I can"t help to wonder if this is the best way for NASA to spend our tax money.

the government gave 16.2 billion last year to NASA. there are about 19,000 employees at NASA, so lets assume that none of them are related and they have an average family of 2, plus themselves, 3 total. So it benefits at least 57,000 Americans. I think that`s the most good that comes out of NASA.

I personally hate the space program. We get some good things out of it but they aren`t getting the money they need to do anything amazing, and if they did, they`d splinter it into so many less worth it projects like they have in the past. There are better places to spend the money, even if US money is fake anyway.

by the way, if anyone is interested, go to www.invisiblechildren.com and click the global night commute link at the bottom, and decide if you want to help. its for a good cause, check it out. we need media coverage too. things are happening and the government is getting involved now, but this will give some real support to those working on it.

^^ Nah I doubt alien hordes, that`s ridiculous. Everyone knows that Space Pirates live on the far side of the moon it`s just common knowledge.

I agree that NASA should focus on Mars now. I mean, is the far side of moon really any different than the other side? And haven`t we been there already?

Maybe Bush just wants something done. And NASA wouldn`t be able to land on Mars for at least 15 years.

to those who complain always about how every topic turns into someone bashing the USA, here`s quite a different situation. this is actually a really good thing - the most powerful country in the world pushing the boundaries of science. we owe a lot of our current technology to the north-americans.

This helps to satiate the human need to learn about the world around us . . . the moon is apart of that world around us, and I for one, would rather spend my tax dollars on research in space as opposed to wars on Earth.

I see W has something to do with it.. So in 2 years, we will be working on this with no progress, overspend, people will die, and we`ll find out that there really is no far side of the moon!

dear god, don`t base the mission on any though Bush ever had. but they`d better get craking on a "base" in which we can one day live. as i`d love to know my great great great great great grandchildren have a place to live, once this place is done for.
