it does not interrest me much. I accept much of the explanations made by science so far as far more sound than a couple of theories made some thousand years ago.

I patronize religious persons without an insight to why they need a belief and what this is as much as I want. As I patronize all other people I find pathetic.

about my personal experiences. I`ll say it again. Do I think every atheist thinks that every christian is an idiot? No. As a christian who doesn`t push, I don`t know what it`s like for an atheist being pushed. I try to show respect for atheist, but IN MY EXPERIENCE, I`m starting to realize that I can`t always expect the same respect in return. In which case, the respect I show sometimes slips, but I won`t apoligize for it.

Sure you could just say "big bang", but without precise knowledge of the details, isn`t that just as silly, so you say and/or insinuate, as saying that God created everything out of nothing. I mean, can you explain the origin of all life and the universe and have it make sense? Please try. If you can`t, how can you dismis the idea of a higher power so easily? It seems as if you just make speculations without any reason or evidence behind it, which doesn`t hold much weight.

To cheeseispunk,
Thanks for proofreading my post for me. I`m sure that the teacher will definitely give me an A+ now because this is an English class and not a comments page on a silly little website. I`m sure if you read this post, you`ll find a typo or missplaced comma or two. But really, frivolous spell checks that give the illusion that you`re more intelligent than the person you`re debating (whatever helps you sleep at night) aside, like I said before, I was only talking

To Guinstar,
See my above reply to Taurus01979. And when did I say anything about ME practicing homosexuality? All I said is I don`t care about OTHERS doing it, and I try to have respect for others` beliefs and an open mind as well. I also believe this is free country. And on a side note, If you don`t believe in my religion, don`t tell ME how to follow it. I hate that.

To gnazzah,
As you being an atheist, tell me, what qualifies you to determine what a "bad christian" is exactly? Again, you are another case of a non-christian telling a christian how to follow christianity. And please don`t patronize me with your "invisible friend" comment. And as for your comment about the explanation of a divine being, I could just as easily turn the tables on you. Please explain to me the origins of all life and the universe. Sure you could just say "big bang", but without precise knowledge of the details, isn`t that just as silly as saying that God created every

Not that it really matters, but:

To EisforPANTS,
You are correct about no one being perfect. I am certainly not and I don`t try to be, but don`t make me think YOU`VE never said anything un-Christ-like. Unless you haven`t, don`t come to me with your "holier than thou" approach. I mean, it`s not like I killed someone. Plus, you`re not my mom.

To Taurus09179,
You if read what I posted again, you`ll see that I said "in my experience". Do I think every atheist thinks every Christian is an idiot? No. But I have yet to MEET an atheist who didn`t think I was an idiot, regardless of whether or not I was pushing my religion, which as I said before, I don`t. In fact, in my earlier exchange with Enohead, I experienced the first real feeling of respect from an atheist. It`s kind of hard not to make generalizations about atheist when every atheist you`ve met makes generalizations about you. But I guess we could just point the finger back and forth all day huh?

"Every time an athiest discovers that someone is a Christian or even hears a mention of the name `Jesus` or `God,` it seems they become enraged and out come all the `crazy` and `idiot` insults," quoth VONLINE. (The quote would later live on to be edited for grammar and punctuation, along with the necessity of it being changed to fit a quote format. It wasn`t too full of errors so it did not keep its editor entertained for long.)

Well, VONLINE, I myself am an athiest and I know many Christian people, some who push their religion, some who don`t. I understand why you as a Christian do not want people of other religions to think all Christians are big pushers.

By the same token, I, as an athiest, know that not all athiests see Christians as the biggest meanies. We don`t all lash out when poeple mention God. Please, I try not to pigeonhole other religions, please try not to pigeonhole my lack thereof.

Vonline: You`re as a christian actually told by Jesus himself `to go out and make all peoples his diciples`. You wouldn`t happen to be a bad christian, now would you?

Religion is historically a brilliant way of controlling people. An ancient way of government if you like. I mean, how could you find a better way to make unpopular decitions on all the people in your community? By claiming it is the will of the god(s) of course. But now we have more advanced forms of government, and do not really need religion. Except for the invicible friend beforementioned. It`s allways nice to have friends. Invicible or not.

However, in my book, you would really have a hard time trying to explain by reason how a devine being could exist. It really does not make any sence. But please try. It`s allways good fun.

all generalisations are false... ;) i`m atheist and my best friend`s a christian, i certainly don`t call her an idiot, we often have debates about religion, and we`ve both opened our minds to the other`s P.O.V

""And oh yea, I don`t care if queers get married.""

i`m glad to hear that, but the Bible does say `do not practice homosexuality`, so how come you can choose which bits of the Bible apply and which don`t?

>>>I appreciate that and as a Christian I don`t push my religion on anyone else. Not all Christians do, but in my experience it seems that all athiests have that mindset and it pisses me off.<<<

Logic question here, why WOULD many have that mind set? Maybe because there are a lot who DO push it and have done so for a very VERY LONG time? Disrespecting other people`s non/beliefs and ability to live their lives as they see fit. Simply put, it is no different then any other minority that is sensitive to various topics because of history and present situation.

I don`t know of any NORMAL atheists that "become enraged and outcome all the "crazy" and "idiot" insults." Most average nonreligious person is likely to keep their mouth fairly closed on the subject, it is relatively few that are actually that outspoken. Except maybe online when some feel braver. ; )

And VONLINE - saying things such as "Does it hurt having your head that far up your ass?" doesn`t really look good coming from a Christian mouth...I understand that none of us are perfect, but if you are trying to represent our God then try to be more Christ-like...

And no, I`m not being sarcastic...

Thanks for catching me on that...I`ll try to not do that in the future ^^

And to ohgoodness-

I remember hearing an evolution theory about it raining down on ROCKS for a long long time, forming a primordial soup (i think?), so you can see where I get the whole rock thing from. I do admit I don`t have an extensive knowledge of evolution and it`s theories, so forgive me if I`m misinformed.

I understand the theory of evolution and why an Atheist would believe it, but as far as the origins of all life itself, I can`t wrap my mind around it. Maybe you can and that`s fine with me. I just feel like there has to be something more to it. And don`t take this as me pushing my religion. I`m just stating my opinion and standing up for my beliefs which seem to be under constant attack nowadays. And oh yea, I don`t care if queers get married.

And I was simply pointing out that all religions have radical followers (hello Eric Rudolph). And they all have a convenient excuse to do crappy things to other people: Jesus, or Allah, or whoeverthehell.
I wasn`t implying that all Christians are rotten, nor was I implying all Muslims are rotten. I am NOT anti-God, even though I`m an athiest.
Like I said above, I don`t need the promise of an afterlife to live as a moral person in this life.
If religion brings people happiness and meaning, I`m happy for them. I certainly wouldn`t go door-to-door trying to convince them to see things my way.

And I did NOT say that I have better morals than someone who believes in God (implying that I think I have better morals than everyone who believes). I said that I have better morals that A LOT of people who believe in God. And then I listed a couple examples of people who believe in two different respective Gods, and the really lousy things they do in the name of them. Or Them, if you prefer.

Thank you, but I know what "Athiest" means. I was refering to your direct comment, the one about having better morals than someone who believes in God. That`s all I hear from you people. Find new material for your Christian bashing. You`ve been saying the same thing for months. I use to get excited if a heated religious discussion was taking place. But, it was my mistake thinking it would be an intelligent discussion. Instead it is like talking to children on a playground. To the Christians, don`t even bother trying to persuade someone in a comment forum. I`ve tried and it`s a waste of time, especially the crowd on here.

After all, I would never, EVER strap a bomb onto myself and blow up innocent people in the name of science. Nor would I deny people the right to marry simply because it`s against MY religion (never mind the fact that not everybody believes that particular religion).
I strive to be a decent person without the threat of punishment or the promise of a reward after I die.

But if you`re THAT DESPERATE to suddenly discover some insiduous racism that infiltrates every possible attempt at deriving general evidence for a potential truth through the method of analysing statistical trends, no matter WHAT the subject may actually be, then here is your 9-headed Hydra, as it were: 15%-37% of Israelis don`t believe in God, according to Zuckerman 2005. So is Judaism really as much a religion, as it is a Race??? Think about it.

Male 3,631
Hey Pr Kitty... Settle down, this is not a discussion on race. What`s wrong, you couldn`t find a better word to condemn something that you THOUGHT was putting forth a statistic based on a biased alternative? Typical East-Coast snob. Anyway, in humoring your outrage, where in his article did he claim that by "Atheist" or "Agnostic" or general Non-Believer in God, he meant the Christian God, which itself cannot be narrowed down to any basic set of objective paramaters or guidelines, since everyone who`s accepted the proposition of some vague adherence to the "Bible" influencing their life is so wrapped-up in the emotional cobweb of "personal-experience" which justifies their faith, that they can`t give "God" an objective face since he is not testable (or epistemologically validated) in any possible way!! You can`t test a hypothesis that you are incapable of specifically putting forth; and THAT is my conclusion on God.

Just because it`s not the Christian, Catholic, and etc. God, that everyone is farmilar with. Does not make them Athiests. It makes them a different religion. There are like 40+ religions that don`t have the Bible God. So rude. I hope that they burn in hell for such a site. If they want to post facts then post them right. Change it to those that don`t believe in the web site creator`s religion.
