It`s a nice feature but the `clone-wars` ensue.

yeah, the yahoo maps are nice, but I like the google ones too. I think some of the maps come from the same maps TeleAtlas provides for my GPS

It`s exactly the same. all the maps come from the same source, they`re using the same data. albeit slight older, cheaper data.

I think in a couple years we`ll have real time satellite maps of the country. . .you`ll be able to zoom in on a specific place and see it in real time views.

of course that would suck on a cloudy day

Its signifigantly slower than google maps, not to mention no satelite, and no overlay mode, also google maps use more of the screen. The stupid zoom thing just looks bad.

First of all, its just a cheap google ripoff.

Second..."I think in a couple years we`ll have real time satellite maps of the country. . .you`ll be able to zoom in on a specific place and see it in real time views. " if they do that, some one will sue them for invasion of privacy and get it shut down.

Not bad, but if they can get satellite images that are better than google`s then i`ll be impressed. and just so u people know it`s impossible with any currently conceivable technology to have live satellite imaging. thats the stuff of the movies. satellites orbit the earth. they`re not stationary. they`re moving at many meters per second and therefore can`t hover over one particular spot to give live images. multiple satellites might be able to acheive almost live images, but there`s no way those will ever be availble to the public.

Well realtime sattelite could be possible someday, nobody couldve imagined computers 300 years ago yet here they are. Though Im sure thered be a 1 hour or so "lag" for privacy reasons.

Y`know, I really get annoyed when the pseudo-web nerd crowd gets all giddy over Google.

Google maps is just a rip off of MapQuest (with an admittetly slightly better search function) and TerraServer. TerraServer has been around many, many years before Google Maps, and provides a sattelite imagery service with no watermark at a much better resolution.

In fact, even MapQuest had areal images many moons before Google came out with their maps, but scrapped them for some unknown reason.

I`m just saying that Yahoo maps is just as much of a rip as Google maps was. Quit acting like Google`s some sort of a god-like entity who is the epicenter of all original ideas.

They could just allow it to zoom in on public places...
