Only a true "master" of guitar can play all styles imaginable and still have the style and feeling in their music. Guys like John5, Joe Satriani and Paul Gilbert can show you what a multitude of styles really is.

Listen, NOTHING is hard in the end, its just the time it takes to master the technique, thats all thats difficult.

And skill goes with style. If you play metal then your skill develops in fast runs and heavy rhythm picking. If you play jazz you develop your skill in scales, bending notes and such.

You can`t say that James Hetfield (Metallica) is better than Jimi Hendrix (or vice versa), they have completely different styles of music with different techniques implemented in their music.
So maybe it`s not hard for you, but the time it would take to master what he does takes commitment and time.

Here is the lowdown - Critics compare and criticize, artists admire. Look around, most ARTISTS don`t run around saying they are better then anyone else, they admire the energy people put into whatever they do. My question to you anyone is - which one are you?

I`m sure he could teach Steve Vai a few of his tricks. I`ve never seen a guitar played in that way before and out of all Vai`s tracks i`ve never heard something as awesome as that.

I`d say this guy knows is stuff, and he has a bloody nice guitar aswell.

I think we should bring our attention to a serious problem: people that didn`t see the sarcasm in manorrd`s post on the first page. You people are a terrible thing, reminds me of the gullible little 10 year olds in camp. Fluffed notes? what the heck are you TALKING about? Can`t you read? On top of the illiteracy here, people don`t get jazz. It`s not called jazz when you "miss a note." "hes not even concentrating cos he plays jazz" listen man, jazz is ALL concentration. In a trio, its all about the inter-connection between the players and their instruments. In a guy going solo like this, although there is a sense of who-cares attitude, it doesn`t stop musicians from making the right note. Its how they pull the note off, which in this case, very well, that makes the song. It`s all about the "Interplay" (Great jazz song btw) between every aspect of the music. There`s a lot of crap being said, and I think before you start talking it, you should be making sure

Buckethead? Are you serious?

Buckethead?

How stupid do you think we are?

Stanley Jordan vs. Buckethead? Isn`t that rather like your intellect and mine clashing? In that you would lose so badly that there is no need for a competition.

Oh my God. I`ve got to call all of my friends. This dude actually believes "Buckethead" plays better than Stanley Jordan.

I suppose you think that "Buckethead" could play circles around Django Rheinhardt, too? And I`m assuming that you`d put that Wes Borland could just make Big Bill Broozny look stupid?

I`ve never seen such depth of stupidity.

I`ve seen Jordan live several times, and he is incredible (along with most every player mentioned as "genious" on this comment string). If this video is of Jordan (and it certainly appears to be), then I would geuss it`s a bit older due to the skill exhibted in the video versus Jordan`s current skill and demeanor (but that`s just a guess). Regardless, whoever this guy is, whenever it was filmed, it was a painfully skilled performance compared to what most mortals can do. And what`s the point of comparing SRV or EVH or Vai to this video? There`s no useful comparison whatsoever other than that they all play(ed) strats. The style, technique and execution are so completely different the discussusion is pointless. Can`t they all be super-human good and leave it at that?

Excuse me while I go woodshed for another 10 years to hope to even breath the same air as that guy... |-(

Actually arguing that it ISNT Stanley Jordan shows how uneducated you really are.
He does appear to be very young in this clip. And I`ve been listening to him since the mid 80s.

Ok, so bigoldjeffry has a way of stating things that perhaps isn`t the most tactful in the world - but he`s right in saying:
"No you couldn`t. You couldn`t do better.
I don`t give a rat`s filthy a*ss how long you`ve been playing." Yep. So clearly he finds teenagers (shout-out to zoinks here) saying "I could do dat!" as annoying as I do, and chops to him for cutting them off at the knees!

What kind of a stupid thing is that to say?

Of course opinions can be wrong:

"I think the sky is green."
"It`s not green. It`s blue."
"So? It`s green. That`s just my opinion!"

Ignorance = bliss. I suppose if you`re stupid, you`re happy being stupid. Enjoy your pitiful life, `thecranberry.`

Once again, Mr. Genius prove himself to be a twat.

I totally agree with Enohead. Generally, this type of music don`t appeal to me. A good guitarist ain`t someone who can play 15000 notes a second, its someone who plays memorable tunes. See: John frusciante, James Dean Bradfield, John Squire, even Noel Gallagher. Not technically fantastic guitarists, but very entertaining.

Malevolent00 (learn to capitalize) and MagnussHolar (what a stupid name):

Your opinions are wrong. Period. Deal with it. Nothing will change the fact that you are wrong. Get it, yet? Wrong. W.R.O.N.G. As in--not right. As in--you are WRONG.

SRV was a wonderfully gifted player, a man who really explored the sonic capabilities of his instrument. His covers of Hendrix, T-Bone Walker, Albert King, and other artists were amazing. But, despite your worship, he was a limited player.

That was, my son, Stanley Jordan. He is an amazing jazz player.

If you are self-taught, then it`s clear that you don`t even have the knowledge to make the kinds of claims that you`re making. Do a little reading on music history before you come to class, kid. You might learn something.

Stanley Jordan is a well known jazz guitarist. Ask Petrucci, Vai, and any of the others and they will tell you he is indeed a master.
He has been doing CD`s for years, check for some Mp3s.
His performace of Stairway to Heaven on Carson (Yes Carson) is remarkable. The man plays two guitars at once. (One is mounted on a stand)
His fingers must be like tiny hammers.
