Well that thing was a test probably, it`s staged anyway. But some trees could set fire as fast as that, with the wrong bulbs I guess.

It`s amazing to me how many people here have never tried to use their tree as firewood after the fact. The needles on the tree are very agressive burners. You put a branch in the fireplace once, and you learn your lesson. This video was probably made as a PSA

That look so fake, but after a while I thought how could thier just so happen to be a video-camera right their at that moment. How stupid. If this was a educational film, how are we saposed 2 learn from it, buy not buying x-mass trees

btw...for all of you who are realived to have a fake tree...plastic trees, at least, have been proven to be a lot more dangerous then real trees; even more flammable, depending on the cause of fire.

The logo is NIST, National Institute of Standards and Technology. This is a staged demonstration to show how quickly a fire can start and spread. It`s staged but not fake, and no accelerants were used. A dry tree can go up that fast. I use dry pine needles to start fires in the fireplace all the time. A small bed of dry pine needles under the wood is all it takes to get it going, and one match will light them with no problem.
Yay. I watched someone`s home (or at least part of their home) get destroyed. I feel so much better now. (P.S. I am so glad we don`t have a real tree)
Judging my the camera placement, it was obviously a saftey demo, not somebody`s actual home.

Dry Christmas trees literally explode. A few years ago, after our tree sat out in the yard for a while (drying out) I deciding to use some of the wood as firewood in a bonfire. It was amazing to see how it instantly exploded when I threw it on the fire.

This has been said before- but I myself have participated in a test like this I can attest to the fact that it is not faked. It is not photoshoped. It is not sped up. The tree was not doused in flamible chemicles. Certain live trees, and most plastic trees will blaze up just that fast. The design allows for a particularly speedy fire. The camera was placed there strategically in a fire proof case. The spark was triggered off site, built with common electical appliances and a simple node that creates a spark.

The video almost looks sped up. I also doubt that it is faked though. Obviously you guys haven`t burned a pine branch in a campfire before. The needles go like gasoline.

A bit slightly skewed. This test was done in a small room: evident due to the way the smoke rolled off of the nearest wall. However, there was also sufficient airflow to keep the fire going even with all of the deoxegenated air (smoke).

This test is what would happen if the conditions were just right to BBQ your house. But it does shw us what "could" happen, should we have a few too many egg nog this season.

Stay safe these holidays.

Hmm. Looking at the video, the fire starts at the base of the tree. Inside and below the rim of the bucket/tree/stand. I didn`t see a spark from further up in the tree from faulty lights fall into the bucket, so it seems from this video footage the fire was intentionally started with a source for the purposes of the film. It wouldn`t make sense to stand your tree in a base of anything but water and or some bedding soil. That being the case, I`m curious about the source of the ignition. Dried potting soil/tree ignited by a unseen ember or a flare set by the filmers?

No it`s not. It`s 100% real time, dry x-mas tree, insta-bonfire

Hmm, I think I remember drawing a comic once where the tree went up in flames like that. They were decorating this huge tree inside a space ship, and somehow the tree instantaneiously went up in flames unprovoked just to spite one of the characters. Then fell on them (how the the ship didn`t explode/implode, I dunno).
If instantaneous human combustion exists, then maybe instantaneous tree (arborus?) combustion too? Heck, you could even have instantaneous dog or even monkey combustion! I think I`ll use that the next time someone tries to argue instantaneous human combustion exists, just because I can :P

Nothing is wrong with having a real tree, just don`t light it on fire.

OMG wow! Since I moved out from my mum`s house, I`ve not had a christmas tree...although she`s always had a fake one.
My oma and opa told me stories about their xmas` as kids in Holland...people used to put real candles on the ends of the branches, so quite often you`d see flaming trees go flying out windows into the snow...sounds funny to watch, but not if you`re the one throwing.

It`s not a fake, and no flammable liquids were used. My husband used to teach firefighting and this is all too true. As Pips12 said, safety labs do these kinds of experiments to test safety of Xmas lights, flammability of different upholstery fabrics, etc.

I think that the camera was placed there on purpose. They do all sorts of test for items in the house and how fast they burn. It was probably a test therefore there most likely wouldn`t have been a flammable liquid on the tree. Who knows!!!

No way can a tree turn into a flamethrower like that. There must have been some sort of flammable liquid added.
