Is our design really that intellegent?

Evolution doesn`t mean that we`re not perfect, only idiots think that. If things were perfectly suited to their environment, they wouldn`t evolve at all. Environment changes constantly, those organisms that do not change fast enough are subject to extinction.

Rasputen, that would depend on what you mean by efficient. Look at the shark, for example. It is arguably a perfect predator. It has not evolved at all in 250 million years.

As for creationism/intelligent design, I don`t buy it. My interest and education in science has led me to believe that religious explanations for the origin of life are lazy. When people in ancient superstitioius times couldn`t figure out how something worked, they simply attributed it to a god. I think that instead of relying on a god to explain what we do not understand, we should research and observe our world more. We have learned a huge amount about our universe just in the last 10 years alone.

Odd that we haven`t had any creationist rants on this thread yet.

Fact is, it is too hot inside the body, so the scrotum is on the outside. Now, on one hand, you say, what a mistake, but, on the other, it was the smart thing to do. If you want to argue that we evolved instead of created perfectly, that`s off the real question, because OBVIOUSLY the genes have modified the body from something previous. If something is improved in order to functionally procreate, then there`s intelligent design, despite the flaws. That there is more that works than there is flaws says something, right? My thinking is that there is SOMETHING that knows what it`s doing, and not just random nonsense that just happens to work.

"it`s the survival of the fittest and all that."
presicely so humans could have
A: spoiled ourselves so idiots also survived
or
B: there is a forgotton advantage to those things. :)

I acknowledge that incompetent design is not being presented as a valid scientific theory as much as a mockery of intelligent design, but I must say that it is crap. The nature of evolution creates a scenario in which no life form is ever at its maximum efficiency. The process of progress inherently suggests “improvement” through change and therefore starts at one point and undergoes enhancement. If any life form was completely efficient in say burning energy, would they still have energy for the building of muscle mass? If something were 100% efficient, would it ever die? The whole bloody system would break down and with that in mind, I could not call it incompetent. The individual changes flaws he mentions could be next on the ol’ evolution chopping block for all we know. I am completely an evolutionist but taking this “theory” as anything more than a joke is silly.

Right you are, SpoonFork. And shame on these incompetent designers for not designing a tolerant cooling system.

...I don`t have a problem with people being religous, it can be good psycologically, but pushing ID as if its sceince? Thats just wrong. Beleive it if you want but its just a theory, a religious, not sceintific one, and therefore does not belong in a science class.

Testicles are on the outside because they would fry on the inside, killing all our precious swimmers, severely hampering our genes` ability to procreate. And, bringing that up, I see a lot of intelligent design by the genes alone, even without bringing God into the equation. How did these genes get so smart?

Testicles on the outside pretty much affirms this observation, in my opinion.

Pointless? To discuss and debate our ultimate natures is pointless?

Here`s a fact: science tells us only about HOW a human being functions. That`s it--period. Everything else is speculation, end of discussion.

Only 3? Pelvis, teeth, skull? I was hoping for more. I do think it`s a little premature to say there is NO intelligent design based on this, however. So far it just looks like we changed. I mean, does that mean a monkey is intelligently designed, since he has the proper anatomy? Bravo for humanity, then, for expanding beyond their purpose of being merely another animal.

How tolerant of alternative ideas you all are!

The design is driven by the intent, right? So, who`s to say we aren`t designed to some purpose other than what this guy, or any other person may want?

Just askin`

Good stuff. I hadn`t heard of this theory before, but it`s a very compelling argument.

I`ve heard that there is a creationist museum in my home town, I should go there some time to see what they have to say. Should be fun

aliencase, evolution isn`t random - it`s the survival of the fittest and all that.

I`d love to see the intelligent design freaks argue these things away.

IDers do not understand science. The claims they make about science are, frankly, lies. Lies meant to confuse and confound people, so they might swallow what IDers are pumping.

IDers are about nothing less than the destruction of science itself.

I don`t approve the fact that this man take credit for a really old idea. My teacher in design history used the same arguments, so this has been around for quite some time.

Anyway. Creationists are rather pathetic, but then again: That`s how the Lord designed them.

Yes I agree. Only an idiot would have designed us so poorly, which reminds me of the old saying:

"Science has proof without any certainty. Creationists have certainty without any proof."

Ah yes. I saw that on TransBuddha a while back, and now it`s making the rounds on the Temple Univeristy campus.

I hate my poorly-designed sinuses. They`re always filling with obscene ammounts of fluid and making me feel HORRID.
