We are made to believe to perceive cover girls as enviously perfect, on one hand we are easily deceived by the uglier facade showed in the "before Photoshop". The lesson here is: Print aesthetics is incomparable with the imperfect real world, real bodies and real faces we have. Photograph technology has a lot to offer, in presenting an ideal figure for us to admire or envy. Now a simple touch of electronic magic is all we need to appear eternally young and beautiful. Or it can destroy originality and caricature personalities. We must have discerning eye to view things around us and judge them just not as how they appear but judge them according to their societal value.
"I`ll show you a fu.cking woman in the kitchen! I`ll stick you in a God Damn pot and brew you! Women don`t BELONG in the kitchen...Fu.ck...if it weren`t for women...you wouldn`t be alive you self-conceited little bast.erd!!! Your mother did not raise you to be a sexist little bast.erd!!"
I think sombody is angry. Possibly.
"Women belong in the kitchen" is basically saying "Women are better at cooking". Just see it in a different way and it almost becomes a compliment.
One thing is certain, and that is the fact I do not belong in the kitchen. Unless you want food Poisioning.
Anyway, if people want to waste all their money on stuff to make them look "good" then let them. It`s their money. The silly people.
I thought the before pic looked nicer than the after pic. As for what Akajune said, I guess not showing your marital status and sexual preference shows you`re ashamed of both of them. This shows in how you`re putting down the gay community!

Western US "1045 Posts Sunday, December 18, 2005 8:06:43 AM Meh, they pretend like the media is forcing people to find these touched up images attractive. They are just creating an image that we already want to see. "
The media does influence our stnadards of beauty. The people of Fiji were for the most part very overweight, and felt fine about themselves. After the television started being used on a large scale in Fiji, more and moreof the population developed eating disorders, depression, and a low self-esteem.
ha, i have a freind models, and to be honest with you, she is actually not that good looking. Yes she is skinney and perfect, but just not hot. She has photoshoped pictures of her and she looks incredible! (she remindes me of the fanta girls) it really is amazing what they can do with computers. Also i do believe that the before picture was photoshoped to make her teeth and cheeks worse than they actually are.
The before is maybe extreme. I work in a photo shop and a lot of people`s snapshots look like that. Model shots are usually better.
But... women of all ages tend to *hate* how they look in photos because the photos look like that girl`s before shot. And we expect to look like Cosmo covers. That girl was pretty, even in that ugly shirt with yellow teeth.
Meh, they pretend like the media is forcing people to find these touched up images attractive. They are just creating an image that we already want to see. I hate to say it but anyone who says that appearances don’t matter is either lying or in denial. A persons’ appearance is their most prominent feature. Most of the people who you will ever talk to will have seen you first and get to know you second. If I see someone who is really overweight with unkempt hair, neglected skin and teeth, and sloppy clothes I will assume that that person has little discipline or self-esteem and nothing to offer me as a partner in either business or romance. Besides, being mindful of your looks can be healthy. Particularly in the US, where we have an ungodly rate of child obesity. Maybe if children see adoration towards people who stay fit they won’t let themselves turn into goo by the time they hit thirteen.

two things to say: rckjmesbjtch, go be creepy somewhere else. you are hitting on minors. one of them i have no idea HOW minor (england rocks) but a fourteen year old? jesus christ. 2. ITS NOT REAL. THE MAGAZINE IS NOT A REAL ISSUE OF COSMOPOLITAN READ THE STUPID TITLE THINGS! THEY ALL SAY THINGS LIKE "look at my huge boobs" (not really that, but...whatever) ANYONE WHO IS SAYING SHE DIDNT REALLY LOOK LIKE THAT IS STUPID WITH A SUPER DOOPER CAPITAL S. LIKE, MORE CAPITAL THEN IT ALREADY IS!!!! THEY JUST PULLED IN SOME RANDOM TEEN MODEL HOPEFULL AND DID EVERYTHING THEY COULD TO MAKE HER FAKE. was caps lock on that entire time? silly me...
1. Can someone get more info on the 14-year-old model? That has to bee total bullsh.t
2. They totally overexaggerated the before model. I`m pretty sure the model didn`t look that bad (no offense but if she`s on the cover of some beauty mag then she can`t have yellow, grimey teeth).

that`s why I don`t read anymore cosmo, it`s soo obvious that the photos are fake! it`s like watching plastic models, well, some are... and there`s not such a thing as perfect people in the real world, we all have and make mistakes from time to time, (I know I do haha).
by the way lordjonathan, I hope that by next year you find the girl of your dreams.

Even if you are true goaliejerry, that doesn`t mean it happens in real life. When magazines, and other forms of media, do that, it just raises the standard for how we need to look. And, even if thta site was fake, you can`t deny that that happens in real life.
i agree with you goaliejerry, no way that a 14 year old girl could look like that. they anti-reverse-photoshopped her. and for_serious? you dont need to change a thing, because when i see you, i want photoshop to die.
Frankly, since they admit they are trying to "prove a point" I think they actually photoshopped her to make her look worse - I think her before picture is faker. Like her "before" cheeks look fake as hell, and her "before" teeth look sick, too sick for me to believe. And they fatten her up. I think they are full of poo. I`m not denying this happens, surely it does, but they were out to convince people of something, and I think they lied to do it. She probably doesn`t look as bad as they photoshopped her to look.
i heard they also do this in movies so when you see a pretty girl shes not really whom she seems to be its sad that teenagers and younger women think that they have to look a certain way to be noticed in the end the women they see are fake and by the way some of you men/boys who made comments about staying in the kitchen you must be about 80 and alone with your old azz dog the only companion that would put up with ya (cause he`s deaf anyways)
^^ that`s me by the way. I forgot I made a profile ages ago when I had to use my brother`s computer, and that`s what I`m on right now. Notice I like my nickname? :-P
I love this! I used to make those changes myself (I`m pretty good at that), but now I think, why I have to? By the way, LordJonathan, think before you say stupid things like that. You`ll soon be only with your computer without a girlfriend!
It really does show how shallow society is now doesnt it? That it`s so fixed on appearance that even when someone looks good, that`s not good enough :/
Whoa...cut down on the belonging in the kitchen routine, thats a lil cold! Yea but now my girl can maybe believe me when she sees this and realize that models dont just look great like nothing....its mainly fake...People do need to open their eyes to the real world and not the COVER UP media provides us
Yeah well, if people would just get a CLUE and realize that you can be beautiful in photos and EXTREMELY emotional and artistic WITHOUT looking like a supermodel (Look at all the glamorous girls from the 60`s 70`s 80`s) we`d be a little better off...

That`s just strange.
Why do so much of this editing poo?
YOU`RE GREAT AS YOU ARE!
i hate the media....i`m so fed up with all these "perfect women" on tv and posters.

Gotta watch out for those youngsters.

They should say if the image was altered
