i`m a happier atheist or agnostic than i was wheni was an orthodox jew. read a translated tanach - not a christian bible, it`s botched translation. decide for yourself.
if god exists, i don`t like the way he functions.
(1) Ask Atheists what caused the Big Bang.(2) Regardless of their answer, ask how they know this.(3) Continue process until the Atheist admits he doesn`t know the answer to one of your questions.(4) You win!(5) Therefore, God exists.
lets twist that
1. Ask theists how the universe came to be. 2. Regardless of their answer, ask how they know this. 3. Continue process until the theist admits he doesn`t know the answer to one of your questions. 4. You win! 5. Therefore, God doesn’t exist.
if you proove that we (Atheists) are wrong, you cant say "see, he DOES exist" just because were wrong. youre thinking if its not this sollution then its the opposite and thats not a proper scientifical evidence.
andi totally agree with Jcheats ;-)
This is proof that God existsProof denies faithWithout faith, there is no godThere fore, there is no god
Now I know that this has to be a joke :-D
THE BIBLE: FICTION
thinks it`s wrong to slander christians, grow up already.
I have nothing against athiests, in fact I have friends who are athiest and my aunt and cousin are also athiest.
But I definitly have something against people who lump everyone who beleives in God to be "stupid". To put down anyone for their religion is very wrong. And I`m highly offended. I`d be even if you were putting down Chirsitians and I didn`t believe in God. That`s really ignorant of people to lump all beleivers in one catagory. Also, science is a leap of faith to. Have you seen Jupiter up close? Do you know for SURE that you`re made up of cells? No. Science takes just as much faith to believe in as Christianity. It sickens me that people compare god to the "bogey man". I`m not a mega-christian, and I dislike people who are. In fact I disagree with many points in the bible and I don`t believe in Hell. Come on guys, even my very athiest Aunt thinks it
Ie:100 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 to one.
Now, without god to aid the first protein to start the big bang, nothing would exist.
scientist: i dont know, I havent tasted your apple.
old dude: and neither have you tasted my Jesus.
yes... and if my grandmother had testicles she would be my grandfather. no point in this article.
An analogy - Two people at a magic show:"Wow! That magician just sawed that lady in half!""Yeah. There must be a good explanation. There`s probably a second lady`s legs in one half of the box, and the original lady`s head in the other half of the box. They`re probably both curled up in order to fit in each half of the box.""Well, you can`t prove that - it`s just a theory.""Okay, well how do YOU think he did it?""MAGIC!""Oh, that`s MUCH more plausible."
I think it`s pretty silly to poo-poo one thing as being disprovable, while believing in
I have to say - I don`t need God to have morals. Like I said in my post above, I strive to be a decent person without the threat of punishment in the afterlife. Now, maybe most people need the idea of God getting mad at them to make them "behave," but I don`t.
Also, I don`t think people are afraid of the theory of evolution, I think its more plausible that people are afraid of God. Because if they allowed themselves to believe there is a higher power that will hold them responsible for their actions, they would HAVE to do the right thing. Beilieving in nothing allows for no reason for personal restraint, morals or respect for others. Take what you will, use and abuse because there are no consequences.
Personally, I feel more at peace knowing I am held to a higher standard. I am not perfect, but strive to be the best I can be.
Don`t think I didn`t see the humour in this. I chuckled quite a bit, especially on the Stevie Wonder one. But I see this sort of thing all the time. I`m told that atheists love a good debate, but most of what I see is a dumbing-down of Christianity and then mockery. That doesn`t sound like true argument to me.
That`s a good quote for this argument.
No use arguing about things that will never change, but then again maybe you all love to argue. Either way this whole post was funny. :)
Any god can just snap his fingers and make what he wants.. a real artist makes his creations slowly, over time, with gentle trimmings here, slight nudgings there, keeping off the canvas as much as possible.
An ice age here.. a plague there... a comet... a new mutation occasionally..
It`s like raising a Bansai tree. You don`t grow it all at once.. It`s a labor of a lifetime.
and that`s my two cents.
Now for the religious theory.
The universe would more likely be like a giant piece of software made and proggrammed by god to be able to work on it`s own without constant supervision. which would explain why some prayers are answered and some arent! If you were god, would you want to sit there and make every plant and animal on every planet that support
^^^^^You don`t have to have a reason? hmmmm how close minded can christians be, guess I`ll never understand it and Manicstoive you make a good point I was gonna come off with something like that also
(a+b^n)/n = x? ok?
my own:Argument from DUH!ness: (1) god would leave no clear evidence of his existence and let us have intelligence enough to discover them if he were trying to test our faith.(2)bible says we are here to test our faith for the reasons of (read the bible da**it!)(3) the bible is god`s word(4) I have an I.Q. of 186 and I believe.(5) therefore God exists.
God bless! ^.^
no ones gonna listen to my reasoning and chances are just like everyone else im spouting biased crap BUT AT LEAST I ADMIT I DONT KNOW!
jimbodahobo- Do not make the mistake of calling christians "close-minded". That is a flaw that anyone can possess, not just people of faith.
This entire forum is a joke. People will not believe in God until there is proof he exists. Others will believe in God until there is proof that he does not exist. And you know what? Neither will believe any proof but the proof they wish to believe.
Until then, I don`t know.
Also, if you`re still trying to prove the other side wrong on the comment board, you`re just as ignorant as the one you are calling dumb. Athiests, Christians, and anyone else alike.
Anyways...I found the `proofs` on the link funny before I lost my patience. If some people are insulted by them, lighten up, I don`t think they were ment to be serious in any way.
yeah, thats right.
yeah i totally agree. we dont need to have a reason to believe, we just DO.
"no its not because (if you beleive it) the bible isnt a fiction, its a historical nonfiction, so you are wrong."
Prove to me that the Bible isn`t fiction and I`ll change my beliefs, but so far I haven`t seen anything to convince me that the people who wrote the Bible based it on a true story. Especially since it was written over a long period of time by dozens of different people, many of whom probably never met eachother. And what about those people who lived to be like 900 years old - explain that and stay credible.
And upendy, if that`s the probability of a protein forming by itself what are the odds of a God spontaneously creating itself?
Oh how I love to argue the toss about stuff that doesn`t really matter...
Best case scenario believers make me cringe. :(
That is: 100 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 to one.
That means its very unlikely that we just popped out of nowhere.
God Bless Y`all
Therefore, I do not believe that religious/spiritual leaders have the right to speak out definitively on scientific matters any more than scientific leaders have a right to definitively speak out on religious/spiritual matters.
Apparently its quite a racket, as the "treatments" are very pricey. Very trendy religion among the hollywood peeps. And another indication that they make entirely too much money for their own good. :D
Look it up on google.. It boggles the mind what some people believe.
lol! he wet the bed!!
Just watch last weeks episode of South Park...it explains it better than I can!!!
I`m still scratching my head over that one.
But yeah.. religion is best kept to oneself. Trying to push your religion(or lack thereof) off on others is rude. And i don`t care if you are just following gods rules by spreading the faith and saving souls. Keep it to yourself. That goes for athiests as well.
Scientologists can try all they want to though.. Everyone laughs at you guys :D
But whatever. Believe, don`t believe. Go ahead, just don`t go around saying that you have some special fantastic knowledge that no one else possesses that ultimatley prooves God does not or does exist, becuase it`s not anything that anyone can really know except through faith -- which more or less tends to defy science and empericisim . . .
Unless you`re St. Augustine or something. But last time I checked, he was dead and so were all the other Scholastics. So, unless you`ve trained in theology and philosophy for years upon years, chances are you`re claiming that you "know" is incredibly, extremely, arrogant and making a lot of people very angy for no really good reason. Yay for that.
We`re not saying Christians are stupid intelligence-wise...stupid because they believe some bullpoo. I personally believe there is no God. I will respect someone`s beliefs if he or she will respect mine. I would never hate someone for believing in God and I will never treat anyone differently because he/she believes in God. My roommate is a strong believer in God and she is one of my best friends. Just so you know.
I understand this is a joke...it is only THAT obvious...we`re all going to die eventually...so that does not prove God exisits...he doesn`t anyway...WHAHAHAHAHAHA...
also God is a metaphor for things not yet understood. Tesla and Einstein have come close.
Also I am offended that you all choose to make fun of someone`s religion, Christianity or otherwise. But if you choose to be an athiest, then fine. Be an athiest. We were all CREATED (yes, I said created) with the ability to make descisions, and you have made yours. I personally chose Christianity. Now of course I`ll admit I`m not one of those Bible-totin` holier-than-thou Christians (frankly, they get on my nerves) and I`m not some religious fanatic. It`s my belief and I`m stickin` to it.
Also, a note to all you Christians telling the non-believers to "screw themselves" and stuff like that, you aren`t representing our faith very well.
I`ll pray for you all.
I wonder what these folks would think of that:
Thomas AquinasSt. AugustineC.S. LewisMichael FaradayCardinal Henry NewmanGalileoJRR TolkienGreg WolfeBrett LottLeo TolstoySoren KierkegaardJohn DonneJohn Milton
Read *all* of these people and then attempt to call Christians stupid.
But how can God have been here forever? Isn`t forever impossible?
The human mind is incapable of visualizing forever, and infinity.
And I have an actual question of my own, for anybody out there willingly to answer:I know people say you can`t prove there`s a God, but in the spectrum of electronic waves (or something, I have no idea o_O) isn`t there a side of this spectrum where wavelengths exist but we can`t see them? I don`t really know what I`m talking about.... somebody help me. @[email protected] lol
I used to believe in God but came to my own conclusion that he just doesn`t exist and have been a lot happier ever since. The way I see it our existence is a complete scientific fluke and we should feel lucky becaues of that.
Yes I believe in God.
I cannot believe otherwise and I do not wish to believe otherwise.
Many of you sound bitter, angry and sad. I feel sorry for you.
At least I am happy in my life.
(sry if i offended anyone i tend to do that alot with almost everything i say but ya if i offended you im really sorry)
I liked that one!
But yeah cue another IAB argument over something neither side can prove... party on.
this one is my favorite
Well, I`m convinced.
and i`m astonished that people still think that this guy is trying to present valid arguments. he`s not. once again, he`s making fun of how most fundamentalist christians argue their case. and sadly, he`s right.
The ajikan argument.(1)Only stupid people think god exists(2)Therefore he exists only for them
(2,3)dont argue with this, I have absolute power in this matther, and will declare myself the winner
ARGUMENT FROM HALF A WING(1) Half of a wing is useless!(2) Therefore, God exists.
ibigfire...actually, he`d probably love it if you tore apart his article. Atheists enjoy a good debate.
However, this argument also has sufficient flaws, but is philosophically debatable.
Oh wow, just came back from reading the "Why Atheism?" website he links. He`s got a lot of crap to say about something he obviously hasn`t studied enough of. Would anybody be interested if I did my best (I`m just finishing my first year of college, so don`t expect anything fancy, just a layman`s attempt) to tear apart the "Why Atheism?" article?
I find him completely un-necessary! :P
