ARGUMENT FROM BLINDNESS (II)
(1) God is love.
(2) Love is blind.
(3) Stevie Wonder is blind.
(4) Therefore, Stevie Wonder is God.
(5) Therefore, God exists.

haham amazing.

i`m a happier atheist or agnostic than i was wheni was an orthodox jew. read a translated tanach - not a christian bible, it`s botched translation. decide for yourself.

if god exists, i don`t like the way he functions.

one more thing...

(1) Ask Atheists what caused the Big Bang.
(2) Regardless of their answer, ask how they know this.
(3) Continue process until the Atheist admits he doesn`t know the answer to one of your questions.
(4) You win!
(5) Therefore, God exists.

lets twist that

1. Ask theists how the universe came to be.
2. Regardless of their answer, ask how they know this.
3. Continue process until the theist admits he doesn`t know the answer to one of your questions.
4. You win!
5. Therefore, God doesn’t exist.

Emh those people are totally wrong, they are "prooving" that we who dont believe in god are wrong, and use that as an evidence of his existance....

if you proove that we (Atheists) are wrong, you cant say "see, he DOES exist" just because were wrong. youre thinking if its not this sollution then its the opposite and thats not a proper scientifical evidence.

andi totally agree with Jcheats ;-)

*by the way what I meant by seeing "jupider up close" I meant in person. For all we know all our "scientific discoveries" could all be lies. It takes faith to believe in that too. Or I like how I once read: "It takes more faith to believe there is no God than there is a God." Claiming there is no point to life, that there is no reason we are here, there is no where to go after life, is a much more difficult thing to claim than the opposite.

Alright, I`m one of those people who thinks people are entitled to practice whatever religion they wish.

I have nothing against athiests, in fact I have friends who are athiest and my aunt and cousin are also athiest.

But I definitly have something against people who lump everyone who beleives in God to be "stupid". To put down anyone for their religion is very wrong. And I`m highly offended. I`d be even if you were putting down Chirsitians and I didn`t believe in God. That`s really ignorant of people to lump all beleivers in one catagory. Also, science is a leap of faith to. Have you seen Jupiter up close? Do you know for SURE that you`re made up of cells? No. Science takes just as much faith to believe in as Christianity. It sickens me that people compare god to the "bogey man". I`m not a mega-christian, and I dislike people who are. In fact I disagree with many points in the bible and I don`t believe in Hell. Come on guys, even my very athiest Aunt thinks it

Even though I dont beleave in creationism, I have my own little queer religion. I beleave he guides us, though not actually creating the universe. But, the chance of a single protein coming into form without any aid is 10 ^64 which is 10 with 64 0`s.

Ie:100 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 to one.

Now, without god to aid the first protein to start the big bang, nothing would exist.

And this whole argument that God exists because evolution is only a theory is ridiculous. Yes, it`s a theory - meaning that it changes and is updated when new evidence is discovered. And there is far more evidence to support the theory of evolution than there is to support creationism (or Intelligent Design if you want your religion to sound psuedo-scientific.)

An analogy -
Two people at a magic show:
"Wow! That magician just sawed that lady in half!"
"Yeah. There must be a good explanation. There`s probably a second lady`s legs in one half of the box, and the original lady`s head in the other half of the box. They`re probably both curled up in order to fit in each half of the box."
"Well, you can`t prove that - it`s just a theory."
"Okay, well how do YOU think he did it?"
"MAGIC!"
"Oh, that`s MUCH more plausible."

I think it`s pretty silly to poo-poo one thing as being disprovable, while believing in

cnlbell - regarding your statement:
"Because if they allowed themselves to believe there is a higher power that will hold them responsible for their actions, they would HAVE to do the right thing. Beilieving in nothing allows for no reason for personal restraint, morals or respect for others. Take what you will, use and abuse because there are no consequences."

I have to say - I don`t need God to have morals. Like I said in my post above, I strive to be a decent person without the threat of punishment in the afterlife.
Now, maybe most people need the idea of God getting mad at them to make them "behave," but I don`t.

1. Abstract reasoning; speculation: a decision based on experience rather than theory.
2. A belief or principle that guides action or assists comprehension or judgment: staked out the house on the theory that criminals usually return to the scene of the crime.
3. An assumption based on limited information or knowledge; a conjecture.

I believe in God, and I think he has a great sense of humor. I see it in my kids everyday.

Also, I don`t think people are afraid of the theory of evolution, I think its more plausible that people are afraid of God. Because if they allowed themselves to believe there is a higher power that will hold them responsible for their actions, they would HAVE to do the right thing. Beilieving in nothing allows for no reason for personal restraint, morals or respect for others. Take what you will, use and abuse because there are no consequences.

Personally, I feel more at peace knowing I am held to a higher standard. I am not perfect, but strive to be the best I can be.

I don`t come with any delusions that I will change anybody`s mind here. But it would be wise to notice that very few people here have a very good grasp on real Christianity. While I`ve heard some intelligent responses from both sides, I`ve heard some really embarassingly stupid ones as well.

Don`t think I didn`t see the humour in this. I chuckled quite a bit, especially on the Stevie Wonder one. But I see this sort of thing all the time. I`m told that atheists love a good debate, but most of what I see is a dumbing-down of Christianity and then mockery. That doesn`t sound like true argument to me.

"Not saying there isn`t a God, or that the Bible, even though it is mostly false, is wrong, but things only go wrong when people start taking things literally. Jesus was a saint, not a magical spirit who healed people from sickness and came back from the dead. He was a great man, a saviour for many, but in the sense that he "saved" them by showing them the light, and he was just a mortal man."

That`s a good quote for this argument.

The funny thing about the evolution arguement is that the theory of Evolution does not rule out a creator. It just rules out the bible(well, literal interpretation of it anyway).

Any god can just snap his fingers and make what he wants.. a real artist makes his creations slowly, over time, with gentle trimmings here, slight nudgings there, keeping off the canvas as much as possible.

An ice age here.. a plague there... a comet... a new mutation occasionally..

It`s like raising a Bansai tree. You don`t grow it all at once.. It`s a labor of a lifetime.

The experiments conducted by Urey and Miller presoppose exact materials and also `exact` conditions that are still argued about by geologists. Also, it leaves the problem of evolution from basic life forms, i.e. biochemical evolution problems, or more simply the problems of big leaps such as single circuitary blood system to double (no inbetween steps seem feisable). These problems increas when looking at things such as blood clotting mechanisms, which are very specific and require many seperate enzyms etc. to work that have no other use, so they would all have to `mutate` at the same time, probability like a needle in the universe etc.
Not saying they are wrong, just skeptical of the current arguments for evolution.

Male 23
JustMarc, I would love to hear you explain evolution. Not that I am saying it is wrong, just that most people have no idea what evolution is.
BTW Thomas Aquinas was smarter than everybody on this page by a long long long long way and he believed and argued for the existence of God, with a causation argument. Doing so doesn`t make you stupid.

I think that if there is one almighty "God", it`s wrong of us to think that we are so great that we can understand God. We are nothing in comparison. It`s like a person who has been blind all of his life knowing about color. We are just humans and we need to get over ourselves.

K ppl, I am not fully athiest(pretty much am though)and not fully against religion. But I have enough of each sides in me to show these two ignored
statements. I`ll start with the athiest 1. look at the enterpritations of molecules, then look at the solar system... see a similarity? they look ALOT the same! this goes to say that the universe could just be molecules on a freakishly large sofa. and the sofa could be on a planet that is part of a solar system that`s a molecule for something else!
all we know the universe could be an ever growing, ever shrinking rope of different sizes of solar systems, galaxys and universes!

Now for the religious theory.

The universe would more likely be like a giant piece of software made and proggrammed by god to be able to work on it`s own without constant supervision. which would explain why some prayers are answered and some arent! If you were god, would you want to sit there and make every plant and animal on every planet that support

Now don`t start on me.I am an atheist, I was baptised as a CoE Christian, but have found many reasons to turn my back on god. I`m not gonna slate anyone for their beliefs, and don`t expect anyone to slate me for mine, but answer me this:- If `God` is meant to be loving and compassionate, as we`re led to believe, why is there so much pain and suffering in the world. What God has allowed millions to die in the asian tsunamis, the Indian/Pakistani Earthquakes, through starvation etc. and what God gives man the capability to destroy itself. To become pedophiles, rapists, murderers, terrorists. Y`know, looking at the world today, I`d be more inclined to believe that Satans in power, not the man upstairs.

People are going to believe what they want. Some believe in God, some don`t believe anything, and some believe evil aliens possess us all (heh Scintologists are so silly). There is nothing anyone can do to change this, and we all just have to accept it. Quit cramming your beliefs down everyone else`s throats. If someone isn`t interested, move on. There have been experiments that have recreated the formation of the first cells. Urey and Miller (if I`m not mistaken on the names) in the 1950`s took water vapor, nitrogen, sulfur, ammonia, and methane gasses, which were all presence in abundance on primitive earth, applied electricity which represents lightning strikes and condensed the solution. The following concoction produces strains of ammino acids and carbohydrates. Then in the 1980`s or 1990`s, I don`t really remember, a guy named Rodney Fox (again not 100% sure of the name) recreated this experiment then heated the result and what was created was simple proto cells. Thus, he created live, thus, he is god. And dracula.

Why is it that it is okay to bash Christianity but if we bash any other religion we are considered bad people? I believe in Christ as my saviour. If you don`t I don`t feel differently about you so don`t feel differently about me.

Enohead, thanks for the reply. What I meant by no brainier is my decision to believe in a higher power and that He sent His son, Jesus Christ. By doing that, I am forgiven and will spend eternity in Heaven. Also, just want to mention that these are my beliefs, don`t want to offend anyone. You said something about critical thinking. In reply, I`m looking at the BIG picture beyond this life. I have questioned my faith a million times but, nothing else makes sense to me. For example, I don`t think it makes sense to look at a building and go, you know, I never met the builder so I don`t think the builder exists. Also, the part you said about using God as justification. I agree, that isn`t right. I don`t think anyone has the right to judge anyone else or think they can do whatever they want. What I have learned from reading the Bible is that we are supposed to love. So, what you said about judging others and treating others like dirt well, that isn`t a Christian trait.

Before Christ: gee I`m such a bad person God must be mad at me. So if I sacrifice this animal and pour his blood on a rock I will please God.
After Christ: Gee we are all such nasty people and God is angry with us. So if we kill God`s son and pour out his blood then God will be pleased and not smite us.
SO God likes blood ergo God is dracula.

"no its not because (if you beleive it) the bible isnt a fiction, its a historical nonfiction, so you are wrong."

Prove to me that the Bible isn`t fiction and I`ll change my beliefs, but so far I haven`t seen anything to convince me that the people who wrote the Bible based it on a true story. Especially since it was written over a long period of time by dozens of different people, many of whom probably never met eachother. And what about those people who lived to be like 900 years old - explain that and stay credible.

And upendy, if that`s the probability of a protein forming by itself what are the odds of a God spontaneously creating itself?

Oh how I love to argue the toss about stuff that doesn`t really matter...

The probablility of a protein forming by chance would be 10 ^64 (10 with 64 zeros) to 1.

That is: 100 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 to one.

That means its very unlikely that we just popped out of nowhere.

One thing I DO know for sure is that religious/spiritual matters and scientific matters are 2 distinct and separate issues.

Therefore, I do not believe that religious/spiritual leaders have the right to speak out definitively on scientific matters any more than scientific leaders have a right to definitively speak out on religious/spiritual matters.

@Moogle- It`s been a while since i read up on the specifics, but Scientology is a religion created by Sci Fi author L. Ron Hubbard. It`s based on the belief that an ebil alien warlord crashed a bunch of refugees on earth, into a volcano. Somehow the souls of the refugees survived and infested humans, so each of us has an alien soul inside. Unfortunately they aren`t nice alien souls(they never are) and they are responsible for all the jealosy, greed, violence, and any other undesirable trait humans possess. So this religion says it can free you from this possession and make you a normal human, in complete control of yourself.

Apparently its quite a racket, as the "treatments" are very pricey. Very trendy religion among the hollywood peeps. And another indication that they make entirely too much money for their own good. :D

Look it up on google.. It boggles the mind what some people believe.

This post is just by a Christian with a sense of humor. I`m suprised by the reaction from reading some of the comments. Personally, I`m a Christian. Am I offended when some non-christian calls me an idiot for believing in God? Hell no, I don`t have time for that. That is what`s wrong with this PC world. Everybody`s offended by everything. Boo hoo. Life is too short to be bickering over who believes in what. I don`t care if you`re a Christian, an Athiest, a Buddist, a Muslim (as long as you`re not blowing up people), or anything else. Who and what you believe is your business. You and I will be gone from this life before you know it and it won`t matter what we were offended by or what we said about anyone else`s religion. The truth is that nobody on this planet knows how the universe and life began. Religion is based on faith, and I have faith in God. Some people don`t and that`s okay with me. I`m not going to waste my time calling Athiests and the like idiots.Anyway, that`s my 2 cents.

You said it seems like a no brainer. That`s the problem. What you are losing is critical thinking. What you gain is the ability to just put everything off on an unseen power.
Don`t like something? God doesn`t either (i.e. homosexuality). Something good happen? You`re blessed by God. Something bad happen? It`s God`s will.
It`s just too easy. I prefer to look a little deeper for explanations about life.
That being said, I`m not anti-God. I believe that faith can give people`s lives meaning, if they need it. But when it also gives people the justification for doing f*cked-up things to each other, and treating other people like dirt, that`s where I draw the line.

I like Enohead`s argument :) another point would be that the people who founded Christianity etc also believed the world was flat. And I`m assuming no one here believes the Earth is flat. Don`t get me wrong, I`m not slagging off Christians. One of my friends is a Christian. Having different beliefs makes life more interesting. Afterall, how boring would it be if everyone just believed the same thing?
And by the way NoSoup4u, what do you mean by Scientologist? Is it a person who tries to prove that their belief is right through science, yeah? Just wondering.

I`m still scratching my head over that one.

But yeah.. religion is best kept to oneself. Trying to push your religion(or lack thereof) off on others is rude. And i don`t care if you are just following gods rules by spreading the faith and saving souls. Keep it to yourself. That goes for athiests as well.

Scientologists can try all they want to though.. Everyone laughs at you guys :D

Huh. A 13-year old girl said that God doesn`t exist? IT MUST BE TRUE! OMGOMGOMG!!!1!1!!!1!! I love how authoratitive some of us have decided to become.

But whatever. Believe, don`t believe. Go ahead, just don`t go around saying that you have some special fantastic knowledge that no one else possesses that ultimatley prooves God does not or does exist, becuase it`s not anything that anyone can really know except through faith -- which more or less tends to defy science and empericisim . . .

Unless you`re St. Augustine or something. But last time I checked, he was dead and so were all the other Scholastics. So, unless you`ve trained in theology and philosophy for years upon years, chances are you`re claiming that you "know" is incredibly, extremely, arrogant and making a lot of people very angy for no really good reason. Yay for that.

Also I am offended that you all choose to make fun of someone`s religion, Christianity or otherwise. But if you choose to be an athiest, then fine. Be an athiest. We were all CREATED (yes, I said created) with the ability to make descisions, and you have made yours. I personally chose Christianity. Now of course I`ll admit I`m not one of those Bible-totin` holier-than-thou Christians (frankly, they get on my nerves) and I`m not some religious fanatic. It`s my belief and I`m stickin` to it.

Religion is an antiquated attempt to explain the world around us and instill moral values into youth. For the latter reason, it`s still works, but for the former, anyone who actually believes it is ignorant and in need of education. There`s nothing wrong with believing in Santa Clause, if you`re a child. Humanity has progressed past childhood and is at the point where many things are understood. God`s were ancient man`s answer to questions like "What the hell is the lightning?" and "Why do my crops die?". Religion`s alright because for some, it keeps them out of trouble, but you shouldn`t take the words written in the Bible or other book as true Science.

Most Christians believe that God is eternal, that means, he has never been created, so there is no moment when one minute there was nothing and the next there was a god. Depending on how you look at this, it is either a neat way out of the question Who created God, or a bad argument. After all you can rephrase the question: if god exists and it is possible that he could not exist, why does he exist, when he could quite easily not exist.

the "necessary/unnecessary" one is worded wrong. the actual argument is:
1) It is either necessary that God exists or it is impossible that God exists.
(2) It`s not impossible that God exists.
Therefore, (3) it is necessary that God exists, from which it of course follows that (4) God does in fact exist.

However, this argument also has sufficient flaws, but is philosophically debatable.
