M106D, that is the lamest first post ever. I`ve heard of the Golden Ratio before but didn`t connect it with the iPod. Any article that starts with "The Apple iPod is the world’s most beautiful MP3 player" is fine by me!
Uh, anyone with a calculator can find all the "proof" you want the dimensions of the iPod are easily obtainable online, and basic familiarity with fractions will let you find the Golden Ratio all by yourself. If you want "proof" of the Golden Ratio, just Google it, for heaven`s sake it has a long history in both mathematics and art. If you would rather listen to some idiot teenaged boy, though, then go ahead and give yourself a slap in the face...
Intresting, i knew about the golden ratio and how much it is used around us, but never figured it would go as far as to be integrated into ipod design.
Monday, January 09, 2006 4:09:03 AM ^^^ seriously what proof? u mean a RULER?? please remove head from ass before posting.
seriously, did you read his post? he said the demenntions were available online. now you dont need a RULER you need a CALCULATOR to do the division. seriously. before you critisize someone make sure YOUR head is out of your ass. Personally i already knew this. it was a main theme in "the davinci code" so after i read it i looked into it and found many things that have it. congrats to buddy for finding this article
"Saying that the ipod has “the perfect design” is idiotic anyway. That’s like saying the Mona Lisa was the perfect painting. There is no “perfect” in art. There is just good and not so good. Both lying in the eye of the viewer"...
Personally i already knew this. it was a main theme in "the davinci code" so after i read it i looked into it and found many things that have it.
Same here. Didn`t read the article, but I know the Golden Ratio is real. One example (from The Da Vinci Code) is to measure from your shoulder to your middle fingertip, and divide that by the distance from your elbow to your fingertip (I`m pretty sure that`s it) and you`ll get 1.618. http://www.iambored.com/bored_link.cfm...
Yeup, I learned all about the Golden Ratio in Art History at university. It`s pretty interesting once you get your head around it. A lot of Gothic church roofs and spires were created using the ratio. Many plants and shells are naturally formed with this ratio too!
I learned about the Golden Ratio in my seventh grade prealgebra math class...I`m surprised so many of you haven`t heard of it. And I went to a public school too.
golden ratio creates the golden rectangle. What they forgot to say was if you remove a square from that rectangle, what remains is another golden rectangle.
And another thing, if this ratio is so important, how come they only have it to 3 decimal places?
francesux. the reason you use the exact measurements is to get to those exact decimals. it makes sence to use a more accurate means, and if the company provides the dementions for you, why should you do the measurements, its lunacy.
The golden ratio is definately real but there`s much more to it than explained in this article. There is like mentioned the Fibonacci sequence and the golden rectangle which a rectangle that when cut a certian way can repeat itself indefinetly. And the golden rectangle isn`t just found in the ipod. It can be found virtually anywhere in the world. Women even wear high heels to try and become porportioned to the golden rectangle. The Greeks were espcially obsessed about the golden ration and made all of their buildings in porportion to them.
yeh! davinci code! good book, i recommend it. and the first one, angels and demons, even better in my opinion. but wow, yeh, thinking bout it i hate ipods cos everyones got them n the headphones SUCK but it does look really good.

Makes sense though.

And the `proof` is the fact that the iPod comes close to being a rectangle that uses the golden ratio.

(BOTH of the links above were found on the page that was originally posted on IAB)

...I posted links explaining the ratio and why it`s `interesting`
and any site that talks about golden ratios without touching the fibonacci sequence is pretty much crap.
And another thing, if this ratio is so important, how come they only have it to 3 decimal places?
And I beleive your eye wouldn`t be able to distiguish 1.618 from 1.6185 so anything beyond the third doesn`t matter.
umm, a number can stop at any decimal place it needs to. a number that is important is pi, and that number never ends
