its real

b-hazard = wrong

if the guy was going to make a fake video, he would have made it so the dog threw it further. also, i`d like to see a guy who can edit something that appears live on letterman with an audience.

B-Hazzard, you are an idiot. In your response to my previous post, you say that people are only making comparisons of dogs to humans. Clearly, you are a reactionary, and didn`t read the SECOND sentance of my post. Do humans have paws? Oh, and I`ve SEEN dogs with underbites, it happens.

Watch the dog`s PAWS, when he catches the ball, he jumps at it. When he throws it, his paws stay on the ground. If you can`t understand that, its ok, other smart people will tell you what to do with the rest of your life. But quit being so quick to judge, you`re missing important information.

You are suffering from the most human of ailments, an inability to accept that you are wrong. You`d better get over it, I assure you, it will happen again.

Everybody who calls "fake" on videos like this has absolutely no idea how much work it is to fake stuff and make it look good. I do movie visual effects for a living, and I can tell you this video is real, because faking it would be a huge pain in the butt, and would be stupid and pointless. People who have too much time and skills to do this kind of thing and want their 15 minutes of internet fame don`t make videos of dogs throwing balls; they make CG robots, ninjas, robot ninjas, and robot ninjas on fire with rocket launchers.

NOT FAKE- frankfurter is right- you can easily tell if you just actually watch that the dog is applying pressur to the ball to make it move. My dogs done this before, but by accident and it didn`t go quite this high.

The dog does appear to have a disproportionately large tounge (at least by my limited experience with dogs) capable of launching the ball. One of the throwbacks to the owner looks like the dog is gagging on the ball, at which point I think he`s trying to position the tip of his tounge under the ball. He also tilts his head upward when he releases the ball.

However the small clip does have a certain `fake` quality to it. The throws are carried out a bit too perfect and seamless.

I could go either way.

It must suck to train your dog to do these things, or even train yourself to do anything cool for the internet. Nobody would believe you...

Die, Photoshop Police!

1) Video played backwards looks like it`s being played backwards.
2) Faking stuff is hard.
3) Why would you fake this? Just to impress strangers on the web for 10 seconds?
4) It`s obviously real.

The fact that it says "oscar the dog who can throw a ball" then "really" put me off straight away. Why write really on it, it makes it seem fake from the start. Whether it`s fake or not, I`m not sure, as the way the dog moves doesn`t quite match up, but hey, I`m not saying a dog can`t throw a ball, I`m just saying this film looks fake. Now if the dog flicked its head a little more...

dogs have an overbite. as far as I know that can`t make their front teeth meet in such a way to propell it forward. More like it would shoot downward.

Not all breeds have overbites. Dogs can have level bites, scissor bites, underbites, overbites. I have Australian Shepherds which have Scissor bites. The video does look odd but I believe the dog is usuing it`s teeth and pinching it to the owner... one of those odd dog tricks, probably something the dog picked up on its own and the owner just fined tuned with reinforcement. It`s definately possible though.

would anyone like a veterinary opinion? dogs can throw balls. but i dont think thats the point. they guy obviously has a great bond with his dog, and theyre both having fun. he either wanted to share this with other people or he (or a friend) likes editing movies.

My dog can do the same thing, with only a little less height. It`s not fake, and it`s completely possible.

i`d say this falls neatly in the "fact is stranger than fiction" category: i really don`t see why he`d go through the trouble of fabricating something that`s not really very interesting or terribly unusual--i mean, it`s not like this guy is brooding over a glass of brandy late at night laughing at all the gullible fools who bought into his amazing "throwing dog scam of amazing-ness"... he`s not even pulling a profit from his lil` website, as far as i can tell.

now, maybe the frame-rate`s low enough to make things look a little off kilter, but i`d wager that if this was higher quality there`d be no doubt that it`s real.

Notice before the dog "throws" the ball back he is positioning it forward in his mouth so that he can push it out with his tongue. The dog flips his head up at the same time he pushes the ball out with his tongue. He can only throw it a few feet… it is such a minor thing for a dog to be able to do, why is it so hard to believe.

If you really look at the video you can tell that it isn’t being played backwards.

When my dog gets a hold of a ball he flips it out of his mouth into the air so he can catch it again. I didn’t teach it to him, he just does it naturally. If I were to work with him a little bit I would be able to teach him to throw it to me.

Some dogs are quite smart, some are stupid. Just like humans.

B-Hazard: Oh. So I`m assuming you have as much experience as his movie making friend, right?

Actually I`m a trained audio post production engineer. I`ve done a lot of video and film work. Believe me, I know what an edit looks like. But of course you don`t have to believe me.

I guess you didn`t read my explaination then. Here it is again. The toss at the beginning happens 4 times without an edit or cut. -

Oh. So I`m assuming you have as much experience as his movie making friend, right?

its really pretty simple how the dog would toss back the ball...

all the dog has to do is jerk up his head and open his mouth and voila, the ball is in motion.

think of it this way, if you are holding a ball between your hands, jerk your hands upwards and open your hands, you would have effectively tossed the ball right?

on second thought, if people couldn`t conceptualize how the dog tossed the ball in the first place, us trying to explain it probably won`t help either =P

i think it looks real. it would be like soap slippng out from your fingers (i know another human comparison). Also if you watch the dog does jerk his head slightly upwards.

What gets me is that the editing shows the ball in mid-flight, almost seamlessly, yet I can`t see a camera behind the man`s shoulder.

-The dog is using it`s bottom jaw to flip the ball upwards. You can do it too. Stick a small ball between your teeth, and bite down on it in such a way that its propeled forward. Its not that difficult to see how the dog does it. Oh, unless you are retarded.-

I can`t see how people are so convinced with an edited video. The only person who`s made a credible point is NyQ with the position of the guys hands, I can`t explain that. But I`m not so much into movie editing that I would be able to. I`d be more convinced if I saw an unedited version (Convenient how his `friend is a filmaker` so he just had to edit the film, but they can`t just put up an unedited one for the sake of proof) until then, NyQ`s the only person I submit to. The rest of you are making comparisons of dogs to humans...that just doesn`t make sense.

It is real, because you can watch the motions the dog makes when catching the ball, which are far different than when he throws it. When he catches the ball, he jumps at it, but when he throws it, his front paws stay on the ground. You have to be an idiot to not see that. Then again, there are a lot of those on this board.

I agree with NyQ, why, whenever something is posted here, is there always an arguement over its authenticity? The dog is using it`s bottom jaw to flip the ball upwards. You can do it too. Stick a small ball between your teeth, and bite down on it in such a way that its propeled forward. Its not that difficult to see how the dog does it. Oh, unless you are retarded.

It`s not fake. My neighbors dog can do this. Not quite as far as the dog in the video, but still impressive for a dog.

if you watch a full cycle (i.e. ball to dog, to man, back to dog) it is very easy to see that the film is not reversed

sometimes people are so skeptical to the point of stupidity...really, with all the amazing things that happen everyday, is it really so hard to believe that a dog can throw a ball?

animals dial 911, but no one questions that

I don`t think it`s real either. How would the dog propell the ball to the guy? It would not have had enough speed to reach him.

in the first throw back to the man, the man`s palms are vertical...now, if this were a clip played in reverse, how could the man`s hands have been vertical and still throw he ball to the dog.

the dog positions the ball at the front of its mouth and uses the torque at the end of his mouth to lauch the ball back to the guy...

for instance, if you put a rubber ball on the end of the spoon, you would not have to move the handle of the spoon much in order to create enough force to lauch the ball out of the spoon

It`s not real, the video is being played backwards.

That`s not to say it`s good because the man is acting in a way that when it is played backwards, he looks like it`s being played forwards - quite a skill. There are people who do whole videos backwards that look like it`s just a normal film.

I cant say wether its real or not. At first looks knid of fake do to the balls path but then has a truth point since the dog takes time to position the ball in his mouth. If it is true, just imagine all the days of training this guy had to do!

look at the motion of the ball when he "throws" it. It`s either fake, or the ball is denying the laws of physics. You choose.

B-Hazard, you`re so wrong it hurts.

Regardless of the clips orientation the ball will still have to get back to the man. Hence why either way the clip is played the Dog throws it back.

Note: there is enough passes in the beginning of the clip (without an edit) to rule out any backwards special effects.

-I agree totally from B-Hazard look at the way he catches it too, its played backwards. The dog doesn`t even look likes its moving its head enough to throw it as far as he does.-

Yeah. That`s why I was saying he`d have to be `blowing` or pushing it with his tounge.

And that picture looks like you just poured out some cereal and found out there`s no milk. I have to say I hate when that sh*t happens.

no, it`s not. when it shows the dog from the front you can tell the ball was just dropped into his mouth and played backwards. I mean, for the ball to move like that he`d have to be `blowing` it out at the same time. Unless he has a spring for a tounge.

And please, for the love of god. Just one day without posting videos that come with the `is this real` aspect.

it brings around all the smart people that are too good to read previous comments.
