did you hear how kelly clarkson was really rude and said she could have gotten to where she is without american idol...which is bullpoo because they made her over and she can`t sing very well...it`s just that she knows connections now from american idol...I can`t believe she would be such an a hole

"Colonel" Harland Sanders . . . businessman; founder-spokesperson of the "Kentucky Fried Chicken" fast-food restaurant chain (homeless at age 10 when his mother remarried and he left home due to altercations with his stepfather/car as an adult; slept in the backseat nightly because he could not afford lodging as he traveled around the United States and Canada, sometimes with his wife Claudia, trying to sign up restaurants to use his special fried chicken recipe for a franchise licensing fee).

What an entrepreneur... Colonel Sanders is my hero.

I heard Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong- from the tv shows "Nash Bridges" and "That 70`s Show", also from the marijuana movies- were homeless guys who met some actor then became famous. I wonder if they were left off the list or if it was just a lie?

They got my avatar for william shatner.

"outdoor camping in a tent with his family in the backyard of the home of his older married sister, Patricia Carrey"
lmao, poor Jim Carey. It`s kinda messed up that his own sister wouldn`t let him and their parents sleep inside.

Kurt Cobain?! KURT COBAIN?! I seriously didn`t know he was homeless. That surprised me most.

Where`s Marshal Mathers (Eminem)? He lived in the ghetto in Detroit for a long time.

Ummm, Kelly Clarkson living in her car for 2 whole days then a shelter for "several" days because of her apartment catching fire isnt being "Homeless".

I hope to make this list one day.
Dont think of it as homelessness, think of it as houselessness...I`ve lived on the street, in cars, and in the woods of in on around the country for going on 4 years.....It just kind of happens....From experiance the streets are much easier then the shelters....there drating deranged....if you really need shelter there are always squats...no head to pack youyrself in those hell-houses.
Oh and by the way whoever said that poo about getting out of it therough hardwork and determanation.....I call bullpoo....everyone I knew got out of it through luck...including myself.....when your homeless the key to surviveing will is to keep moveing ...drift from place to place...the longer you stay in one place the more miserable the conditions become...It`s very hard to build yourself up...especially since in most cases you need an address to get a job....unless you go to an employmet agency which pockets half your pay, sending you differant places every day.

Yeah, most of those were so stupid. I couch hopped for a month and only had to end up sleeping on park benches for two nights. I do not consider myself to have ever been homeless. I don`t think couch hopping counts, and two days is nothing. I`ve been "more homeless" than half the people on this list.

I tell you, there are a lot of things about celebrities not many people are aware of.
For instance, did you know that Tom Cruise used to be a man?

Traci Lords is listed as an "actress-singer-songwriter; American author; former model". lol

Some of them were self-imposed, so does that really count? IDK, it`s nice that they were able to get on their feet and be successful after being homeless.

Jim Carrey, Drew Carey, William Shatner, Martin Sheen, Kelly Clarkson and Shania Twain surprised me the most. Another thing that surprised me was the low number of rappers who`ve been homeless... then again, the list would just be filled with rappers...

i agree with Brant167 to an extent, but a few of them were self-imposed homelessness, i dont think that would count towards the american dream.. that and not all of them were american

The point wasn`t to feel bad but to point out the American dream of going from poor to rich with hard work and sacrifice (or luck in some cases).

Some people on here are so insensitive...

Bobby Driscoll . . . Oscar-winning actor (as child star); the original voice of Walt Disney`s 1953 Peter Pan animated movie (died alone of a heart attack at age 31 in a vacant tenement building in New York City).

That`s right, feel bad you losers...

Wow. I never knew that Drew Carey had been homeless. I`m happy I`ve never had to be without a place to live. I`m smart enough to appreciate what I have and to feel sympathy for those who`ve had to do without shelter.

Look at the ignorance above this post . . .

People with no sympathy make me want to kill myself.

by that i mean they don`t really compare to those who had to live on the streets for months or years at a time.
