The accents are not meant to be representations of people speaking in their own language...but speaking in international english. So please fack off if you dont think it sounds like your exact accent...you probably speak in your own area`s slang.

This is an invaluable tool for a linguist. Good work.

My father, who is Swiss-German, listened to the only Swiss-German one on this site and said it`s fake. That he sounds British really. By the way, my father lived in England for two years once.

Hm... Interesting.

My accent? I first spoke Swiss-Italian for 7 years and then American English the past 11. What kind of accent could I possibly have? Maybe I should put mine on there.

^^I agree with Jaz. The accents that were chosen for England werent very representative\or thick. I`m at university with people from all over England and hardly anybody actually talks like that. For proper english accents they should have had some examples of roosterney, geordie or scouse. Or manc which is how i speak :-)

Sabre, this is suppost to represent regininal accents. People who represent them should at least have a broad one. Them british ones were just "American" english. They had NO accent.

Jaz they recorded these from actual people in each location, your a smart one aren`t you? I think not.

I thought this was really kool, neat to hear how much different each country`s people can sound across such short distances.

Please call Stella. Ask her to bring these things with her from the store: Six spoons of fresh snow peas, five thick slabs of blue cheese, and maybe a snack for her brother Bob. We also need a small plastic snake and a big toy frog for the kids. She can scoop these things into three red bags, and we will go meet her Wednesday at the train station

Cockney, Manc, Scoucer, Brummy, Jordey, Yorkshire, West Country.

Oh wait that explains it... It was made by Americans.

I really can`t pinpoint which one sounds more like my accent on there. I guess maybe the Pittsburgh, PA one. That one sounds least like it has an accent to me.

Why only a small plastic snake?

The closest to my accent is "Staffordshire" on the UK map, the flag just above the "OM" on "KINGDOM"

really I really can`t tell the difference between Aussie accents, truly besides the typical Aussie one we always hear

That was fun. The Texas one sounded like the guy that talked on the training videos when I worked at Wal-Mart. I didn`t hear an accent at all in his voice.

The Pensacola one is not representative of Florida mainly because the majority of us don`t have a slight southern twang in our speech. I`d say about 2% have southern twang, 40% have northern accents from various locals, and the rest speak spanish.

My personal favorite accent is the Czech accent. It just sounds really exotic to me. My godbrother`s grandmother is Czech, and I love listening to her speak.
