Holy crap. I`d pay $50 more for a hotel with a nice comfy bed and lots of room over that any day.

The guy should have tucked it in taped it up or something before doing all those gymnastic poses...and about the hotel it kinda sucks...unless you can afford a real hotel room

Saw this in a documentary the other day, seems like a last resort because it has to be noisy and uncomfortable.

On a crowded island getting more crowded by the year, capsule hotels make some amount of sense.

This somehow reminds me of the capsule sleeping quarters on the spaceship in The Fifth Element, though this capsule has a stronger airline-like ambience to it.

I wouldn`t mind one of those. Seems practical, I don`t need a whole room just to sleep, and it`s cheap.
BTW, the reason they don`t allow tatoos is because in Japan if you have a tatoo they automatically assume you`re in the yakuza (mafia.) Probably wouldn`t apply if you`re a foreigner cause there`s not many foreginers in the yakuza, but they will still hold it against you.
Also, the men-only thing is probably because it`s so close-quarters.

Wow. That would suck.

No wonder Japanese people are so short. Seems that have to be.

What the devil does Yao Ming do? Stay in a hollowed-out SUV?

Poor Gaijin in Nippon. The weekends is where the perversions start (ladies are allowed). I saw an episode of the Tom Green Monkey Show thing where he went to Japan and went to one of these hotels. It was hilarious.

For about $40/night, (Y120/$1) when the next cheapest hotel is $90/night here in San Diego, I though tabout opening something similar here. But... longer capsules (8 feet min), better soundproofing, a door on the capsule, and a locker co-located with the unit. In a party town like San Diego, all you do is sleep it off in a hotel. And at 8 foot, with a door, there`s enough room to get busy.

I would honestly rather sleep outside, on the sidewalk, in a snow storm.....

Imagine if a claustrophobic stayed in that hotel...

looks like a clever way for the hospitality industry to charge you tons of money for a little space, and cuz of that theres more "capsules" ripping off the average dumb tourist for less space and poo

I`d never fit in one if they`re only 6` long. I`d hang way out and that would suck. I`d like to see it in person, but I wouldn`t be staying there. I probably wouldn`t for other reasons anyway though.

Don`t worry about clicking on the pic, it`s not a sabotage, that`s what I thought at first, but it`s just a series of pictures of the guy in his capsule, nothing scary.
