that`s preety cool, even though as many others have stated, the sensors are preety slow and the idea is sorta pointless

Why is this necessary in life?

It`s cool and all, except who will pay $3000000(or something) for a single door when all you can do is get a door that just slides open...

Still needs some development (the guy didnt set off the ones that his head reached) but ah well, it is cool, and would prevent against fire spreading (I think)

Wow, how utterly useless. It takes me less time to open a normal door and walk through than it does for that piece of crap to open. What happened to automatic doors you see at schools and poo? Those work fine! They open fast enough, they aren`t laggy poo, they work every time, and they probably don`t cost near as much. We really need to nuke Japan again.

Im sure it wouldnt be hard to set these up with a capacitor or something along the sort, so in case of a power outage the door will still work.

I`d rather have one of those chairs that bust and then rebuild themselves. Compared to this, they look like a barrel of laughs.

Because it just SUCKS when you have to fully clear a doorway of the door when you`re only going to go though a small part of it...

They take too long to open! What if you were running? From what i just saw, it takes about a second to open once you pass the censor, but if you run, you`ll break the pieces right off!

how the sh*t did you come to this conclusion?

Seems rather pointless to me,not to mention you`d be utterly screwed if a powercut happened

I heard about this, but when I did, it wasn`t in production yet. It`s supposed to cut down on heating and cooling costs, and reduce airborne polution in buildings. Pretty freakin cool, I don`t care what you say.

I`d buy it but i would modify it so if door-to-door salesman comes he get`s choped up. Also i would install one that only i could control on the floor so that way if i don`t like u they come apart and u fall 20 feet to a pit filled with spikes

yeah...neat concept, but it needs a LOT of work before i`d ever want to use it. having to stand there and wait just isn`t my thing.

Conceptualizing is fun, even if the concepts aren`t always functional or feasable for day-to-day use. Just look at all the weird crap Americans came up with in the 50`s, after all, and their visions of the future (a man in a robot suit to do all your chores).

i see many flaws in it, if you werent standing in a straight up and down line when u walked through youd hit ur body parts all over it where it didnt open cuz it wont see you, plus it takes too long to open

Call me old fasioned but I`m keeping my doors how they are. Why waste all that money on a new one when I can just cover my doorway with straw. Great for quick escapes but not very fire friendy and it is a bugger picking it up again. Peace out.

I couldn`t understand a word they said! Get me a translating door and then, boom, you got my business! :-)

If you had a swinging door you could easily walk through that without stopping. You have to wait for this one to open...pointless.

Needs a faster reaction time. Hey, could you imagine having one in your room? In the middle of getting changed, walk by the door, whoosh! Hi everyone! I`m naked!... Don`t even get me started on bathroom scenarios, heh.

2 things:

Malfunctions could actually chop something in half. And that`s not nice. And yes, it could happen in real life, and no, I haven`t seen Doom.
Also, if there was a power cut you`d be trapped in the room unless it let you also push the door.

So yeah, pointless and actually quite risky.

I dont know it seems kind of pointless.... why not have a full automatic door instead of wasting all those reasources so they open for exact objects.

get the most genius people in the world to invent things which cost loads and what do they do - invent something weve got already !!! WATS THE POINT ??? :@

Too many parts to break, doors take a beating as it is, these doors would last a month in use at a public place, one day at a nightclub

I believe japanese loves to put products on the market for the sake of it. This is uterly useless as such (and obviously does not work the way it should besides being very slow to open). However, this kind of technology could be usefull for energy preservation in walk in freezers for example (despite the fact that a bunch of plastic hanging things do the trick very well). Looks fragile as well... I wouldn`t trust this door to prevent robberies (except with knives comming out and closing on unidentified intruders ... but again, this is my parano-sadist part talking ;0)

Indeed it does, just as any regular door. We should all revert back to beads, I tell you.

Two things made me laugh:

1) The door didn`t open properly and the guy hit his head on one of the upper ones.

2) Someone actually went to see Doom!

How utterly pointless. The only doors technology wise I think are of any worth are the Star Trek style doors, ie automatic doors that open from the middle as you approach, like doors on supermarkets and stuff.

Yeah, definately a slow and laggy door at the moment. You sort of have to stop when your nose is about to touch the door and make sure it opens right and then go through... If they could get it to work better (with more range for sure) this would be really neat, though not the most useful invention... ;)

You know that scene in Doom where that liquid door malfunctions and traps the demon? I`d be afraid this door would suddenly shut while I was halfway through it and chop me in half.

Haha, deffinetally cool, though just slightly pointles. Perhaps on a larger scale, like if it opens eide enough so you can bring a couch in, then that`s handy I suppose.

Still pretty pointless...the change in cool/warm air that gets out of the building will be so small it`d probably take years to pay off something like this. Unless the place gets some pretty heavy traffic
0
Reply
Male 224
i heard about that. It is not pointless they say because it will reduce the amount of bacteria that gets in and will lower the cost of heating/cooling

What, does that mean that if you get a power cut, you wont be able to enter or exit the room?
0
Reply
Female 665
that`s kind of cool though. it senses each part. pointless yes, because you could just have a slab of wood (or glass) for a door, but whatever. at least it`s technology that`s somewhat useful, unlike the new thing that gives flies eyeglasses..
