The reason you only can do this in the US, is the same reason US customers never got the hang of SMS in the first place: The price model. Pretty much everywhere else in the world it is the sender that pays, because that`s the logical thing. But in the US it`s the receiver that pays (correct me if I`m wrong), so it doesn`t cost Google a dime to make this program.

Silly thing it`s costing anything, actually.

well there are british sites that do this aswell- anyone on tiscali can send texts but only 3 a day. well, when it comes to it u might aswell just email somebody instead of texting them through the computer...

I love all these webpages that come out with ways to text message from their site and they say that you`ll still be charged from your service provider. AIM is free...just click on "send instant message" and in the To: box type in "+1" followed by areacode and cell number..so like "+18602767564" without the quotes..you can text as much as you want from your screen name for free...thats the US anyways, i dont know if it works anywhere else.

For those asking, it doesn`t cost anything to send the actual message. But I have Cingular, and I know they charge $.10 for opening any text messages. And when I tested it on my phone, it barely took two seconds to get the text I sent myself.

This is so much better than trying to type out text messages on my phone. I remember getting annoyed that it would take forever just to send one sentence. I hardly send texts though, but if I do, I`m going to be doing it this way instead. This way is a lot faster.

That`s also a add-on for Firefox. It puts a phone up in the upper right corner of the browser page that when clicked on gives you the same options as this post.
