The States should change it to 18.

And most provinces in Canada it`s 19.

I imagine a lot of the conditions in Europe are in relation to the fact that in many European countries you may drink wine and beer at 16 but not spirits until ur 18.

There are lots of loop-holes, in the UK you can have booze if your parents let you and in a restaurant with a meal when your over 16. It`s just another example of when people consider you responsible enough as more of an adult or more of a child?

Pretty useless for me considering I`m over 21.

And the drinking age does need to be lowered to 18 in the US. There`s no reason for it. You can join the military and fight for your country at 18 but you can`t buy a beer until you`re 21?! Makes no sense.

I think that the US is really screwed up with the drinking age thing.

How stupid is it, that you can`t go and order a bottle of water from a bar, ONLY IF YOU ARE 21. YOU CANT EVEN STAND BY THE BAR.

what i can see ALCOHOLIC drinks. OH MY GOD!!! so what?!

    HOW STUPID IS THAT.

fun story, i was in las vegas with my parents. and we took one of those helicopter sight seing tours. The tour inclusing a little picnic by the grand canyon. anyway the pilot was serving th drinks and stuff. and as a joke asked me if i want some Champagne, after asking all the adult members. And i was like OK, and he just smiled back. So i got my parents to ask him for some. The expression on his face was pricless.

anyways where i come from legal age is 18. Im 15 and it`s totally acceptable to drink.

    They serve you everywhere.

It`s true that people in other countries drink more responsibly. For instance, My german friend. She says there is no drinking age limit in Germany. She also doesn`t look to drinking like it`s some sort of taboo.

Lowering the age and teaching people to drink responsibly like in other cultures might lower the amount of under 21 DUI`s too...kids won`t drink excessively like they do now.

Lol I sound old, I`m only 21. I see no big deal in drinking. Never have. Drink for the drink. Not the drunkness I say. Drink it slow and savor it. Then it becomes difficult to get drunk.

The age for Norway is wrong. The age limit is 18 for drinks under 22% alcohol and 20 for those drinks over 22%.
The funny thing is that for vodka and other spirits over 22% theres a rule that you can not be served more than 4cl per drink. You can not buy a double. But if you buy a 21,9% vodka you can buy a mug of it!
btw... a 0,4l of beer in Norway costs US$8 at bars, and up to US$11 in nightclubs and bars with outside catering in the summer.

    In the stores a
0,33l beer will cost you US$1,60
1,00l Absolut Vodka will cost you US$ 59,30

actually, alchohol is good for you in small amounts. like, a glass of wine. thats the problem in america. *stupid* kids count the frig`n seconds until they can drink and then get plastered out of their mind when they hit 21. its absolutly pathetic. whereas in most of europe alchohol isnt a humoungous taboo and people have wine with dinner and things like that fairly often. notice i said MOST of europe. but we can`t change the law here in the states because than everyone in the country would get drunk simultaniously (impossible word to spell), which would be bad. then again, people would die }-)

the think is, if you are 14 in holland (where i live), it`s possible to get drunk, BUT because your 14/15, you don`t have much money to spend, so you can`t drink a lot. if you`re 21 and can start the drinking, you`ll waste a lot of money, because you`ll have more money, resulting in alcohol intoxication and stuff like that.
also, if i read something about alcohol in the USA, it`s always
    1: you don`t drink
2: you drink, and people think your an alcoholic.
i`m not trying to promote alcohol use, but i am trying to let you realize that 21 is way too old, and causes other problems.

oh geez alcohol destroys your brain cells in small amounts or large amounts....they change the rules all the time...like when they said eating an all atkins diet was good for you until people started having heart problems...people can get alcohol anywhere it`s not that hard...though I respect the drinking age...so people don`t start screwing up their lives before they need to. anywho not everyone in the us drinks for the purpose to be drunk...but even the smallest amount can make someone tipsy because it slows down coordination

anyone who chooses to drink alcohol should be rid of all their rights and thrown in a camp where they are beaten daily and told to labor for little of nothing because they made the choice to throw their lives away. either that or make a choice to join the military where they will be forced to fight. (killed if they refuse). people who choose to drink alcohol are so dam stupid they are not worth being shat on. all they are doing it for is for attention, and satisfaction (because they have none in life if they choose to do so). because of that negative outlook they are useless and will one day be 25 with that alcoholic look on their face that makes them look like 52 and their skin hangs to the ground and they are so dam sorry they live off the real people`s tax dollars. it should be the worst outlawed thing and one should be shot on the spot even if they are SUSPECTED for alcohol. ... This is why im not your president..

BTW, I have a co-worker on a work study program from Ireland who is underage here. Apparently, there is some law that allows you to use your passport in the U.S. that allows you to purchase alchohol if you`re of age where you come from. I don`t know if it`s entirely true, but he had some wild parties.

Our drinking age is arbitrary, by the way. It`s based off of the age at which a squire would generally be knighted, 21. That`s it. Great logic, right? There`s nothing scientific about the magical ages of 18 and 21.

Makes me wonder if I would be such a drunk if it had been legal for me to drink when i was younger. I would just drink really fast straight from the bottle and then be on my way. It gets you drunk quick and you don`t see it coming, because you drank it too fast for it to effect you before you stopped drinking.

Damn, it`s the American government`s fault that I drink excessively and then wander around making a fool of myself!

Also, the whole idea with you guys not wanting 18 year olds to be drunk ass holes? HA. Its just like in my government class in my freshmen year...(junior now)We were debating on Gay Marrige and some guy said I don`t want gays and lesbians walkin around. Well guess what people? They`re gonna walk around anyway! Minors are going to drink anyway!

The diffence between the Gay marrige thing in drinking is, Gay marrige being legal will not lower the amount of them getting married. If the government lowered the drinking age, us teenagers wouldn`t be able to rebel as much, we`d find some thing else. I personally think (as in MY opinion) that if the drinking age were lowered to 18 there would be less DUI`s than there is now.

Thats just my two cents (Two post)

The National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 required all states to raise their minimum purchase and public possession of alcohol age to 21. States that did not comply faced a reduction in highway funds under the Federal Highway Aid Act.... It does not prohibit persons under 21 (also called youth or minors) from drinking. The term "public possession" is strictly defined and does not apply to possession for the following:

An established religious purpose, when accompanied by a parent, spouse or legal guardian age 21 or older
Medical purposes when prescribed or administered by a licensed physician, pharmacist, dentist, nurse, hospital or medical institution
    In private clubs or establishments
In the course of lawful employment by a duly licensed manufacturer, wholesaler or retailer.

How stupid is it, that you can`t go and order a bottle of water from a bar, ONLY IF YOU ARE 21. YOU CANT EVEN STAND BY THE BAR.

XDDDDD Really? My Dad brought me to the bar when my mum was away when I was like 5 or 6! I used to play outside or he would give me 50c to use on the lil sratch card thingy!
